I got into your content by watching the comedy videos, and this video is perfect because I’m new to commander and I wanted to build a kamigawa deck, thanks bro!
Hinata looks scary good at removal, By Force and Heliod's Intervention are amazing. I don't know if they'd fit in the deck, but in general there's also smaller spells to consider: Traitorous Greed isn't a big crazy spell, but it normally costs 2R, but refunds 2 mana of 1 color, with Hinata, you gain control of an opponent's creature for the turn and it's basically free since it costs one less to cast. Unwind, Snap and Rewind, were previously free since they let you untap the lands you used to cast them, but now they actually let you untap an extra land they didn't cost to tap since they cost 1 less.
Love the deck. Hate playing against Hinata haha. Such a great commander. Great video, but is suspect you just wanted to show off all those bling'd out cars 😉 As an aside, your voice is rather soothing to listen too. Great commentary on a deck you can tell you care about. Thanks for balancing the comedy with great videos like this.
I built my hinata deck as a jeskai blink deck and use semesters end, eerie interlude, this azorious x spell I can’t remember the name of, etc as protection for 1-2 mana and get mass triggers at the same time. Makes it easy to protect the board commitment of blink decks. Pretty much everything in the deck is a 2/2 so I can tutor out combo pieces with recruiters. It’s super fun to play because at some times it feels like toolbox. It’s so unbelievably fun to play. With the ability and all the blink triggers it has combos I didn’t realize every time I play it and I’m having so much fun learning ways my deck works that I didn’t even realize through experience playing it. Hinata is one of my favorite commander decks for that reason.
Basically a good way to think of crackle with power is it costs 2x instead of 3x, as the target reduces the cost. so it becomes (x)(x)(r)(r) deal 5x damage to x targets (and x targets reduces the cost by x, and 3x - x = 2x).
Hi I am still confused how it would remove an (x)? Would multiple targets say 3 just remove all the (x)'s? meaning Crackle would only cost (r)(r) for lethal? Or is Hinata essentially reducing (1)(1)(1) for each target? Then if there are only 3 valid targets the cost is reduced by (3)(3)(3)? A friend told me Hinata is only reducing (1)(x)(x) meaning the cost would be (0(1)(1)(r)(r) to do 5*1(5)dmg then just add +1 to each X for more damage. Assuming its only 1 target available (4)(5)(5)(r)(r) 5*5(25)dmg?
Hey Dave I love your content and I think I'd be cool to see Isshin next I have been building it myself and would love some advice. Thanks for the fantastic videos as always!👍
@@mtgmonkey1 It's more just that I tend to only do one commander deck per set, since I actually build the deck in real life. Doing more than that could get expensive... So for this set I've already done Hinata. I do think Isshin is a pretty interesting commander, though!
@@8thPlaceDave if you can always have alternatives to your commander. if you have that card it doesn't matter as much if someone plays something like dranith magistrate.
Your channel was recommended, and I really liked the deck tech. There are a couple of cards that I would probably add: Fireball (same thing as Comet Storm but for one less mana) and Willbreaker. Willbreaker would be a fun way to steal all of your opponents creatures with Fireball or Comet Storm for one or two red mana. Be sure to protect Willbreaker to he doesn't get removed.
No Deekah or Metallurgic Summonings...? With the massive mana value that some of these X spells will get to, those cards can create game-winning monsters with ease.
i play it close the same way, but i think the locust god is not rly matching into it, you can try out Scholar of the Ages instead :) so you have even a come into play trigger and get your funny spells back :)
"Big splashy spells" - Removal "Removal" - Removal Is this deck capable of doing anything in case opponents do collectively decide not to play anything but lands for 10 turns?
im playing this deck in a 100/150$ budget tourny pretty much the same deck... beside a few cards, here and there, land base is WAY cheaper.lol...... CRACKLE w/ Power is like my GAME winner... its insane..... its just too good....almost won game 1 ... crackle with power , hinata out ..for 12..lol..i didnt know i could target myself for the extra 1 to target another player... U sure about that?? u said with crackle that the 3 Xs (xxxRR) the first x is pretty much 4 ...or how many players are in play.. but if i use myself as a target... dont i target myself with the damage??or i can choose the targets, even if i use myself as 1....?mhh im confused .
How do you have all these insane full art foils but a regular old $25 smothering tithe didn't make it in. Just kidding, thanks for some cool updates to the deck. Can't wait to play it!
Because when I made this deck, Smothering Tithe hadn't yet been reprinted in Double Master 2022, and I felt like it was overdue for a reprint so I didn't want to get one at the time. Now I've got one I can put in here ;)
That was one I had considered. I think Talrand would work better in a spellslinger deck where you cast a bunch of small spells. It could be good here too, though!
@@8thPlaceDave ya I was gonna say Shark Typhoon but I seen a couple other people had already suggested it. I really like this deck build though, inspired me to make my Jeskai deck. Working on making a Kykar token deck, Talrand will definitely do work in there.
Good video, but why wouldn't Hinata work with Cyclonic's overload? Overload reminder says "You may *cast* this spell for it's overload cost" and then Hinata says "Spells you *cast* cost 1 less". Wouldn't Cyclonic's overload only cost 1 blue if there was 6+ non land permanents opponents controlled?
Thanks! It's because Hinata cares about the number of targets in order to discount a spell. If you overload a cyclonic rift it has 0 targets, so it gets no discount.
I think as long as it's not powered up too much it should be fine. I purposely decided to not play any infinite combos or free counterspells, and only a little bit of expensive fast mana. I feel like this way the deck can work well and still be fun to play or play against.
It's gonna get hated on, once people realize it's strength. It'll lock people out if you get the right board-state. This video isn't emphasizing the ability to flicker creatures, as an example. Archeomancer and ghostly flicker is a cheap infinite combo.

Most of the time people just say how my voice is monotonous or robotic, so soothing is a nice change.

Oui c'est bien ca :)
I have a few soulfire Grand Masters. Might have to dig them out!
I feel like it is a very underrated card!
Like your list, one card I would include is battlefield thaumaturge which has a similar effect as hinata (only for creature targets).
Ah yeah, that is one I had considered. I ended up not including it because it seemed a little bit redundant with Hinata. Does it work well?

There is a huge difference between Comet Storm and Fireball - Storm deals X to each, fireball deals X total

Have you thought about setting up a discord server to play with viewers or have viewer decks featured? Also patreon. I would gladly join a patreon

I've been looking to build this commander, but I was worried it would be too salty. How much do people dislike this commander showing up at the table?

Bad card design! Reduction should only work when you target your own cards. Then it would be a nice Heroic keyword commander.
honestly expexting this guy to get banned. shame but its just soo good
NO ONE wants to play vs Hinata =)
