- I'm heading for Foxton Locks at the northern end of the Leicester Line Summit of the Grand Union Canal, making short cruises each day. I leave my mooring at Bridge 25 and chat to boaters, as I make my way along.

Thank you Alan I did enjoy this short but delightful episode of spring on the Grand Union Canal. I get real pleasure watching you get pleasure from Cruising those familiar sights. All the best. Stephen
Hi Stephen, I’m glad you enjoyed this episode, just a short leisurely cruise, one of several still to come. Take care.
Always a pleasure Alan, to sit with you as you go along on your travels on a part of many canal or water ways... Which ever tickles your fancy. Around our wonderful country side. Admiring the views as always, come rain or shine, or even that touch of early morning dew that lays on top of the land and water. I love it all. 🖖Keep well and enjoy what you have. Peace.
That’s very good of you to say, I try and give the viewer the impression they’re on the boat with me sharing my travels. All the best, take care 🤠
What a lovely area you picked. We have a lot of lakes and large rivers. Its nice to talk to the nice boats as they travel by. Thats building boater community. Very relaxing Alen, and Yummy Strawberries ,Take care Cheers Alen🖐🍓🍓🧀🫖☕
Thank you Tammy, so glad you enjoyed watching, I do like to engage with other canal users, boaters, walkers etc. All the best to you and Glen 🤠👍
So good to see that you haven't forsaken the cheese-topped rolls!
I couldn’t give up my cheese topped rolls!
Hi Alan, another thoroughly enjoyable video. Your photography really captured the essence of the beautiful area. With a good chat to top it off. Graham and Tim 🙂 🐕
Hi Graham and Tim. Many thanks for your appreciation, I’m glad you enjoyed this episode, all the best 🤠
Thanks Alan, for taking us along on a beautiful cruise, cheese top rolls then strawberries and cream, luxury (sounds like my diet). Take care and all the best. Stevie
Thanks Stevie. I have simple tastes in food but can’t go wrong with these items. Hope you’re keeping well, all the best, keep safe.

Thank you so much Ginger, very kind of you to say. Best wishes for a lovely weekend Alan and Sally.
Hi Alan. That was a very nice cruise nice over head shots & excellent camera work while boating.
Take care & have a great evening.
Thank you Bob, very kind of you to say. All the best, have a lovely weekend.
Afternoon Alan, what a lovely gentle cruise...really takes me back to our days on the boat and makes me seriously think about whether we should throw caution to the wind and treat ourselves to another boat whilst we're fit and able to enjoy it. Loving the new camera angles...! Many thanks for sharing...🍷🍷
Evening Steve, glad you enjoyed watching. I would say if you’re able to do it, go for it. I’m trying different things with the cameras, I worry it all gets a bit samey after a while. Have a great weekend 🥂
Hi Alan another beautiful cruise, your smiling face is a joy. I to was sat eating a bowl of English strawberries when you were eating yous, great choice. Jae a great week x😊

Thanks very much Lee, all the best, take care, Alan and Sally.
Hi Alan, I always enjoy your cruising vlogs. The weather has been, and is so changeable hasn't it. The drone shots are really good in these vlogs. Well done xx
Hi Jenny, thanks for your comment, kind of you to say. It’s been quite chilly today. There’s no doubt the drone does add another dimension. Hope you’re enjoying your holiday, assuming you’re still away. Best wishes xx
Hi Alan, yes we are away until Wednesday. The weather has spoilt it unfortunately, and I'm having huge problems with my family at the moment. I'm very down, heart is on the floor! xx
@@jennybailey6842I’m very sorry to hear that and hope matters soon improve for you xx
Lovely for you to be out on the cut with the weather bright and pleasant. It all looks lovely and peaceful, not too busy with boat traffic. You pick some really nice mooring spots too. I need to take a leaf out of your book when I hire next. Take it a bit slower and moor up earlier so we have more time to relax 👍 take care and enjoy your week Alan
Hi Paul thanks for your lovely comment. It wasn't too busy when I was out and about, some days were very quiet but the weather did change for the worse. When I'm crusing or finished for the day, it's all go, the data downloading and battery recharging takes a long time and I'm always editing to keep on top of it. Time to relax sounds wonderful. All the best, will I see you at the Boat Show?
@@MyNarrowboatVenture oh yes I should have picked up on the re charging and editing as you spoke about it in the vlog 😂 no rest for the wicked 😄 I thought I was able to come to Crick on the Monday but I’ve been allocated a shift at work, this is very annoying as they usually fill it with volunteers. Obviously not enough people opted to work. Have a great time, I will have to try again next year
@@paulturner7837That’s a great shame, very disappointing for you. I’m looking forward to the show, as it’s good to meet up with viewers.
England is absolutely beautiful. Thank you for sharing with us. I am living my England life through you. I would love to visit.
It’s my pleasure to share, and I’m glad you get enjoyment from watching. Perhaps one day you’ll have the chance to visit. All the best, take care.
Super drone shots... Should see you on the Levels on Sunday. Bringing some family... bob and helen.
Thank you both, see you on Sunday. Sally and I came down this afternoon. Cheers
Hello Alan mick from Hull really enjoyed this episode hope you are very well and I will look forward to your next episode 😊😊😊

Thanks for your belated birthday wishes, I’m shocked, as well, at being 70, doesn’t seem right somehow! Thanks also for supporting the channel, I’m glad you like the new format. All the best to you in Skeggie!
Hi Alan hope your well, Sharon and i have spent a few hours opposite where you was moored watched the young playing the Big white boat Chrisden you passed makes chimneys to measure from Crick ours is still going strong👍👍
Hi Sharon and Dave. I didn’t realise Chrisden made chimneys, I believe he is a viewer of the channel. Hope you’re both keeping well 🤠
Another great VP g Alan, thank you! Maybe you could do a vlog on how you do you vlogs
Thank you so much. I have touched on that subject before but it is in the back of my mind to do it again.
I'm tucking in to strawberries and cream myself right now. Yummy. 🍓🍓🍓👍
Lucky you Karen, I’ve only got grapes on the go 🍇
Home Turf Videos are always a pleasure to watch 🙂
Very much so, thank you👍
Hi Alan really enjoying your video's, Impressed with the drone footage and wondered what model you have, as i am thinking of purchasing my first ever drone at 76 years old lol, i know you lost yours not so long ago and was really pleased to hear that you managed to retrieve it, keep on boating , keep on filming, but most of all keep well, Malc from Nova Scotia.
Hi Malc thanks for your great comment. My drone is a DJI Mini 2 and I believe no longer available. There is a Mini 2 SE but it’s a lesser model. And obviously later models. I expect you’d get some lovely shots where you are. Thanks for your support, all the best and take care.
@@MyNarrowboatVenture Thanks for your super quick reply Alan, and actually i had been fancying a dji mini 2 for it's compact ability and 4k video, plus i know a guy that is selling an almost new one so i may go take a look at that, thanks so much again Alan very much appreciated.
@@malcolm4200Thanks for your reply. I’ve been impressed with my drone, so I don’t think you’ll be disappointed. Up, down, forward and reverse, side to side controls are straightforward. Enjoy!
Enjoyed the cruise
Many thanks Hugh.
Greetings from north Dartmoor, hotel booked and tickets ordered so hopefully I'll see you to speak to next weekend!!
Greetings Bill, Sally and I look forward to meeting you at the Show.
@@MyNarrowboatVenture Alan, can I pick your brain please!! When you come to the west country which route do you use? I've looked at M5/42/40 but it goes a long way up. I wondered about Bristol/Swindon/Oxford and across, any advice?
@@billsavage807 Hi Bill. The route varies every time. The most straightforward is M1 to M6 to M42 to M5. I use the Waze App for my Satnav. That will do all sorts of variations on this route including A46 off the M6. Or at Junc 9 M5 Tewkesbury on the return journey. When I used to go to Northampton from the West Country I would do M5, M4, Swindon, Oxford. I never go that way now. There are so many different options but I tend to follow the shortest timed route from Waze. I hope that helps.
@@MyNarrowboatVenture thanks for that Alan, I haven’t got a satnav I normally use my wife with a map😂 Unfortunately I’m coming on my own this time so I’ll toss a coin and see how it goes!!
@@billsavage807 Whatever you decide, have a good trip. Cheers
Hi Alan, are you going to be doing one of your very timely and excellent summaries of the Crick show this year?
That’s kind of you to say. I will indeed be doing that, how quickly I’ll get it out, I can’t say!
Hi Alan You are eating strawberrys and cream without Sally....has she left you on your own again ?.
Hi Roger, Sally was at her caravan with her Dad, eating peaches and cream. I missed out on that!
What strikes me Alan is the poor condition of the canals, overgrown everywhere, towpaths that are unusable for months of the year, muddy & no doubt polluted water etc etc.
Much of that is unavoidable, towpaths are often of grass, so will get muddy in the rain. There are towpath task forces of volunteers that do the best they can to maintain towpaths. Overgrown areas get cut back infrequently because of the work involved, availability of labour, much of which is voluntary, availability of boats and crew, it’s not easy to maintain 2000 miles of canal with a high reliance of volunteers.
@@MyNarrowboatVenture Understand Alan but is that why those in charge pushed the responsibility onto the CRT (with very highly paid people running it) who then lean on volunteers to do all their unpaid work for them. Yet charge those using the system ever more each year to fund those inflated incomes & no doubt pensions ?
@@gegwen7440There is a high reliance on volunteers, which many feel isn’t right. The whole situation is a conundrum. The CRT has a difficult task to maintain the canal network, no 2 locks are the same, there are reservoirs and complex infrastructure to be looked after. In this country, much of our national heritage is in the hands of unpaid dedicated bands of volunteers who receive no financial support. That can’t be right! But that’s how it is.
