All valid points here. I'm still iffy on pushing pins in inspection to suit whichever start is best (besides that I do like the reg changes). It's too late to change now, but I feel like that should've been worded to say "All pins must start either up or down, and can be pushed back if the competitor pushes them during inspection". Still the issue for me is that it's the only event where it's explicitly stated in the regs that the judge has to touch the puzzle to verify it's solved. So in theory it can lead to some discrepancy issues if there's no video evidence of the judge accidentally making a move when checking to see if it's solved.
I practiced clock a lot to get a sub-13 official average and I found out it was really fun :) defo gonna fully commit to no-flip once I get my 5x5 and Megaminx averages down
Clock has become my 2nd favorite event, but I started practicing it after my first competition in April. If I had actually practiced, I would be 3rd in my state
For me it was how out of left feild it was. The WRC said they talked to some top clockers, and then a bunch of top clockers came out and said they heard nothing about that.
@@notmecubes Practically everything besides Clock's negative reputation pre-7 simul is ignored even though there are many interesting stories, and the creation of 7 simul is glossed over even though it was the most important event in this video. People's respect for Clock was increasing before 7 simul. People's gripes with hardware were addressed with magnetic Clocks and then practically resolved with the QiYi Clock. Additionally, my use of Sheerin in comp helped people see that Clock could require more thinking and could be optimized further. Lanshi Zhang first invented 7 simul in 2021 independently. He posted on a random Chinese forum about it, posted some videos on Bilibili about it, and used a variation in comp that required him to memorize two numbers and flip. Neither I, Tommy, nor Benjamin Paul have ever talked to this dude. We only found out about his posts after we developed 7 simul independently. Your video implies we worked together and misses the opportunity for a twist to explain how we came up with a method that had already been created without our knowledge. Throughout the whole video, your storytelling is very linear ("and then this happened.... and then this...."). As a viewer, it is much more interesting to be taken down twists and turns, even if it requires you to talk about stuff out of sequential order ("this happened..... HOWEVER..... BUT..... THEREFORE....."). No-flip had long been an idea, until Sebastian Pino Castillo decided to use it in his world record average. HOWEVER, he was cheating and memorized the solutions to his easy scrambles before hand!!! A few years later, Matthew Sheerin made a forum post and a video going over a no-flip method he made (Sheerin). For years, nobody did anything with this (some Australian cubers like Conan were aware of it but didn't do much with it). However, without anyone's knowledge, I was grinding Sheerin during quarantine and emerged a world class solver. There's an interesting story surrounding the US NAR. I won't get into it because this comment is already long. With Sheerin proven in competition, I began looking for ways to 1 look Clock and optimize it further. I came up with my own calculations to start 1 looking and also developed a way to solve the Clock with 6 simul moves and 2 standard moves (in contrast to the typical 5 simul moves and 4 standard moves). This led to thinking that maybe solving the Clock in just 7 simul moves would be possible, and bpaul made a program that generated a bunch of pin sets that did just this. I identified a good pin set from this and introduced Tommy to 7 simul. I could point out more inaccuracies, things you left out, and unnecessary inclusions, but I think you get my point. I love Summoning Salt, the speedrunning RUclipsr, and your content has a lot of similarities with his early content. You seem to have a talent for making video essays. However, your content is a little rough around the edges. I suggest that for future videos you reach out to people who might be more knowledgeable to not only get more story points but also make sure you aren't getting stuff wrong. Everyone depicted in this video is passionate, approachable, and would be willing to provide more information and help if you asked.

The QiYi clock being released was hugelty significant too! It was strange how even in 2019/2020 you had to mod yours to be anywhere decent
I was a bit put off by the pin regulation till I got my clock and its so easy to accidently push the pins I can see why this is a good rule to have.

Clock is a fun event. 7 Simul was such a great help for a slow tps solver like me to get decent at Clock.💯 Great vid!

the fact that top 100 average went from sub 6 to sub 4.4 avg in not even a year is absolutely crazy, i remember being like er40 with a 5.8 avg lmao
In Mid 2022 4.6 avg was top10
Now hou have to be sub 4 to be wr100 lol
Oh well yea basically sub 4, wr100 rn is 4.08
