Great vid. I find it leads to more Qs and conundrums, at least for me! There’s no known quanta of time
There’s no known quanta of gravity
    This can’t be a coincidence.
This is an aspect of the search for quantum gravity to make quantum mechanics and general relativity compatible.
    Yet, gravitational fields impact time.
Yet, objects traveling at speed (acting as a gravitational field?) experience time differently relative to a stationary observer. Does that not demonstrate that gravity itself is not simply the effects on spacetime? Or, are they acting via different mechanisms? Does this support time and gravity as emergent?
Some theories suggest a graviton exists, but gravity is so weak that detection of a graviton is almost impossible. Gravitons, if they exist, will be both weak and very rare.
Just some of the thoughts and Qs that I think about.

i have a graduate degree from a good school but not in physics or cosmology. however, i have taken up those two areas of study as a "hobby." as to the existence of time, i had an odd experience recently. i have been down with a cold and flu and have been confined to bed with all the normal symptoms of those exceptional ailments. one night i awoke from a dream. in that dream, i was in a very large open warehouse room. there were not a lot of items in this huge space, just me sitting in a chair and various small tables some distance away from me in the dim light. as i was sitting in the chair, a thought entered my mind that i was existing in my own reality in that chair. off in the distance i could make out shapes and tables but i knew they were just "there" - they were not experiencing any changes or movement or "existence" as i was in my chair. i realized that there was no "time" for these other objects. whatever had been their state "in the past" was the same state they were existing in "the present" and that their existence would not change "in the future." "time" was not a concept that affected their reality. it seems to me that time is only relevant to living things on this earth. living things are born, and live for some period of "time" and then they pass away out of existence. but just because living things go through this cycle in no means requires that everything else in the universe needs to go through some "birth, life, death" cycle. what this would mean for the reality outside of "human reality" is that the past, present, and future all exist at the same time. try my thought experiment. imagine you are in a dimly lit large warehouse with a few items visible around. then think about what is going on in the space you are occupying and then "suspend" that thought and imagine the reality around all the other objects in the room if nothing at all is happening to the other objects. the universe and the quantum world may simply be a "reality" that is just "going on all the time." large space and quantum space are just active places where events are occurring but not in a "linear" manner but just in a "random" manner. humans exist in a linear reality but "our reality" is not the ONLY "reality."

@@eharris6347 if matter can neither be created nor destroyed, but only changed in structure, all things in the universe other than living things on Earth simply "exist" in one form or another. stars are born, grow, exist, and then "die" but their essential energy is preserved and passed on to another form. living things have a special reality when they are "alive." as a living thing experiences a gradual degradation of structure and "health", the passage of "time" seems to be discernable. but there is no reason why the idea of "time" should apply to all things in the universe.

Time could simply be our measurement of the duration between events.
A mile doesn’t exist in its own right does it? It is simply a measurement between two points. Time could be seen in this way.
The illusion we have created of time could simply be because we are aware of our own life span. This has become the background against which we measure the duration of anything.

This is the most succinct and logical explanation of time as we understand. Even the twin paradox is somewhat resolved. Time ticks slower closer to a gravitational field, so the satellites clocks thus tick faster, however, an accelerated body away from the Earth based on the equivalence principle means that relative to the observer on earth, the accelerated object should perceive personal time ticking slower. 😅

I made an experiment: at 8:00, the water was in liquid form, and at 12:00, it was frozen. If time is not real, there is no past. So the water state in 8:00, which is in natural form, does not exist because it was in the past? The frozen state of the water, which in the present is real and really matters? who made the ICE FROZEN???

The water may appear to be "frozen" to you but it is still a liquid. The photograph doesn't appear to be moving, but a photograph of water is not actually water. Still water may be liquid and frozen water-- ice-- does move, slowly, as do flowing glaciers.

I love these theoretical discussions. Yet for all the discussion of quantum mechanics, theories of spacetime and block time structures, life goes on on this blue marble spinning in an almost perfect vacuum. People awake each day to perform their activities and the aged, infirm and others physical bodies wither and decompose. So I ask you, what difference does it make if you watch your child graduate from college if all the theoretical constructs of time have no actual bearing on your child's dedication and effort to complete their goal of graduating?
As no one ever has attempted to travel close to the speed of light and then returned to earth to see if it had reversed aging, we only think it may be so. As with so much of science on this level it asks questions and creates suppositions which are just a guess or perhaps wishful thinking.

Yesterday is real; it is happening. I remember it. I wrote a poem yesterday. In the present moment, I read it.

When you remember a past event you do so in the present, which is the only time when anything actually happens. The act of remembering the past and the act of anticipating the future always happen in the present. Now is the only moment that is "real"-- memories are thoughts and thoughts only happen in the present. Time is like the wake of a boat on which you are riding, it shows you where you've been but it emanates from where you are now.

You see the moon as it was a second and a half ago,. the sun is 8 minutes ago, Jupiter is 30 to 50 minutes ago, the nearest star is 4 years ago, the Andromeda galaxy in 2 million years ago and the furthest galaxies we can see are 13 billion years ago. Humans did not create the idea of time keeping mechanisms. The universe did. Just by referencing farming seasons, lunar months and stellar years, you prove universal timekeepers.
Time cannot be the fourth dimension because it makes the first three dimensions possible, which also makes it real. Time is the order of causation. Time could not exist if the universe were instantaneous. The universe would have ended the instant it started.
The difference in the order of events create all the temporal effects and differences in reference frames we see. So time is very real. Just because it is different for different observers does not make it unreal.
Backwards time has never been observe because it cannot happen.
I don't really like the term "observer" in regard to quantum physics because it is actually inputting energy into the system in order to make a measurement. It is not at all passive, the way the word "observer" implies.

The concept of time is just that and nothing else. Time is nothing more than an instrument of measurement. Like a thermometer. Water to ice experiment is not a result nor an effect of time. The continual release or removal of heat affects the molecular structure of matter not time. Time is the recorded measurement of how long that process took place. The twins theory is false because it makes no difference how fast we travel we are organic and still degrade at the same rate so my twin would not be younger returning from near light speed. In order for my twin to be younger he would have to travel fast enough to return before he left. An impossibility. Clocks at higher and lower altitudes change because they are physical mechanical devices affected by gravity but regardless of what altitude you're at you will still age at the same rate. So time in and of itself only exists to us, not as much to measure but more as a means of tracking, i.e. when to plant crops, when to harvest them. When to perform a task or event. It makes no difference whether I live on Earth or Jupiter, whether there are 24 hours in a day or 96, I'm still going to age or degrade at the same rate. I'll just have more birthdays on Earth.

Time does not exist, what exists is our brain that memorizes the before, the now and the after by a scale of beginning, middle and end. If you ask a stone about time it doesn't know, if you ask a tree it says it doesn't exist. But the brain memorizes the before, now and after if there is a change of atoms in their starting place. Changing the starting place and then going to another place does not mean that time exists. But the brain believes so to differentiate things from its stopped state.
