I'm 54 and grew up to my parents listening to them and i still listen to them, Terry Kath i believe was one of the best Guitarist that ever lived.. every band member was incredibly talented in their own way, which was incredible. They created some of the best music in the world, we'll never see another band like this ever.
he was incredible such a shame the band basically decided to stop having lead solos.
Jimi Hendrix called Terry Kath the best guitar player he had ever seen. That has to say a lot.
I'm 61 years old, Chicago's music was the soundtrack of my life growing up, Thank you Terry, Peter, James, Lee, Walter, Danny, Robert.
My 5 yo grandson and I watch this EVERY Saturday and dance and talk about how we wish Terry Kath was still with us! To be at these perfornances would be as great as being at Woodstock for me. What a magical experience this is❤
I’m 34 and love them. Age is only a number. These guys are amazing!
You are so right!!!
Chicago when Chicago was Chicago
Unlike the sappy group they became in the 80’s.
It's 45 years ago today that Terry left us. Truly one of the most innovative guitarists of all time. There will never be another like him. Fortunately, his music lives on even after all these years.
AGREED
hate to ask this way , apologies but Terry was at a party showing a friend his new hand gun and it went off killing him is what I heard a long time ago, is that accurate ?
@@ricjamesbtch-jm2vh My understanding is that Terry was playing with a semi-automatic pistol in front of one of the Chicago crew at a party. The fellow told him to be careful, and Terry ejected the magazine to show that the gun was now safe, pointed it at his own head, and pulled the trigger. Unfortunately, even with the magazine ejected, there was a round in the chamber.
As someone who has been a legally licensed gun owner for years, I've known for decades the adage that there is no such thing as an unloaded gun; you must always exercise great care and caution when handling a firearm. Sadly, Terry is only one example of what can happen when one does not exercise that caution.
@@adude394 thanks so much for your reply , such a horribly sad story I'm sure happens way too often , " there's no such thing as an unloaded fire arm " is what my Dad taught me , Terry most likely was a smart guy, he should've known that rule, let's say I wish he had known it ... I wish a lot more people knew gun safety, as I type this right now, somewhere in the world an accident just like Terry's is happening.... thanks again...
Unbelieveable
THIS is what music was like when I was growing up. It was only the best generation for musical creativity…EVER! 😏😊
As far as Chicago, this is probably the period of time that they were at their highest….both literally and figuratively! 😂 What a time to be alive, with music like this everywhere. What a wonderful world it was. I’d go back to it all in an instant. Screw computers, phones and social media!
The Chicago brass sound with CTA, The BUckinghams, BS&T
Amen Brother!
100%. Life was less complicated when we were younger.
Chicago was at the height of their genius. Thanks for the memories!
Yup! This video is such a treasure!!!
I’m 69 and can still remember hearing Chicago Transit Authority-Chicago for the first time. Amazing. Just got better and better!
What a creative band, music at its finest. Probably the 3 best vocalists in a single band ever. 👍
COMPLETELY 👍 AGREE!!
Agreed!!!!
totally agree - nobody ever did double or even triple leads this way. distinct voices - Terry and Peter's were the best. There's a cluelessness to the recent lineup, no vocal integrity. you can't have people singing bot hTerry and Peter songs. that's why I hated Pardini
@@dfgallHow about Three Dog Night? Danny Hutton,Chuck Negron, and Cory Wells.
And dont forget the great horn orchestrations by Jimmy Pankow
If there was a mount Rushmore for musicians, these 7 should have their likenesses carved on it.
Doesn't get better than these guys in their prime.
Doesn't get better than these guys PERIOD ☺️
True!!!
100% Agreed!
CTA was absolutley one of the greatest bands of the late 60's and 70's.The tragic loss of Terry Kath ripped the heart out of Chicago,Peter Cetera going off on his own and then Danny Seraphine was let go,stalled their engine in my opinion. That was the final straw for me.Still love the old tracks.
Also Walter Parazaider is battling Alzheimer's now
@@889martinrd6 Prayers for Walter and his family
I saw the new lineup not long ago, and it seemed to me that Robert Lamm took on more singing then he used to, and their new "lead"singer "sounds nasely. I'd rather listen to any of the original music than any of the new Chicago music.
Absolute perfection!! Multi instruments amazing horn section
Everyone is having a blast!!!
Chicago is the biggest collective of talent that the world of rock has ever seen...
One of the great bands of all time....saw them Jan 1977 at the Hammersmith Odeon London Terry Kath was still with us...they were brilliant
I love listening to crowds talk from RUclips concerts... Did Terry say anything?
@@LoyalOpposition Terry introduced some tunes...but it was mostly James Pankow who did most of the front introduction.....talking to the audiance
Awesome!!!
Awesome...my father n law saw them in Mexico city in 1972...said it was UNREAL.
I was there too, the first time I had seen my idols live and they didn't disappoint. The two things I recall most vividly was
1. The crowd booing and heckling Dave "Kid" Jensen who had the nerve to introduce a band he knew nothing of and had never played on the BBC until the dreadful If You leave Me Now was released and appealed to the masses who would never have listened to the band's real music.
2. The positive memory was Danny Seraphine sitting up high behind the band and opening up with the best live drumming I'd ever heard. The groove was totally mesmerising. Though I love Gadd, Porcaro, JR Robinon, Omar Hakim, and many other great drummers, Danny remains right up there, and his playing up to Chicago VII is legendary stuff. Igor of Leonid And Friends really does justice to Danny's legacy.
All 7 of the original members played a critical role in the band's success. Lee Loughnane wrote Call on Me, which IMO is one of their best songs, though some may claim his role was less than that of the other members. From what I've read that the original 7 were like family until Terry Kath's death, after which they seemed to lose their way.
I always was a fan of Chicago . The 70's ... RIP Terry K. 🎸🎸🎸
THEY WERE SOOO YOUNG AND ADORABLE !!
The music I grew up on! ❤
I remember watching this on TV. Good memories great times.
Their impact on me is immeasurable and profound. Walt, Robert, Terry, Danny, Peter, Lee and Jimmy--thank you from the bottom of my heart!
From mine,too ❤!
Specially Robert...oh, my gosh, What a handsome man...🥰🥰🥰
I Agree ROBERT OMG !! Is There Better Word Than HANDSOME? I WISH I COULD Think Of One!!
Peter's always been my favorite, but Robert and James wrote some great tunes in the early yrs, then it was all Peter. Peter's vocals are amazing.
@@lindaloeI'm thinking drop-dead gorgeous.
My first albums, purchased on a Saturday afternoon shopping with my best freind. Rod Stewart (Every Picture...) and my beloved and well worn Chicago 5. Todays teens have no idea what its like to slide your thumbnail down the side of an album. Read every line of the liner notes. Savoring every track, choosing which ones to play first for your freinds. I wish I still my album collection. But 50 years later, I am still best freinds with that same girl. Marriage, family, moves, we still have the bond and Chicago helped to shape it.
Luckily I saved all my albums from the 70's and 80's, even my turntable. I am rediscovering this music again after so many years.
some people are just lucky like that , is what I figure...
When they were all together there talent was amazing, Thanks for all the great years
I've been up all night listening to Chicago. So many memories of there awesome music. I was in my young teens when there music broke out. Love you always 😢❤
These songs means so much to my past, ..its beautiful the way Chicago (1967 -1980s) built my life.
...of course I knew of them when they were first playing on the Radio...but it wasn't until MUCH later that I checked them out & realized how Good they were !
So very true, nearly every song has a moment of my teens in it. Bittersweet but beautiful.
Unfortunately I moved to Nederland, Colorado, a few years ago after this. I used to go hiking behind the Caribou Ranch. I would have loved to have been there for this concert.
I live in Nederland (the Netherlands, Europe). I would have loved to be there as well 😅
I remember watching these specials when they originally aired. Nice to see them again.
First time I’ve seen
I remember seeing the commercials a couple of weeks before they aired - those nights were bigger than Christmas for me and my brother!
This music brings me back to when I was 7 years old pretending I was singing to a audience of my classmates being a rock star in my innocent mind .. gets into my soul every-time I hear them
And here I thought I was the only one who did that! 👍
The magnificent Seven 🕖❤🎉😢😅😊!!!! Love you guys for ever!!! And thank you for that wonderful music!!! 😮❤😅😊
I still come back to Chicago's songs for an emotional connection. Even though I was 8 when this special aired, I watched it. Have been a fan ever since. Their music is timeless!
terry kath the best lead guitar of all times better than jimi hendrix.
Chicago is
Terry Kath: guitar and lead vocals
Robert Lamm: keyboards and lead vocals
Peter Cetera: bass guitar and lead vocals
Danny Seraphine: drums
Walter Parazaider: woodwinds, percussion and background vocals
Lee Loughnane: trumpet, percussion and background vocals
James Pankow: trombone, percussion and background vocals
The Magnificent Seven, in my opinion. This was a super group. All stars. But Terry will always be my fav.
While Peter’s pop songs took them into the next decade, I feel depressed that Terry should’ve been exposed a hell of a lot more in his concert video. His riffs and guitar solos were sky high.
Yes, although he always had it, they did not Focus on Terry's Greatness until the next few years IMO. Peter was feeling the music and it showed thru his showmanship. He then hammers it home with his amazing Vocals throughout this Video. What's amazing is that every musician in this band's era was great, a perfect fit. When the Spotlight hit Terry Kath and his Talent, his Stardom and recognition went Sky High! They Blew our Band out of the water!
If you ever get the chance to watch the Terry Kath Experience that his daughter, Michelle, did, you will love it !!!
She did a remarkable job giving such personal insights about her dad, thru the people who knew and worked with him. There is a particularly sweet part where Michelle and her mom, Camilla, go back to Caribou Ranch and reminisce. Seeing Michelle soaking in her mom's words and discovering more about her dad is very heartwarming !
❤️ 😍 💖 ❣️ LOVE THIS BAND SO MUCH!!
I concur!, so happy my brother let me hear them. He played Tenor Saxophone and leader of the horn section in his band.
Mike told me their horns are tight, rhythm is tight and singing too!!. Baby Brother was absolutely right. I can't get enough of the original Chicago Band as I be singing background soprano with them.
Peter Paul Cetera can sing and play bass guitar all day for me with his facial expressions 😁🥰
I loved to have been there but I would have only have been 4 yrs old in 1973 the just you and me live version with the wah wah guitar sounds like a 70s cop show for about 30 seconds I used to listen to them on my sisters stereo in the rec room in our house in the 1970s sitting on a bean bag those horns are the best
The date was 12-19-69 when a few of my buddies I was stationed with and myself caught the train to Frankfurt Germany to see this group called Chicago Transit Authority. The Einhundert Halle was rockin and needless to say it was a memorable experience. The original lineup was the best!
This footage is classic. To be around Caribou in the 70s would have been something, CO rocky mountain high.
So soo cool many thanks. My wife saw them in San Antonio in 1974 when she was a freshman. I was at a different school so missed out.
Saw Chicago Transit Authority in 1969 in Philly. Concert line-up: The Youngbloods, Santana, Chicago Transit Authority, Canned Heat.
That must have been phenomenal
I SAW CHICAGO AT CHICAGO STADIUM IN 1973!!
Oh Yeah!! THE BEACH BOYS Where There Too.
Sounds like something for everybody in that line up 🙂🙂🙂
I also was at the show.....Convention Hall
Horrible sound quality in these live recordings,& they still sound amazing!!! Does not get better!
As a young drummer Mr. Danny Seraphine was a huge inspiration! Saw this band three times and got to meet them! Still love the older tracks!
I've always said - since the early 70's - that the band would have gone nowhere without him. I was also a similar style drummer. You gotta swing man. you gotta swing and make people want to move.
Danny is so underrated. He's definitely right up there if not up there as drummers go. I still can't believe he got tossed
Peter and Terry together was the best.
True!!!
They said Peter wanted to end Chicago when Terry died. Others pushed him to keep Chicago going.
Dear folks I didn't tell you this fact but I lived in Boulder, CO., for a year when I studied in The Economics Institute at the University of Colorado in 1981. I apreciate your kindness, your attention, your messages and of course all your music and classical sound since I listened to your first Great Album CHICAGO TRANSIT AUTHORITY in San Diego, CA. Have a nice night and take care. All my best wishes to all of you and your staff. Greeeeetings: 😊😊😊
Didn't the Buff's have Kordell Stewart than?😅
Many thanks for your kindness and your message. Greetings 🙏🕊❤️☦️🛐❤️🕊🙏
There must be forgotten footage from the filming of this show. I'd LOVE to see that!
All this material should be sold on DVD, as well as concerts including Chicago's albums contaning songs from Chicago I to Chicago VI, here in México.
They were musical wizards the original line up.
Agreed!!!!
Exactly!!!!! The "posers" of today are like another tribute band. Terry,Peter, Danny, Jimmy, Walt, Lee and Robert together were THE BEST!!!!
IAgree With That ! CHICAGO 🎵 AT THEIR Best!! The Guys That Started IT All!!
YES!!
nice memories good music fantastic in year 70s when i' was young famous & popular song
Geniales los siete magnificos. Tengo 63 y los conoci a lo 12.
What is this? It looks like some beautiful fantasy. Was America really like this? What I wouldn't give to have been there. Glorious.
What's This World Coming To..... Best Chicago funk tune ever!!!!
Chicago then and now is a world of difference. I’ll take the then all day long.
That's strange. Most bands sound better in year 50.
This is an underrated
Band and talented band.
We were all so skinny and happy! 😮🎉😊
Listening to Chicago on 8 track tape in my 69 Nova back in the day 😊
I accidentally heard about CTA in winter or spring of 69. I was 17. None of my friends knew about them. They were scheduled to play at Saratoga Performing Arts Center (NY state) that coming summer. Easy to get tickets early, few people had heard of them. Then, maybe 1 month before the concert, they hit the spotlight. Sold out the seats, but it’s outdoor, so many could sit on the lawn. That was the highest attendance ever at Saratoga. I went to college the next year major in music. I knew every note of CTA 1 & 2. They inspired me from 1969 until now. I played sax, but Beginnings inspired me to sing with Soul. (I called them CTA, The original name, before the Chicago Transit Authority forced them to stop using their name. ) They had their egos under control, the problem that breaks many bands. Proof is that for the first 1 or 2 years it was almost impossible to find out the names of the members. They didn’t want one person to be the “star”. Funny most of them could have become the front man. Maybe not the horn section, it’s tough for horn players to get recognition. No other band has created such a musical variety, I don’t know of any of their songs that sound like another. Creative Geniuses!
I know they play SPAC in September 1970.
Caribou ranch was a magical place. I'm glad they found Terry Kaths' lost guitar.
Damn, they were so good!
my god, live out in the wide open spaces, the sound is like it was lifted off the vinyl!
True!!!
It was
This was done outside the Colorado recording studio where they recorded many hit albums. They had technology to capture the best sound using the engineers who worked with Chicago and knew what they should sound like. The limiting factor was the medium- tv audio back then was horrendous. They sound as good as possible given that
@@GuiitarBilly...That studio is
just outside Nederland, Colorado
which is west of Boulder up Boulder Canyon. Elton John also
recorded there.
The studio and ranch have been
abandoned for many years now
and are in ruins. I lived in Boulder
for 33 years so I know first hand.
A Superb Band ! very distinct sound great players even here in the U.K at a very young age listening to 25 or 624 i used to think what a record ! always loved this sound at this period , Blood Sweat and Tears were another , Ides of March as well ! Superb stuff.... whats happened to Music now is no comparison to this stuff....... this is great !
Nunca me cansare de escuchar a esta gran Banda . saludos desde Xalapa ,Veracruz. México
Greetings from AZ!
🎸TERRY KATH YOU ARE MISSED 🎸😢
I was young, but connected. I get chills up my spine when this band had all parts, especially Terry's blues influence.
What an awesome video, absolutely LOVE it!!:-)
It’s a great video!!!!
Foi maravilhoso curtir e tocar o som criativo de Chicago.,. nos anos 70 . Saturday in the Park por excelência
Complete Genius
the silver double album was my first full record purchase with my birthday money-$4 at Kmart! My second was Santana Abraxas. What a time to be alive and a music lover!
When they were still good. Girls dancing like it's Top of the Pops!
OMG! This is a gem! Thanks for posting!!!
Unici nel loro genere li ho conosciuti che avevo 15 anni adesso neho 70 e mi emozionano ancora, è meglio di un matrimonio.......
Exelente video de este titan del rock CHICAGO gracias por compartir
I washed windows in Boulder back in the mid eighties and we did Caribou Ranch.
What a great time capsule this footage is. Great video of one of the greatest rock bands of all time.
La mejor banda CHICAGO 👍🏻
Es la verdad!
What an amazing live clip
Chicago Transit Authority is one of my favourite bands since I was in university, Universitas Gadjah Mada, in The Special Territory of Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Warm greetings from Yogyakarta, Indonesia.
"All is not lost"
Ah 1972 thru 1974, such sweet, savory babes. . . . .those were the days!!!!!
Great memories ❤
Such fantastic footage. Just wish they had shown more close ups of Terry's guitar solos.
I had seen the outside footage and wondered where they were. Awesome video...THANKS
Just amazing, even in Analog! So talented, a step back in time...
Everyone is smiling 👍
What a great, but unusual creative jazz type band of the early 70's times. Is the studio still there?
The horns are always good.
Plus, listening to and watching Peter compared to the latter 80's is quite a transformation.
The studio was damaged in a fire in 1985 and was never used again .

So sad..

How does a man go from being a BASS player to the head of a legendary, all-time-best-selling U.S. band like Chicago???!!! Only Peter Etc. knows!!! LL =
The best ever!
A Special Time My Graduation from Greene Central High School. It was Beautiful

Perfection!
What a cool vibe. I feel like I was partaking in the moment.
Ejecutantes impecables herederos de la mejor tradicion de las big bands y ademas buenos vocalistas. Que afortunda me siento de conocer a Chicago Band.
I saw this on it's original TV broadcast when I was 12 .
Yessssss - thanks for this
My dad visited that ranch in about 1974, he and a friend were asked to come up to review Cariboo ranch for operational improvements. He met Jim Gercio but had no idea who he or Chicago were.
