- As a compliment to my rigid weights, I made a set of flexible leather weights as well. These are especially useful for gluing up curved parts that are difficult to clamp or delicate surfaces that would be easily marked by a rigid weight or clamp.

You have ridiculously good craftsmanship skills. The bags look awesome.
My arthritic hands got sore watching you doing the stitching. Cool video. Larry
Thanks! Just made a bunch more rigid weights last week. I would love to have about 10 more bag weights, but the require much more effort.
Such style in everything you make.
I used very nearly the same method for making bench rest bag props. The only difference was I weighed out 25lbs of shot sewed into canvas and then sewed the shot filled canvas bag into the saddle shaped leather bag. I made four. Yes it is indeed a lot of work. Yours are exceptionally nice. You do beautiful work!
Quality work, man! I love seeing people take great care when making stuff when most people would just rush it.
There's supposed to be a strip of material down the double top stitch/french seam to re-enforce it. Without it, the material is liable to rip as only the thread is holding the two sides together. It'll do well enough, I'm sure. For cushions or something that might receive stress, that strip of material between the two sides makes it last a lot longer.
+Adam Rivera Thank you for your comment! Since it is a hand stitch instead of a machine stitch, I am relying on the fact that the leather would actually have to tear in order to fail... I don't think it will see that kind of action. If it was fabric or a machine stitch, I would be much more concerned... 16lbs of shot would be a PITA to clean up!
this is such a cool idea, makes me feel like some basic leatherwork isn't out of reach for a beginner... great stuff!
It's not, for good leather videos I would look to other RUclipsrs. This guy is amazing with wood and metal, but not so pro on the leather.
everything you make looks first class. I wish you continued success as I enjoy watching your videos. The only issue I have with them is I want them more often. Keep up the good work
Derek
Beautiful work! You definitely have the best aesthetic of all the RUclips makers. One quick thing, might I suggest you add your logo to your video thumbnails? I often find I skip over your uploads in my feed as I don't recognize them to be yours. Just an idea, keep up the good work!
Very nice craftsmanship on this; gave ideas and clearer understanding of how to work with some leather materials. Thank you
Nice job on those weighted bags. I was contemplating wrapping and sewing some leather around square lead blocks, but your design is more versatile and flexible. I need to go buy some lead shot. Thanks for posting the build.
That's flat out impressive...
Beautiful work, thanks for sharing Brian :-)

It's really impressive the variety of types of work you do to such a high standard of workmanship. Keep up the great videos!
Great video...can you do a tour of your tools you use for welding...
Very neat. Some lightweight leather oil like Bick 4 will help preserve the bags while not changing the texture, look, or feel.
Great sticht demonstration! Nice work!
jesus christ youtube... i get on these strange videos and suddenly i want to start working with leather. or building kites. or rc quad copters, or playing fuking paint ball, or whatever these people on youtube make look so fun
great editing!
I like your work Mr Brian!
A roller works great for when working with contact glue types. Especially if you can get your hands on one that's made with a 90 degree angle holder at the end of the handle. You can pass those through tubes like this one and still apply constant force, where as with a normal roller you struggle a bit because, well, tube.
Ramble aside those are really nice weight bags. I like the simplistic design. Great stuff!
Thanks! I need to pick up a hard rubber roller. I forgot how useful they can be!
Amazing amazing amazing. Every project so clean and well done. Subscribed as I'm watching all your videos now and looking forward to seeing what else you come up with.
Lol that leather slap. Nice
Thanks for your Great tutorial. A wide variety of Skills.
Love your video and design style. Keep up the good work! And thanks for sharing!
That's awesome to see the leather work. I've got a bunch of those leather tools, but I've only done one small project. Maybe I'll try this on some other projects. I love using lead weight bags, but I bought mine from the Diving Shop ;-)
Very nice , very handy!
+Frontierless Craftsman Thanks!
My wife said if those bags had flaps, a compartment and a strap they could be gorgeous women's handbags as well??? Where do you buy #8 lead shot at for a good price?
Good job! Brian
Well that just beats the heck out of my pie weights in a sock!
i am looking for a faux leather, (prefferably the one extracted from mushrooms or pineapples) that is as durable as normal leather, and more breathable as well. i have found two the above mentioned, but i cant buy them, as its proving hard to get a reply back. perhaps someone here can help me? it needs to be like belt leather or tool leather thickness
Is there list of tools you have? I really liked the hammer, cutting board and the chisel.
Hello. Where can I purchase weights of this type?!
May I PLEASE purchase some of these!
Very neat video. I have worked with just a small bit of leather and it was helpful to see you punched stitch holes in advance, correct? I've always hated stitching pieces together until watching this video. If I could make one suggestion: I am a bit slow to take in the details, so slowing down your playback by just a bit would be much appreciated. Either way, I'm going to be coming back here a lot, I think, to learn some more. Thanks again. Mike
+Michael D Kernan yes I pre punch the stitches. Have an awl handy to help open holes that close up. A lot of this was repetitive. A hint is that if you click on the gear icon in the video, you can slow stuff way down or speed it up. I use this all of the time!
nicely done *thumbs up*
nice
+SOURAVE MEL Thanks!
What is the fork/punch tool you used to space the holes for the stitching?
Brilliant. I am a new sub.
Really nice leather working! That cutting mat is very nice too, mind sharing what brand it is?
+Pat Plunkett Thanks! Fiskars I think...
What kind of thread was that? it didn't look very stiff? just curious.
jeeze, that was nice, but a lot of effort.

You must have spend days on this!!
without needing to dye or do any edge work. maybe 4-6 hours tops.
Nice job. Where did you get the board that you are working on?
+James McLaughlin Joanne's fabric!
I love your vids but have you thought about a laser cutter for this kind of work?
+Matt Byman Thanks! At some point I might get a laser. I used to use one at my work and we used it for everything. It was a 4'x8' 200W laser so it would be hard to get a crappy hobby laser after you get used to cutting 3/4" plywood with one...
I see what you mean. Would a glowforge do it for you? It is on my list.
+Matt Byman I think it is a good entry level machine. Some of the promised features like where it scans a drawing is an interesting feature. I liked Epilog lasers. I would hope to have closer to 100 watt laser. CNC routers are more useful to me for mold/pattern making but lasers are good for acrylics and paper craft and marquetry. I also used to use the laser for mocking up parts I intended to make out of laser cut steel before shopping it out. I have been keeping an eye out for a good laser to attach to the Platform... (Not a Chinese tube)
Brian Oltrogge Do you still accept orders for the platform? I would like to build one fitted with clearpath motors
+Matt Byman In the new year! I would have started it this month but fabrication companies are useless from Thanksgiving to New Years. I have also been careful not to have a wait list. Send me an email so I can fire off a note when I update the website!
Cool!
You've inspired me brian, Now I really need to use some extra leather I've got to make some weights. After I finish my drag knife (also you're fault ;) ).
What kind of leather did you use
how about making leather products as well?
Did you make or buy your hole punch? Also, where did you get your leather?
He probably got it from a local supplier.
We don't have a local supplier, I guess I can see what Google shows.
+L. J. Bush Tandy Leather... They are online as well!
Ok, thanks man, I thought they were out of business, it's good to know they're not.
Sorry to bother you about an old project but did u ever finish the metal dominoes and the aluminum box and if you did are you going to upload the videos.
+Spencer I finished the dominoes and they turned out great! I just decided to work on other things for awhile. I will be trying to get production quotes for them in the meantime since there are quite a few people who have expressed interest. I have not yet finished the box as I might recast because the sodium silicate sand left a terrible finish that requires a lot of unnecessary hand work that I haven't made time for. In a perfect world, I'd finish the prototype set and have some sets investment cast here in Detroit this winter. Wouldn't be limited to aluminum in this case!
+Brian Oltrogge Would love too see a video about the dominos!
What kind of leather did you use to make these?
+B Maughn I think it is 5 oz black kodiak leather..
1:17 why is that SMACK so satisfying to me?
have you ever thought about patenting and selling any of the items you make?
👍👍👍
I’m going to make iPad leather cases
I think you mean flexible gravity clamps.
Beanbags for Man!
for what ?
Little tip - its will be better to use piece of leather under punch hole tool, not wood). Googwork!

When you buy shot, it comes in a bag 🤷♂
That used to be fine when they came in a canvas bags. Now shot comes in a woven plastic bag. If you have ever ripped one, you’ll understand why you want a little more protection!
These look like Warren Buffet's wallet.
