Mark Kermode & Simon Mayo fight back tears reading an email about Toy Story 3 (BBC Five Live)

- Taken from the Podcast, recorded on the 23rd July 2010. Always thought this was an incredibly moving moment, where the two doctors are on the edge of tears while reading an email from a listener about Toy Story 3. All rights belong to the BBC.
Mark's "Yeah, that's lovely" at the end is fantastic. You can tell he's completely gone, bless his cotton socks.
The scene in 3 where they accept their fate together in the fire is easily one of the most moving in cinema history.
James Woodcock ***YES***
That was crippling! Had tears streaming down my face
It's not though really
The thought of mark kermode and simon mayo crying in a recording booth over woody from toy story is cracking me up. Howling. The films really are emotional. Jessie scene in 2nd being the one of the most emotional scenes ever
I would watch a whole comedy film with these two as unlikely action heroes.
Mark's final comment just gets me
what did he say i count hear it clearly?
gabo AGD "Yeah, that's lovely."
Simon: "Isn't that something else?". Mark: "Yeah, that's lovely"
Yea me to, that's lovely
I watched it again today with my 3 year old who was watching it for the first time. Again I fought back the tears as Andy gives Woody up. What an incredible film that can manages to use toys as a metaphor for loss and I was touched by my daughter's utter concentration to issues that she probably can't really grasp, but made in such a way that the themes are relatable to all ages. A really astounding set of films. 😔 😢
Beautifully written.
mark and simon were so adorable in this ahahahha
As a dad of a nearly 2 year old daughter who has just got into Toy Story. This will be even more emotional viewing now
I came here after 'goodbye to Jason'... :*(
The saddest outcome of this we have a Toy Story 4 that nobody wanted
Tbf everyone said that about Toy Story 3 as well....
Henry Roberts yeah, but toy story 2 wasnt the end of the story, i mean, it could have been, but what will the next one be about thats meaningful?
@Who Knew 22 - Speak for your bloody self. I want to see Toy Story 4. Just because you're a cynical twat doesn't mean everyone is.
Well, the reviews have just come in, and everyone says it's great. Personally, I'll believe it when I see it, but things are looking good.
and then you were completely wrong and looked stupid, THE END
I never thought of Toy Story 3 in this way before and it makes the film more profound.
I have three lads, one is 16 and half, one is 13 and the other is 5.
I have seen how our relationships shift over the years and how one day you kind of realise, they don't want to hold your hand anymore or play with figures with you. I always found it nice in a way that they are becoming their own person and it is glad to know we had those playing moments together.
I think it summarises most with me most when my neck batters because I still carry my 5 year old on my shoulders, to the dismay of some. Some people say that must hurt your neck and i tell them it does but...
I won't be able to do it forever, so I'll make the most now.
Thanks, that was Great, how I felt when way watching this with kids,😭
No 'manly coughs' from Simon or Mark here. Just a good cry.
Crying is more manly that you think, guys 💖
1:47 !!!
Damn, I went in dry to this wanting trivia with cornflakes and ended up walking around the garden choking back tears! That was beautiful. Curse you all making me contemplate the bigger picture when I was content with cornflakes and comedy.
I agree. The Toy Story trilogy is practically flawless.
LordMalice6d9 it's right up there with back to the future as best trilogies ever made
jackie boy the dark knight, cornetto, Star Wars, lord of the rings are all better than Back to the Future. Toy story is up there tho
mate it's an animated children's movie
I cry just thinking about Toy Story lol
...and now, on with the weather!
I watched Toy Story 3 when I was eight in the cinema with my aunt and as one of the many films my mother cried at, I never understood why she cried until I had access to a RUclips account. And going into Toy Story 4 I was cautiously optimistic because if it was another film like this one, then the audiences would rightfully throw a fit, thank fucking god it wasn't, but what I took away from that film was the same as with Mark and Simon said in this episode, "it's a story about all parents and how they dread that inevitable day when we too are played with no longer.", only that it's one of the many answers to the parents about what to do when that day comes, the popular answer being "Look for the adventures you put on hold when you were 22, and get them started".
awwww
Too bad that they're making another one then.
4 was good but the films should’ve stopped at 3 to remain a trilogy. Toy story 4 is essentially just there to give Woody a close to an arc
sob
the saddest part of toy story 3 was when the toys didn't die in that lava pit
That was an upsetting moment but when Andy gives his toys away has me blubbering every time.
i kept my cool until “so long, partner” then the dam broke and i wept
I’ve never seen any of the Toy Story films or any of the Harry Potter films.
Being an adult, I prefer films that aren’t for kids.
& then they make a sequel. Meh!
That was pure grilled cheese on cheese.
"Yeah, that's lovely."
Almost died laughing there
Never seen it.
Yet you're here. I suggest you do see them. All three.
Not interested in animated films.
Interested enough to comment here though. On a 3 year old post, from a recording 8 years ago. Why?
Because I like Kermode and Mayo and the title of the video made me curious in terms of the content of the e-mail they had been sent. Is that ok with you?
Hmmm....I'll let it pass this time. However you need to watch the 3 x Toy Story films.
I don't get it.
What 6 tosspots gave a dislike to this.
BOO HOO HOO
I thought they were going to make fun of the ridiculous email. lol
We really are fucked!
My review of Toy Story 4 would be one word: No. Ruining a perfect trilogy is just foolish.
It’s not that good of a trilogy. The first two are great but the third film is basically Toy Story 2. The only part that people got connected was at the end of the movie. Which doesn’t follow the formula from the second film.
The Before Trilogy is much better (in terms of a trio of films). Hate Pixar.

Good luck to him, I found Toy Story a complete waste of time although the video game was very good.
Erm am I missing something? What exactly is so sad about this email that reduces them and apparently the majority of the comment section to absolute break down crying? I'm a little confused tbh
The emailer was comparing Andy's giving up of the toys to their own daughter, recognising one day she will grow up and she'll be living her own life with new people
@@bwoahviously yeah I got that but I wouldn't say that would reduce me to tears and the way he was hyping it up before saying he doesn't know if he will get through it was abit much. I was expected it being a film that comforted someone after a horrific accident/moment in their lives. But fair enough
Clickbait much?
its only a movie
johnnyboy562 a movie that for many, taps into incredibly powerful emotions about love, time, growing up and the human experience
+acb films meh. toy story 3 is pretty much toy story 2
