Honestly, every critique should have been blind.
I almost feel like the judges enjoyed it as well, and there were more good surprises in the reaction/critiques, as opposed to good work getting less praise because it was expected of someone.

Literally and they will consider an edgy black and grey tattoo on a girl bad because it’s not “feminine” enough even though the art is good and the client is happy🤦🏻♀️
Maybe they just know the color palette these female artists lean toward? I dont know but it’s a thought.
@@kekkelpenneypeckeltoot5700 There's several examples of the judges saying, since the tat was more feminine it must have been done by a woman, they've even critiqued artists for putting "dark and harsh" tattoos on women canvases even tho thats what they wanted. They've been surprised when a technically solid more "masculine tattoo" was done by a woman. Their bias is pretty clear.

Blind critique would’ve took out a lotta drama from the show that’s why they didn’t always do it 😁
they love drama and seeing the reactions of the competitors, they don't really like it neither lol
Just a different way to add drama tho. The coaches reactions can elicit drama tho.
I could never be a judge on this show, because I'm like 'I dunno, looks good to me!', while the judges are like 'this is so rough!'
There's been some tattoos that looked absolutely awful
I agree with some of what you say! tbh sometimes the judges go too harsh on a tattoo which isn't even bad considereing the time span they have and they also forget to point out the goods in a tattoo :/

The shoebill “dog with a beak” is actually completely accurate they are a weird looking bird.
They look like Pokemon 😭
The worst part about this show is when the tattooer chooses a design that incorporates something niche and the judges have no idea what it is so they just ignorantly regard it as bad. Like, isn't it your job as an artist to know subjects and references?

sometimes i feel like they care mostly about technique and application and designs can be basic or rough and they still get a pass. for the average person you'll meet who doesn't know anything about tattooing, a shoebill tattoo is a hell of a lot cooler than a rose. maybe that's just me idk. i like more unique pieces. technical application is easy. show me creativity!

"If they knew who they were saying that about" This is why all critiques should have been blind cuz she's right, the judges will always have that subconscious bias, like when DJ said "If this is my buddy, Josh, he's a beast". Will blind critiques noone can accuse the judges of being harsher on them or being bias against them.
The last set of tattoos were some of the most impressive I’ve seen the whole show. The girl holding the necklace with the flowers…breathtaking. The eyeball riding the motorcycle….cool as hell. The black and grey rose….gorgeous.
Just so impressed all around.
The master-apprentice season was always weird to me. Like there was an air of ego in the background that shouldn’t be there. Wouldn’t you want your apprentice to be better than you? Isn’t that the sign of a good master that the apprentice surpasses you in skill?

I totally agree with you. A lot of the masters irked me when they got beat by their apprentice. The shining exception was when Duffy schooled EVERYONE with the Victorian throat piece. And her master Kruesman was really proud of and happy for her!!

12:24 Going into the show you have to figure that the producers are looking to have 1 person from each team in the finale. The top 3 artists each choosing to join team DJ was not very smart, they essentially shot themselves in the foot. If they were smart and decided to join different teams the finale quite possibly would’ve looked much different.

Can’t believe the judges don’t know the bird from 18:30, that was a pretty solid tattoo, and in my personal opinion (not a tattoo artist, but just a human being with eyes and love for tattoos) that tattoo should have been in the 14 chosen ones. Ridiculous how the lack of knowledge from the judges side prevented a girl to advance in the competition 👎
The only way this show could be fair is if all the tattoos were blind judged. The judges are so painfully biased towards certain people, both for the good and the bad. Blind judging is the only real way to choose an Ink Master.
But then the judges would start recognising people's styles after a while so they'd still be biased
@@user-ho7mg9ol7w Have you ever watched Ink Master? They purposefully push artists out of their comfort style and they have them do things they'd never normally do, you can see in Blund critiques when they're surprised a certain artisy did something because they didn't think it was them. There's even been artist that never had a chance to showcase their signature style because it never came up in their challenges.
@@user-ho7mg9ol7w never reveal who the artist is. i understand for the flashes there wouldnt be a winner or an advantage, but they have way too much bias if they know who did it tbh
@@Beanz-on-Toast My point was that all artists have a sort of style. Something in their art work that makes you stop and say I know exactly who did that, no matter what they do.
It's not the tattoo itself, it's the way they draw it. I have seen the show and I know the judges have been unable to tell who's tattoo belongs to who, but then there have equally been a lot of tattoos that you look at and go I know who did that.
That's what my point is. After a while, the judges will start recognising styles so it will still be biased
@@imdva my point is that you don't need to. Every artist has a different way of drawing or colouring. With a lot of people, once you get to know them, you start recongising their stuff, even if they're doing something completely different just from their drawing or colouring techniques (their style).
Tattoo artists are no different. Even in 'blind' judging you can easily tell who's done what tattoo.
I mean, it's like recognising a Holbien. The way it's painted, the colouring, the way the facial features are drawn.
Tattoos are another form of art after all, just on the skin

The one thing I really hate about these shows is that too many people seem to not know the difference between confidence & arrogance.

Its amazing to me how art has evolved. Many of the winners of back then would be the losers of today, technical problems like shitty linework aside.
Dave Navarro gives moral support, hes a guitarist, guitar collector, he has so many, they are gonna have him on hoarders.
They must've realized real quick that some of that fake drama that the judges give goes right out the window when all critiques are blind. I like the blind critiques though

Who else would like an ink master season with all ink master winners and they are judged blindly for each completion.? Also, a season with second place winners, or a season with second and third place competing maybe teams. All judging should be done blindly..
They need to do blind critique more often as they can't take preconceived notions about the skill or lack of skill of the artist. You literally have to guess based on what you see before you. It could be someone amazing doing the work or someone completely unexpected.

The apprentice has nothing to lose and everything to gain. The master has something to lose and the win doesn't really mean much when compared to the apprentice.

Why are these artists so offended immediately as they receive a critique. Be happy somebody told you what's wrong geez. I know it hurts your ego, but that's the only way to improve.

This is reality TV not reality, production has cut this together to increase the percieved drama. Do not assume any of these reactions were at all related to what we were shown. Enjoy the art and don't take anything else serious with Inkmaster.

All the smack talking and negative BS kills what could be a really great synergy between talented artists that could respect, appreciate, and learn from each other's work- instead they just want to try to cut each other down, it's very sad. I would love to spend time with 24 experts in my trade, and sure we do things differently, but exposure to new ideas is how you get better. Nobody''s game ever improved by shitting on somebody else's work or style.

Anyone else notice that they framed Oliver out of every one of these compilations. They couldn’t remove his voice without losing the critiques for a ton of artists but they framed him out of every shot.

I love how the master were giving each other looks when a master win. But yet it was pretty even in terms in who won and who lost. Plus not only that. Most of them (both sides but mostly masters) who won only won because the other person also messed up and they just messed up slightly less. They didn’t get oh clearly we know and not because both messed up. 😂 To me that’s not really a win. That you got lucky. A win is both did well but your did better.
