    Excellent video, I've repaired my Dell 1558 power button using this, many thanks. The only problems I had were which way up to plug the power cable back in, as I'd forgot which way it came out (plain side down), and also what to do with the spare length of cable. I found the best solution was to loop it through the holes for the WLAN card and back again.

    Thanks, Chris! Excellent step-by-step instructions for a non-computer-repair-person. Laptop works again, and you saved me lots of money. Fairly easy with your help!

    Great video. I'd never disassembled a laptop before, only desktops. Followed the video step by step and found my power button was only loose from the impact of the drop. Fixed it and reassembled using the video. Thanks for saving me some cash for a repair bill.

    Got a gateway nv79 series with the power sw in the same place as the dell youre working on here. Want to relocate the pwr sw where it wont be prone to breaking or cracking. Thanks 🤓

    Excellent step by step instructions!! My nearly five year old Dell Studio 1558 's power button finally stopped working last week (after being first dropped over 3 years ago). Watched several "how to" vids, selected yours, purchased the replacement part from Ebay, and voila, it's working again!

      I would try it but keep packaging for the new button so you can return it if it doesn't fit. I can't confirm 100% if it is compatible.

    Brilliant video Chris! Just used it for fitting a complete replacement back panel to my grandson's Studio 1555 laptop that involved all the dismantling / reassembly you show in this one . . . and it actually worked! Thanks a million.

    THANK YOU THANK YOU!!! I just replaced my power button and my system works! YAY! A question though - I didn't buy my power button from Dell - and the first message to pop up on my laptop was that it would no longer recognize my power supply - that my battery could no longer be charged with the power supply (that the laptop came with). Is this true? And if so, is there a reasonable remedy? Thanks again for this instructive video!

      It could be a number of things, but replacing the button would be an inexpensive thing to try.

    I plug in my power cord and the green light comes on then goes off. I push the power button and nothing happens. I remove the battery and then put it back in and the green light comes on for 2 minutes then goes off. What needs to be fixed or replaced?

      Mark Komar Hard to say without trying some different parts and removing other components. Can you power it on with the AC connected and battery removed?

    • @mkdsk101
      @mkdsk101 8 лет назад

      NO. I plug in the AC and the light comes on then goes off. I then press the power button but it will not power on.

      You could try another power button given the low cost, before that though you could remove some other components to see if it'll start. (HDD, Optical Drive, WiFi Card, Etc) These may seem extensive, but you want to rule out everything other than the motherboard... the most expensive part to replace. Feel free to contact me directly (Details on channel page) for additional support.

    Hi Chris Very helpful. Got to 10:12 and have ordered the correct cable assembly. One question though when disconnecting the white and black cables from the WLAN board the grey cable was not connected to anything. Is this correct. Cheers Mark
