I envy you your supply of "scrap" and raw materials. In my area in the US, scrapyards open to the public are few and far between, and I have to pay full price for almost anything useful. Very nice work!
It's not easy to find something on scrapyard due to very high prices of new steel. Price of scrap increased twice in this year, but still it's almost three time cheaper than new. Thank you!
Yeah, from the meth and pain pill induced cleanup efforts coast to coast starting around 95 till about 5 yrs ago, you're lucky to find a piece of tin roofing material nowadays. Let alone anything worth working with to build something. And now there's no scrap yards hardly to take anything to where you might find something good since the price is so low they can't afford the fuel to run the equipment they use to process what they buy, so they close. Let a war pop off or some country that needs occupying for a decade or 3, and it'll be right back in full force tho. Nothing drives an economy like ours like war or having to occupy and police someone else's country. Does the quill rack and pinion have backlash? Is there a way to minimize the backlash if yes? did you salvage the rack and pinion from something else or was it purchased? thanks you, amazing build and amazing video series
Rack and pinion were bought new, they are mass produced universal parts. I my milling head I have a lot of backlash on those keyways cut with anglegrinder. It's one of the things that needs improvement in this milling head.

Hello Steelcraft! Please can you answer my question? Where you get the Part for the frame/body of your Milling Head/ Spindle Cover from cast iron? I want also build a milling head like you. The Body and the y and z axis of my milling machine was an old shaping machine.
Hello This cast iron part is a spare part for URSUS C330 farm tractor - hydraulic cylinder. I think you should find something simmilar to old models of tractors from your country without any problem.
I didn't beat shielding of new bearings. I was hammering thru old sacrificial bearing on the inner ring of the bearing when installing on shaft and outer ring of bearing when installing on socket
You're awfully hard on all those drill bits and chamfers. I can tell they're of good quality. Letting them smoke is pretty tough on them though with all that heat. I know it takes a little more time to use coolant or a type of cutting oil but it does help the life of the tools. Just saying.
@@SteelCraft99 would like to see higher accuracy in your work. You are drilling location holes using a hand drill.
