    Amazing !! This guy’s drill press are his handheld drill, his body and shoes. His fetal mill becomes a temporary lathe to fabricate its own parts. His belt sander becomes a precision cutting tool. It seems to me he doesn’t even need the milling machine he is building. Incredible rogue fabrication. Respects, sir.

      It is an unequal fight, the worst problem is the lack of a lathe, collet chuck is very limited with size of stock I can mount.

    I envy you your supply of "scrap" and raw materials. In my area in the US, scrapyards open to the public are few and far between, and I have to pay full price for almost anything useful. Very nice work!

    • @SteelCraft99
      @SteelCraft99  3 года назад +4

      It's not easy to find something on scrapyard due to very high prices of new steel. Price of scrap increased twice in this year, but still it's almost three time cheaper than new.
      Thank you!

      Yeah, from the meth and pain pill induced cleanup efforts coast to coast starting around 95 till about 5 yrs ago, you're lucky to find a piece of tin roofing material nowadays. Let alone anything worth working with to build something. And now there's no scrap yards hardly to take anything to where you might find something good since the price is so low they can't afford the fuel to run the equipment they use to process what they buy, so they close. Let a war pop off or some country that needs occupying for a decade or 3, and it'll be right back in full force tho. Nothing drives an economy like ours like war or having to occupy and police someone else's country. Americans just like America itself, blossoms and blooms like endless prairies of wildflowers brought back to life from the scorched earth just after a gentle rain. Sad but true, that we most thrive in the course of opposition and impending doom.

    Does the quill rack and pinion have backlash? Is there a way to minimize the backlash if yes? did you salvage the rack and pinion from something else or was it purchased? thanks you, amazing build and amazing video series

    • @SteelCraft99
      @SteelCraft99  6 месяцев назад

      Rack and pinion were bought new, they are mass produced universal parts. I think that only thing you can do with minimizing backlash in this case is to put some washer under rack to move it closer to pinion. I my milling head I have a lot of backlash on those keyways cut with anglegrinder. It's one of the things that needs improvement in this milling head.

    That hand drilling wore me out just watching! You should of built a drill press first and used lots of cutting oil.

    You’ve bought all the challenging parts, not home made. Show me you turning your spindle on a your lathe then I call it home made

    • @SteelCraft99
      @SteelCraft99  3 года назад +2

      I don't have lathe, don't have even drill press. I want it to be a real working machine, not just somthing that only scratch metal with lots of chatter. Spindle shaft is chinese you're right, I just bought it. Spindle sleeve is custom made from my drawings (again, I don't have a lathe). It's still a home made machine. Finding solution in ready to buy parts is a part of the fun.

    Sorry mate not diy spindle, any one can buy it. DIY is machining the spindle and components
