Frankly that's magnificent. The problem for me would be that building the CNC itself might be more fun and more rewarding than what what I might ever build WITH it. One thing for sure, you're doing this because you want to, not because you need to. A Phantom Shadow is only $23,100.

One way to check for twist is to use the two wires method with a multimeter set in continuity mode. Hook one end of one wire to the positive lead and the other to the negative lead. When the two wires touch, you'll hear a beep.

The technique for aligning and squaring the rails with common shop equipment (other than the beam straightedge which isn't common) is pretty brilliant. I have been stumbling over how to do this in my garage. I also never thought to align the cross table supports to the already installed gantry and z axis assembly...that will be a real time saver. I am wondering if Mr. Craft is a Millwright to have such knowledge?

My build would be so much easier if I could find a deal on a nice beam straitedge like that! Is he using the CD reflection to make sure he is running the drill motor perpendicular to the plate? Thats pretty cool.

When I do the crossed cord height alignment I always use two cords in one of the directions. The other crossing cord then passes between them. You can then see exactly when the heights are correct.

Excellent work, I loved the CNC and it's envious, post a video of it in real work so we can enjoy this work. By the way, what was your total expense? Compared to one sold on Aliexpress, how much was the difference, besides of course the pleasure of creating it? Congratulations! I hope you make good use of it!🙂

Beautiful machine. If I were to build one, I’d make it so that the legs can be removed and the entire frame for that matter. This machine was apparently built in a small room which means they’re going to have trouble getting it out should they decide to move. They will most likely end up knocking down a wall. Anyway, all the best of them.

I mean, it is a nice build. But sorry to say, It hurts me so much to see you weld without any protective gear for your hands and that you spray paint WITHOUT any mask. Please, never spray paint without wearing a mask... Breathing in that toxic stuff, not good. Got the money to buy the metal and all the components needed, guess you should spend a little of that money for your own health. Also to teach other people that are watching your video. Can get really sick from that shit.
