I really love the idea how they replace old conventional fire alarm systems with modern adderssable fire alarm system. In the United Kingdom, they use call points instead of pull stations
Awesome video! Also (At 5:53) that has to be the oldest and coolest heat detector I've seen so far in this system upgrade. I assume this one got thrown out with the other heats, but it's cool none the less.
Yeah I don't blame you about that 14 ft ladder. I can tell it looked janky even before you were on it. Honestly you were playing a game of 50/50, because there was an even chance it would stay stable but yet it could fall and we don't want that happening. (Especially at a school.)
49:07 I HATED the portables in my elementary school because they had Simplex conventional TrueAlert horn strobes (which have no volume adjustment and are always on high volume) on continuous. It was a portable with four classrooms and a hallway connecting all of them. When they first got it, I saw that they had System Sensor horn strobes (one in the hallway and one in each of the four classrooms) but I was hoping that they would just replace them with remote strobes in the classrooms. I’m glad you are setting them to low volume so those kids don’t have to go through the same pain.
Well done Nic, or to put it another way “you have a knack when it comes to installing many a well organized NAC Nic” Can’t wait to hopefully purchase a bell, pull and heat in the not too distant future. Also Nic whatever you do be sure and keep that silver metal heat detector from early on as those are extremely rare now. I think I now know why Edwards discontinued them early on; supposedly due to their aluminum body they were much more prone to falseing in certain situations (such as steam) so plastic was the preferred material thereafter. Finally be sure to save one of those original Edwards EOL plates from back in the day; love those super cool looking resistance symbols they would cast on them. Nice asbestos suit Jamie; must have been tricky mounting those new heats up there. Excellent job guys.
Thanks as far as those heat detectors I think they are cool I do like the look of them Edwards doesn't make them anymore but I've still seen them installed as recent as a few weeks ago so they are still produced just by a different company can't remember who makes them
I have just watched this on RUclips after watching Part one. First off, these videos are a little long so I had to watch this on 1.25 & 1.50x speed and at normal speed. Sorry about that. Second, as far back as I can remember, in my Junior or Senior year in High School and attending Sno- Isle program, which BTW is another High School, I remember when they had to replace the old Fire alarm system and the Fire alarm Control panel in the Main Office. The Fire alarms were old, about 25 years & were replaced by EST Genesis horn/strobes in the class rooms and the Intergrity horn/ strobes on the outside and 2 in the Greenhouse & the Portable they had. They also had a Wheelock AS horn/straps in the Cafeteria andsome Heat and smoke detectors in the classrooms as well. Thirdly, I do agree with you about the 14 foot ladder and I also agree that older buildings that were built in the 50s, 60s and 1970s didn't have any codes or any Fire codes & they weren't enforced or not in placed. In my opinion, it's as if the contractors didn't care about the safety and the well-being of the occupants in a certain building or the location or sound level of the older Bells or Horn/ Strobes or they simply didn't have the money to fix the problem or "troubles". Aside from that, I still like the bells, it's sad that some of them aren't being used anymore, (well not those 11 or 12 inch bells), and being replaced by horn/strobes or even speaker strobes which they're okay 🙂👍😊.
18:35, those IT people suck. I run those same Cisco access points and the mounting brackets for them are cheap and all over Ebay. They won't transmit as far either sitting on a metal object versus being mounted on drywall. Seeing that shotty work kills me...
What are you doing with the ceiling mount horn strobe that you mentioned in the last video? I wouldn’t think the old system would have had any bells on the ceiling.
Hard to say you'd think it would be a yes as it won't be that old but then you would also have a period of time without a fire alarm system which may or may not be a problem
Usually depends on what the building management wants to do with it since it's unoccupied so there isn't a life safety concern usually if they do want firewatch they will have a security guard come around every hour
No wheelock doesn't seem to have as many options and I've never seen gentex or faraday in Canada and you can only use devices listed for use with the panel you are installing
Will you save the new devices when the school is demolished? You said something about the old school (in a previous vid or this vid) being demolished in favor for a new one that is bigger and better.
I Live in the US and i see that installers write EOL on the alarm itself with a sharpie as End of Line resistor on the alarm itself or they may be writing more detail like for example: EOL CKT 1, I know the US requirements but i don't know canadisn requirements because I live in the US but i'm still learning more about the canadian requirements
@@iansanchez1470 yes it would make sense to label the end of line device if you had the resister on the actual device however that isn't allowed here sometimes we still will label the end of line plate after the end of line device
@@IanGSully the fire alarm is fine now once it's installed just can be more difficult to troubleshoot. asbestos only becomes a problem if it needs to be disturbed and then you have to do an abatement of it which makes seismic upgrades challenging to do in the school year when kids are around

Notifier is in every way better, but I love the big red bells. I'm the kid in school who got excited when I heard there would be a fire alarm test.
Yeah I hear ya same here
I love the pride you take in your work. Those portables’ booster panel wire management is a work of art. Keep up the fantastic work.

Augh, continuous? Like come on, they’re fire alarms, they could’ve at least used code 3
@@CGray1234 Yeah I think that continuous is unfortunately still allowed in my area because I have never heard a system on code 3 in my life.

Great video 👍
I was literally watching part 1 at 6:00AM lmao
at your house you should connect the generator for supervisory ( running )
7:01 Creepy
i kind-of like to see whats behind the bells, because at my school they still use the circle bells.
Professional work as always. Did you keep the IO-64?
It turns out to actually be an IO 1000 I kept it originally but sold it
@@nics-systems-electric nice
I mainly just hate to see stuff get thrown out, so I’m glad it went to a good owner, espically considering it’s still in great shape

Maybe

What are you doing with the ceiling mount horn strobe that you mentioned in the last video? I wouldn’t think the old system would have had any bells on the ceiling.
Yes there was a trouble bell on the ceiling that was mistakenly accounted for during the device count
@@nics-systems-electric Wow I have never heard of a bell on the ceiling.

Hard to say you'd think it would be a yes as it won't be that old but then you would also have a period of time without a fire alarm system which may or may not be a problem

@@nics-systems-electric maybe you could keep some contacts. That’s what I did to get my 4100U from the old highschool it was installed in.
Do you ever get shocked by the wires when the system is on?
Not fire alarm
Ok thanks for your feedback you are the best person to reply to my comment and questions
The electrical current output is 24V DC so it's very unlikely to get shocked
Is the bilingual signage common across all of Canada?
Yes
Nic Do you have a part three
There is a part three verification of it yes
where do you buy your fire light stuff
eBay
What are resistors for?
For supervising the circuit if the circuit had a break anywhere the panel would no longer see resistance and know there was a trouble
have u seen any residential smoke detectors in schools? in my middle school there were some and in my elementary school there were a lot of
Just temporary for sleepovers in areas that don't have smoke detection
I can’t believe that fire alarm breaker wasn’t painted red & locked on
