You know when you watch a review after purchasing a headphone to validate your purchase? Yeah.
😂😂😂😂😂
What this guy said 😉
i dont even own these but i did the same for my 1990s 😂
@@inthebackwiththerabbish I prefer the 1990s to these tbh especially for gaming. These are just meh!
Lmao I do this after everything I buy.
Andrew from 'The Headphone Show' measured the new Sundara revision and he indeed found slightly heightened bass response and little bit tamed down highs.
Absolutely great to receive a heart❤️ from Joshua! Joshua, you were one of the main reasons why I brought Hifiman Sundara (the new revision). I trusted your review of the old variant and believed that this one would slightly improve on that based on what I heard.
How did you know its revised Sundara? I want to buy revised one but can't find the difference by the look
@@InSaNam0603 If you buy one new now, it will be the new version. You can also email hifiman the product id and ask them if it's the new revision
@@InSaNam0603 I just emailed Hifiman with the serial number of my Sundara and they confirmed it is the new revision. Looks are pretty much the same, so you can't rely on that.
@@Hari-kx2er Thank you so much. I gotta check mine as well
I asked a question to the manufacturer. Here is the answer "Thank you for contacting us. As the manufacturer, We assure that nothing has been changed to the driver to tweak the sound of SUNDARA. We've only improved the stock earpads for enhanced durability by changing the glue, but didn’t change the shape or size. So actually we never have the "Stealth Revision version".
Joshua I just found your channel a couple days ago. Absolutely awesome content! I’ve been into music my whole life but just now really trying to enter the audiophile world. I just ordered a Schiit stack with the Heresy and the a pair of Hifiman HE4XX. They will be my first open back headphones. Thanks for all the help! Really wanted the Sundara but just couldn’t get the stack and spend that much on the headphones right now lol
That set is looking sooo crisp!
Set breakdown video?💥
Congrats on 100K!
Thanks Josh. I am loving my new Sundara's. Agree with you. For the price, these are Killer!
I've had a pair for three months now, I love them.
Listen to this review on my 2020 Sundara - thanks to an old review of yours. Love them.
The Sundaras with the THX Onyx dongle DAC with my iPad Pro is my daily driver and love them. I just replaced the ear pads on my Sundaras with Dekoni sheep skin memory foam pads and love it. These are awesome headphones. I also have the Aryas for desktop listening, and with the MOTU M2 you can actually power the Aryas from the usb-C connection on the iPad Pro which is cool.
Iv heard that hifimans dont handle pad swaps well. Im guessing this isnt the case for you?
Got mine last week and I'm super happy.
Resolve said the slightly increased bass response was maybe due to the new pads creating a better seal, because the new pads have an angle to better fit a person's head.
Broke down and got a pair, mostly because of your reviews. THANK YOU! I have a pair of DT 1990 Pros (also because of your reviews) that I absolutely love for mixing/mastering, but they've always felt a little clinical or something for relaxed listening. Don't quite know how to explain it - the Sundara's have all the detail you could ever want, but they don't hit you over the head with it. Just got 'em and I think I'm in love.
do you the sudaras for your professional work? or are these more for fun casual listening?
@@suzukitaka4470 I haven't used them for mixing work yet but I do plan on using them for upcoming sessions. Overall I'd say they're great for casual listening but def have detail and clarity to spare for more critical work.
So you would easily choose sundaras over 1990 pro ?
And one question is imaging and sound stage better than 1990 pro?
Thanks for sharing your opinion.
@@hellofriend4941 I wouldn't say easily at all... Soundstage feels more open on the Sundara, but imaging I'd probably say 1990. 1990 closer to a flat response, so if I absolutely had to choose I'd probably pick them for work. But the Sundara takes EQ really well and they're just a really easy listening experience. They complement each other nicely, offer different but related experiences if that makes any sense. A/Bing them for final mixes has been very useful. I've sold all my other headphones but kept both of these. Hope that helps. 🤷♂
Just bought these a few days ago and I F****** LOVE THEM. I'm pairing them with the Topping A30 and D10s.
When did this revision come out I just got a pair like two to three months ago and it’s paired with a schiit hel. Being my first pair of HIFI headphones I’ve never been happier with music
josh, amazing video!!! Do you think the Fiio k3 would be enough to push the sundara?!
Hi! Thank you for your video, it was nice! I started to think that I would like to get my hands on these. I am a bit troubled tho because I don't understand much of this HiFi stuff yet, I bought this BT DAC thingy (Fiio BTR 5) for my other headphones and when I went and checked the specs on that and compared to these, I don't think I can use that with these headphones. Could you point out maybe one or two entry level amplifiers that I could use with these if I am going to get these? Sorry for the trouble 😅
This is great news for a lot of people because the price of these headphones is not bad at all. Thanks for the review Josh.
Its ironic that even with at least 2 revisions, Sundara is one of their most consistent products.
There wasnt any revision.
Well that is a Chi-fi for you
Appreciate your reviews. sundara they respond well to a shelf eq of a few decibels in the bass or it makes the music muddy?
This is one of the great audio bargains. A born classic.
How do I know if I have the 2020 revision? Just based on the purchase date? But what if the seller had an older version? Ugh, so many questions. Kinda tempted to sell my Sundara and buy them again just for peace of mind.
If pad change is the only change, there have been better after market pads that improve the sound for a while already. One of the best headphones for it's price.
Listening to this review with my Sundara 2020 version. YESSSSSSSSSS!
Plot twist: this is 2021 revision
@@PratikDaga23 wait WHAT
@@jldkrank no, there's not 2021 revision. It's just the 2020 revision otherwise more info would be available on it, but there isn't. Means it's just the 2020 and the review was just late OR I didn't look hard enough
@@aerternaeaerumna5158 I've been seeing rumblings that this is what that is. But who knows until HiFiMAN says something
the stronger bass response could be due to the new earcups now that they are significantly angled to account for the lack of swivel
I wish we have some kind of indication to see which versions or "revisions" we're going to get and I mean... Doesn't really matter how many revisions they do if the QC is not addressed then nothing really changes.
Hi Josh, do you suggest this updated Sundara or the Ananda for progressive electronic music?
Thinking of buying this hf and the FiiO btr5 2021. Is this a nice combo? Wanted the Qudelix 5k but apparently is hard (can’t) find on Europe.
Did they improve the earpiece extension mechanism that Josh said was the main weakness of the build in his original review?
"I think there are benefits to doing it both ways"
-Joshua, 2020
Lol
2021
@@kablooie-vv5hf oh god
Josh knows what's up
Can you review the new version of Verum 1? I've heard a lot of good things about them. (in the review I watch they compared them to lcd2s)
what microphone setup is being used for this video? you sound great!
Great clean pillowy compressed limp bass response 🥶
Hello my friend, one question, what is best, new focal clear mg pro vs hifiman Arya, what is best sound in total?
I have a Schitt Stack (heresy and modi+) and a pair of HD6xx, do you think it would be worth it to upgrade the cans/ could my setup properly handle them? Great vid!
I have that setup with Sundara, it works perfectly. :)
so what are the key features to look out for if you want to purchase the latest revision ? and ensure that you are not buying old stock ?
I have nuraphones! Are these better sound quality of those? Im thinking of getting these paired with an ifi hip dac 2 portable amp
Hey Josh you heared from the new successors from AKG, Austrian Audio? They have a lot of new headphones out, i am curios what you think about them?
I've paired these with a Smsl Sanskrit Mkii dac (powered) and a Xduoo MT602 amp. To me they sound blood amazing. Listening to the Legend of Zelda Great Fairy Fountain from the 25th anniversary CD you can make out the instruments being shifted around.
I think that's more with how the track was recorded if anything. That piece is just amazing overall. Wish I knew where my cd went.
Sometimes you have to make subtle changes because of a supplier chain issue. The only way to prevent that is to be the producer of every single component and sub components which is nearly impossible.
Isn't this video misleading? The silent revision has been around for over a year. I clicked on this video thinking there's an update to last years revision so I'm still confused as to whether this is just a year late review.
Very clickbaity
Yeah, that should've been more clear. But I can almost guarantee this is a new revision as he has been talking about that last revision for a year...
@@TROONTRON He should clear that up though he doesn't respond much in the comments section. Lets see if DMS or Resolve puts out a video soon.
I bought mine about 3 months ago. The pads are slightly angled and very soft. Are these the ones hes talking about or is there yet another new revision?
I didn't feel like it was misleading. Hes just late to the party for reviewing the 2020 revision. Z did one not too long ago, I think...lol
Just bought the sundaras used and the ear pads are my more shallow on the front like on the video. I'm just trying to figure out, was the old revision completely even or was it more shallow on the front but less so? Trying to figure out what version I have.
Hey, Josh, I recently got a pair of HE400se's (based on your review and Crinacle's rating) and I absolutely love them. They're my first dip into "audiophile" territory but I need some advice and hoping you might be able to help!
Assuming you could get the Hifiman Sundara or XS for $200 off, so $150 and $300 respectively, and comfort was a heavily weighted factor (long term sessions and I wear thick glasses), what would you choose?
Which did you get I wear specs too
Could you review the Topping MX3?
Thanks so much Josh, I’ve been looking forward a 2nd set of cans to feel & sound more like speakers and I think this is it! The other pair are AudioTechnica M50-X’s
Can this headphone sound good (not too dry) paired with an RME ADi-2 DAC FS ( standalone ) ? Or it might sound a tad lifeless or I dunno ?
Hi, what you think about this headphone pair with topping dx3 pro+? is it will be to bright? thanks
You 're the best Joshua thanks for your revisions on Sundara and others headphones. My goal is to purchase the Sundara headphones, ciao Massimiliano from Italy! YEsterday on prime day on Amazon there's no offer about it :-(
i guess to make sure its the newest revision by through HiFiman's own homepage
if the 2020 revision is ok there is the Italian company www.playstereo.com/en/
my 2020 revision bought 2 months ago seem to have the same pads as those he is holding
@@Dovndyr13 Many thanks ! ciao
you were talking about the differences between the 400i and 400se and i loved it but where the video-comparisson attt??!? We're hungry for it. Feed us. Please?
Any input as far as these paired with the Hel 2 for PS5 audio?
Hi and thanks for the video, I am actually looking for a good no ANC headphone to use with a smartphone (a relatively dead headphone cause my last purchase momenutum 4 is hurting my ears a lot cause of ANC) i know this is not the same kind of product, but do you know if this can be plugged with USBC? I was also thinking of the deva pro, that I know for sure can be plugged with usbc. do u think its would be a good choice for what iam looking for? If you have any other product that you would advise me please do! Thanks again, keep it up!🎉🎉
Is there any way to tell whether these would sound better with my Scarlett 18i8, or if I run the Scarlett out to a Mackie HM-400 and listen through that?
Can't find much spec on the Scarlett... but the Mackie HM-400 says: 550 mW / channel @ 47ohms (+21 dBu)
I'm really clueless on all these numbers. I currently turn the headphone knob on the Scarlett up to 2 o'clock for a good listening volume, so there's headroom left, but, are they sounding their best with just that piece of gear..?
Great, but how can I recognize the new Sundara without opening the box?
Thank you! Love your “serious” review style…straight to the point. 👍
your dac/amp links don't seem to work, fyi ... great vid as always
What amp and DAC do you use for reviewing this headphone?
Just saw that there is a new Hifiman Sundara Silver Edition 2023 Revision. You gonna review those?
Hi, how is the combination of the sundara with the dragon fly cobalt?
now, how to tell the old sundara from the new one? apart from pads which you can't touch if you order online
If i have the he400se (china ver. No stealth magnets), will the sundara be a huge upgrade? Or shud i go higher in price and go for something else?
Hello Joshua. Would you clarify what is the headphones stands modeled on 3:37?
literally just received my pair today after long debating whether or not get these of Sennheiser's 660s or 58x
Good choice, I personally love Sundaras but i would love them even more if they had a slightly wider soundstage.
What would you sir say: classical music and pipe organ music on the hifiman sundara?
Using this beauty with Fiio K5 Pro, and its just phenomenal !!
Yooo same
Sameeee
I wonder if it sounds more like an he5xx now just curious.
How are they compared to the audio technica R70x? I own a pair and they are great
Any clue what a good beginner amp would be for listening to hip hop in the studio with these cans???
snagged these and an sr25 to replace my 10 year old ah-d2000’s. the sundara are fantastic for the money but so different than the denons. gotta keep both.
I am new to all that is connected to the headphones topic. Can you use wired headphones like Sundara only for listening to music on a phone or watching youtube/movies on computer without any additional equipment? Is it a good alternative to wireless headphones?
Josh do you hav info abt the cable it comes with and balanced or unbalanced?
How can you tell if you are buying the old sundara or newest sundara?
Is that Xtrfy MZ1 in the background?
Just got them its great
If you order this, how can you tell that you are getting the newest version?
I think these are probably good but only if you a) fit them well b) own a good amp like the k7 and balanced cables
Great to know, how would this compare to the Sennheiser HD560s (ignoring the cost difference), what headphone would you recommend if I do quite a bit of gaming (fps eSports) and quite a bit of analytical listening?
for gaming idk but when i tried both for music the sundaras pretty much took a massive shit on the hd560s. idk if something was wrong with the hd560s that i tried since most people say they sound similiar. but to me the hd560s sounded like a harsh unclear mess lol. the sundara definitely destroyed them
The Amazon link you provided is for the original version (which may no longer be available?) sold through a third party. Amazon does have a separate link to what they call the "2020 version" of the Sundara sold directly from HIFIMAN. Not sure you can still get the original style at this point (silent revision and all), but thought it should be mentioned.
Bump. curious which Amazon listing is actually the one Josh is talking about here.
Mine came in today in just a plain box similar to what Drop uses sometimes for their headphones mostly brown with a little strip that indicated it was Hifiman Sundara and no booklet and a QR scan box with warranty and a serial and if you follow them on Facebook an extra 6 months warranty no booklet though. I can't figure out which version I got. I bought mine from Newegg.
well well well. my first pair of sundara's are coming with the UPS guy today!
Wow! Will get one later this year as a planar counterpart to my 560s. I can't wait. Enjoy and let me know how you like it first impression 🔥
@@maxiclasher for sure! I'm a little worried that my Schiit Heresy will make it a little too bright and thin based on what I've read, but also some of those reviews are realllly looking hard for things so there's a good chance I'll hardly notice.
@@jldkrank naah I really don't think you're going to have any issues. These kind of differences are so small I'd bet you wont be able to tell a difference in a blind test (unless you go really high end)
@@jldkrank funny thing, I just got my Sundara two weeks ago and now am receiving the Heresy as well. Funny coincidence.
@@Lmaoeatrr how do you like the combination of the heresy and sundara?
I just got them a few days ago. This is the first pair of quality headphones I've purchased. I'm using them with the ifi iDSD Signature and they sound great, but being a noob, my frame of reference is limited.
As long as you're enjoying what you have, that's what's important.
what amp would you recommend to pair it? TIA.
Hi all, Would you recommend these over the verum1, roughly the same price. Or save my money and go for the hifiman 400se..
Cheers
Stop it Josh! I already got myself a pair of DT1990 Pro‘s originally. Then I absolutely stepped up my game and am now running a Topping D90 MQA/A90 Stack to drive a Sony MDR-Z1R. Buuuuut whenever you upload a video like this I become tempted to buy another pair of headphones😂
Please do review of the silent revision of Arya!
The amazon link of the headphones case is not working. Can you please update it?
Whoa.. Whoa...!!! And i finally bought some moondrop aria thanks to you 😁
How are they? I'm considering it
@@hazeemthariq7284 technically you will find a nozzle filters when you get this and they have important roles... Aria have two kind of sound with those filters
1. The metallic one you will get those airy soundstage, thin bass, clean mids, clear sparkling extended highs , technical signature sound
2. The mesh synthetic one you will get tight and extended bass, slightly recessed mids, not very spacy soundstage, and not very extended highs, Fun & dynamic signature sound
But that's only my opinion since audio perception is very different for everyone
I bought mine late 2020 and when I contacted Hifiman about a revision, they flat out denied there was a revision.
I am looking to buy this headphones, but how do make sure I buy the updated version?
P.S I am not very knowledgeable in headphones, I am open to suggestions.
I am looking to spend around $400 to $600 max if they are incredible value for your money..
My intended purpose is for general music listening, music production and mixing (rap, gospel, intrumental keyboard, and techno.) And maybe some gaming on Console.
I really want the Sundaras, but I am not fully sold out on them because they are not closed back headphones and not having noise cancelling. I heard the closed back and noise cancelling are better for music production and mixing that's why.
Any input is appreciated.
Thank you.
Would you please clarify what many are asking. There was a 2020 revision with pads. In this video you seem to indicate that they have been revised again. Please clarify are you talking about a 2021 revision or the old 2020 revision
There's only the og and 2020
Yup, I was thinking the same...
So now it's similar to an lcd2 but without the bass. Good value.
EQ it and it's a bass monster. And it does so without added distortion.
Can confirm. These have so much headroom in the bass department you can EQ. They will literally vibrate your skull without distorting if you EQ the bass right
@@David-gp3fd These cans have a modest rumble out the box, nothing massive, but you can definitely feel it in bass heavy music... So i can easily imagine it being a bass monster with some EQ, been trying to get a hold of a Schiit Loki Mini+ for my Modi and Magni stack, but the local businesses are currently out of them, and not ordering more apparently. : /
Are these good headphones for gaming compared to Beyerdynamic dt990 pro?
Do you use wireless earbuds and if you do, which one?
I bought mine a few months ago. Hope they are the latest version. I'm very pleased with them in any event.
What amplifier do you recommend with this headphone?
Yah i just bought one pair, the cable is bad but the heaphones are quality for the price, i got also a USB dac/amp the AIYIMA A5 PRO DAC + a bluetooth receiver SMSL B1, i would like to say that it's my first planar magnetic headphones
hi, can the dacmagic xs drive these well?
People are talking about a 20/21 revision, but there is only a 2019 revision right? I bought mine in november 2019 and I also have the angled pads and the material looks exactly the same as in the video.
Most of these improvements sound like they could be handled though some basic equalization. Am I wrong about that?
Note: I just purchased the older version, not knowing about the update -- Amazon didn't display one of those 'there is a newer version' blurbs -- and thought about returning and purchasing this version. But the updates seem a bit lame, and I like the pads on the 2017 version that I have.) Thanks.
Can you please do a review on the phiaton 900 legacy?
The only headphone that I bought without even trying in the first place... N it's brilliant
If I wanted to get some replacement pads for the Sundara, are there any options anyone would recommend?
