    One triathlon and you've already contracted crashitis. Next thing you're going to tell me that you can no longer take a bottle at feed station!

    Chapeau fella - that looked tough. Really felt for you dropping the bike - that's a nightmare - but kudos for finishing the race. Interesting to hear that you'd seen the turn late - I recently did exactly the same at the Belvoir Olympic. Luckily, I stayed on - but went about 1.5K in the wrong direction (with a hill and a cattle grid added for extra 'fun') before I realised. I have the utmost respect for anyone, who can fly through transition - I think I just don't have the coordination to be good at that. Would love to see you doing more multi-sport. Thanks for the video - really good watch.

    My Father-in-law did this triathlon in 2021 and 2022 at the age of 72/73! Unfortunately he picked up an injury for last year and wasn't able to do it this year.
    The NoPinz number belt was the first piece of tri specific clothing I bought back in 2015 time (I think) on my runner > triathlete > duathlete > cyclist journey!

    Chapeau, Alex! Great content & way to carry on despite coming a cropper in the TT. You mentioned having anxiety about bedsheets/sleeping, etc. Surely, you've got some Tegaderm in the medicine cabinet at home. That stuff really speeds up the healing process & reduces pain/sticky clothes/bedsheets. Hope you heal up quickly.

    I was concerned for the bike also. Thankfully it went down on the non-drive side cause replacing that Dura Ace stuff gets expensive.
    But all jokes aside it made for an interesting video, great job.

    Unfortunately I dnf’d last race (Windsor Tri) due to a lot of road rash and seven broken ribs. Occupational hazard of riding a bike it seems!🤣

    Love Croyde and Woolacoombe but absolutely brutal terrain and not brave enough to do a tri there. Mega effort

  • @Alan_Hans__
    @Alan_Hans__ Месяц назад

    Well done and I hope the gravel rash isn't too painful.
    I did a duathlon (bike and run legs of triathlon) a number of times starting when I was a number of years older than you and a lot less fit (and light). I had a ball each time I did it and 1 day I may do it again. No spills but 1 dnf as I went the wrong way on the run leg and after 5km of running on a 37C day I didn't have the oomph to complete the correct leg. As a non fan or cleats my transition from the cycle to run leg is heaps faster than nearly anyone. I would also hit the transition point at running speed on the bike as you can run comfortably in sneakers when dismounting.

    These things are mega nerve racking all the time… a big well done for doing it with all the expectation I’m sure you had within..
    I really feel your pain on the injuries - I can only empathise - it’s like road racing in some ways given how all over the place you always feel…. No matter the distance…
    Worth eating that gel before you swim then in the first 15 mins on the bike - set yourself up on the bike for gels so you run less with fuel esp for Olympic so you have fewer gi issues there…
    Transition wise (which you asked about)- prep is key - food in bag to clip on / shoes on pedals with elastic bands (even if you have bottles on the back) - always takes soooooo much practice and pre prep… when you get to your bike wetsuit off / helmet on with glasses / food clipped on / socks on (for me) then go… I always have a spare pair of socks in case one pair are sodden for the run…gels or the stryker cakes are awesome too
    On your socks have you tried danish endurance? Tri ply socks or at worst two ply really help… As a middle distance athlete I use them and they helped me with blisters.
    Olympics are always more intense but a really good challenge if you want to do 70.3s or Ironman
    Hope you enjoy your triathlon journey

      @@AlexDowsettOfficial Aren't Croyde roads narrow, twisty up and down short/ steep (I saw a water splash or two)? Suggested something lighter, nimbler would be better choice.

      @AlexDowsettOfficial  Месяц назад

      Hear what you say, I do disagree to be honest, my experience has been that the front wheel is wholeheartedly responsible for handling, I’d always take the 300g weight penalty for the aero gain, there was an abundance of high speed sections, appreciate the feedback though

    • @haucks
      @haucks Месяц назад

      @@AlexDowsettOfficial Yeah, Alex is spot on. The only triathlon I wouldn't use a disc wheel is one that goes up a mountain, like the Alpe de Huez triathlon. You will get a huge benefit using a disc during any tri where you are riding most of the course faster than 22-23 mph. I am assuming he was going MUCH faster than that.
