This is so cool. I was playing around with the C major scale the other day and just playing across the board and it sounds decent. Being a beginner I would not have thought you could actually do that with the chord so now more to play around with.
Well, the algorithm is working in your favor sort of because I got this in my feed without knowing you made a new channel. Gotta say, I love these instructional videos with live demos. I'm self taught (literally brute forced my way through a song until i could play it 6 months later), so I unfortunately skipped a lot of music theory and proper technique. I love having it simplified in this form as it teaches me some new tricks and also gives me the proper names and structure to the knowledge I already inherently had.
I'm genuinely so excited for this. Idk how likely I am to subscribe to the site right now but I will be using these videos to improve, and I hope to show you what I'm working on one day :D

Love this! The problem I have with simple triads is that there is so many ways we can play them that it just feels massively overwhelming! Is there any guidance to common voicing's we should prioritise over others? If I saw Cmaj on a lead sheet I'd feel well overwhelmed thinking "Should I play it spread out, invert, or shell voicing's, etc.?" before I've answered that the chord has passed and I'm struggling to hit the next one haha!
In the gospel keyboard community, that voicing is commonly called the “drop 2” simple voicing that takes the second highest note in the chord and drop it an octave lower. Easy way to get a fuller/cleaner sound without really doing anything extra. You can also use it to harmonize scales and voice lead etc. Simple but powerful! charles could you make a roadmap video where you explain the process for a beginner to become a real piano player? by real piano player i mean someone who can improvise of chords and melodies (like play off the real book or smth idk)

At 4:35 I dont understand why you said it wasnt a triad anymore because it is. A triad is defined by any chord that consists of 3 notes played simultaneously, regardless of their octaves.

This is really a good tutorial for fresh beginners! From here on, you can go play around with as many chords as you like in the future. Add arpeggios and double root notes et voila.
I don’t know why and probably because I’m not that experienced in music theory I’ve only been in my schools band class for 2 years but the low chord at sounds somewhat like a minor chord.. or at least more “depressing” than the normal c major chord. is that just me?

Great video! I struggle with creating original chords when I'm improvising or reading chords. Helped me learn how to make more fully sounding chords!

My question with chords is how to find good passing chords. So let say you have G - D - C - G, what chords can fit between to make it more interesting

Literally just add more notes and then break those notes up. And, boom! You're playing the piano!
