*Great product. **enjoyable.fishing** recommend I have never used a baitcaster before and did a lot of research before buying this one. I bought it with the Torrent casting rod as well and it works very nice.*

For everybody inquiring about WD-40. It is not a lubricant. WD stands for water displacement. It will prevent ice from building up on your reel and eyelets of your rod but I wouldn't use it to lubricate your reel while cleaning or performing reel maintenance. Also never use cotton swabs on the worm gear. Use foam tipped swaps instead. Fish on!

I'm left handed and use a right handed baitcaster. My first baitcaster I was gonna get left handed but when I tried it out @ the store it didn't feel right. I tried the right handed reel and it felt much better. I still use a left handed spinning rod though for some reason.

When you do break down your reels completely, make a video on it. I do it often with my Abu Garcia Revos once every 6 months or so. It's hard to do it for the first time with no directions but I managed to learn. A video on how to do it with a Lew's reel would be beneficial to those trying to do it for the first time. I would like to know as well as I am going to be purchasing a Lew's reel soon. Thank you love the videos!!

I never had any luck with baitcasters. I just look at them and they will bird nest on me.
I have much better luck with spin casters. Maybe you can make a video on properly adjusting the brake for a good cast without birdnesting?

    • @cdoggy1012
      @cdoggy1012 8 лет назад +4

You've probably already got your answer, but the best way to start is tighten your brake all the way and to be extra safe to get no backlash put a piece of tape on your spool after you take out about 100 yards that way it will only backlash to that piece of tape. I got that from a guy on RUclips and it helped a ton. After every few cast loosen the brake just a touch every time.

Hey, Perry! I am 59 years old. Never used a baitcaster reel before this year. Only used spin casters reels. My friend bought me a Quantum Pulse Bait caster reel. It took about 3 casts before I learned how to thumb the reel. It has 14 adjustments on the left side of the reel. Put it on 10 to start. Put your lure on adjust the small knob on the right side push the button and let the lure drop a gravity speed to the ground. Reel lure back up then push the button again. If the lure drops at gravity speed again. Your set. Adjust the star drag. Then throw the lure side arm easy until you get the thumb on the reel down pat. Later you can turn the dial down to 8. Watch throwing into the wind. When windy turn the dial back up. Not to back lash! Keep trying. If you do back lash. Keep thumb on reel an pick at line and pull until the back lash is solved. Good luck. Shawn

I just gummed up my new revo with them oil it's thin syrup don't use it in a reel use 3in1 or Fri flow I think someone vandalizing fishing products at Wal Mart is squirting sand or syrup in reels for fun so when you work the functions a little bit it works into all the parts we have degenerates where I. Am who do stuff like that . I tried one revo on the shelf and it was gravel like action like and amd processor compared to an Intel model then I tried one that was buttery smooth the last one left and it was buttery smooth then I bought it and it seemed to him up after I did the functions a few times then Tim pil was like putting molasses in it the plastic had been pulled off the handle and other stuff pulled loose morons go through the sporting goods sections at my Wal Mart unscrewing reels from reel seats and pulling stickers and tags off they had to put gAme monitors and other from display to behind counter from product vadalysm I'm afraid to buy another off shelf . Do you know if that shit could be safely flushed out using Birchwood Casey plastic safe gun apart solvent?it usually marks plastic and maybe graphite I'm afraid it would also flush the grease out if the parts plastic gears inside the right side of the reel crank handle side I don't want to take. Apart .bit I know andproved rem oil is syrup it's shit clp or triple action spray gun lubes will loosen stuff up the equivalent of 40years of wear tools anything it will loosen up lie that the best lube us tri flow it's rarely cheap on eBay it's a bycicle lube that soldiers had to have sent to Viet nam in care packages it was the only lube that the crummy original m16s would run in in that environment. .input it in the oils hole of Shimano bantams in the 1980s and never had a problem tri flow 3in1 and Abu garlic smelling oil are good I never tried Shimano reel oil or other oil brands reel butter will draw debris like a halogen work light draws bugs

Don't use a cotton swab people. Foam tip swabs are what you need. Those cotton fibers get into your bearings and worm gear. Don't use 3-in-1 oil either lol. Use proper lube or electronics oil like for sewing machines. Get a 10mm wrench or socket and forget the adjustable wrench. Just my input.

    • @SavageVoyageur

They use cotton swabs to clean internal reel parts right at the Shimano reel repair center. There is zero problems using q-tips.

@@SavageVoyageur What Shimano reel repair center? An authorized repair center you mean? If an employee/owner is doing that you need to find another service center. Shimano specifically states using fiber tipped cleaning swabs as a reason to void your warranty. I've serviced 100's of reels in my life and I'm certified with 3 manufacturers.

Q tips on the worm gear seems like a bad idea . So many fibers left behind, like ultra fine hair flowing through the gear . It shitty how low profile reels need to be 90% dismantled to pull out the worm gear

Early in the video you mention using grease. You should be using a light machine oil instead. Grease adds a lot of friction, it has a high viscosity. You don't grease bearings (fishing or otherwise), you oil them. Grease and oil are not interchangeable, they don't do the same thing.

This video is full of bad advice that will hurt performance of a reel....you dont add anything to the spool shaft, you want it clean but dont add oil ever. You dont just squirt oil onto bearings either. Doing so will dramatically lessen the free spool of a reel. A spool bearing needa to be soaked and flushed, and a single tiny drop of oil added.. You mentioned worm gears going bad on you, its probably from running a stick with cotton on the end of it along metal teeth. Dont use Q tips....the fibers will stick to the oil or grease on your reel and even if small, contribute to wear and tear...Little foam Q tips like comes in ardents reel kit are fine.
Just dont want people steered wrong. Either learn the right way to service a reel or leave it alone and let someone that knows what theyre doing have at it...Baitcasters are easy to work on once you get it.

Josho8327 your so right. LOL y’all can and should look it up but it’s truly the wrong way to do it. Also the amount of oil he used is really crazy.

I feel like Flair fishes more than, has likely owned more reels than, and has probably been fishing longer than the majority of people. Sure you can get extremely pedantic and technical in your cleaning methodology with just about anything, but that does not mean that you are entirely correct. It also does not make his method incorrect. The way he cleans his reels clearly works else he of all people would have discovered any issues it causes during the innumerable casts he has made. People should learn to quit being snobs in regards to whatever subject matter of which they feel that they are an expert, and instead try to appreciate that someone like Flair is trying to share the knowledge he has obtained by years of experience as apposed to simply having read it somewhere on the Internet.
