- "Rise" is a song written by Andy Armer and Randy Badazz Alpert, and first recorded by trumpeter Herb Alpert. The instrumental track was included on Alpert's solo album "Rise" and released as a single in 1979. It reached number one on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 in October of that year and remained in the top position for two weeks. Herb Alpert thus became the first (and only) artist to reach the top of the Hot 100 with a vocal performance ("This Guy's in Love with You", 1968) as well as an instrumental performance. "Rise" also spent one week atop the adult contemporary chart. "Rise" was successful on the other charts, peaking at number four on the R&B chart and number seventeen on the dance chart. The recording also received a Grammy Award for Best Pop Instrumental Performance. Songwriters Andy Armer and Randy Badazz Alpert were both nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Instrumental Composition. The single, "Rise" has sold more then a million copies.

Who's watching and listening in 2024?
All the time!
I am !
Absolutely
It's last week of April 2024 I was in Uber car yesterday old lady played this master piece on her car Lcd I heard this first time in my life I really like that and the lady was humming and enjoying this music 😊😊😊
never stops!
Last month, my grandfather passed away. His request for his funeral: "play my two favorite songs, Heaven by Bebe and CeCe Winans and Rise by Herb Alpert." And that's exactly what we gave him! Rest in Heaven, Grandaddy!!!!!
Excellent choice for your Grandaddy, I'm sure he had a smile on his face for you.
Never will I tire of this song. love it now. will love it in the future. who's for this 2024 😁🙌
This track only gets better with time.
Been listening from Day One and will be ,forever
There is nothing out there in today's world that compare to this music. Real music.❤ from Dublin Ire.
Looove this❤
I still have my brother’s Herb Albert & Tiajuana albums too! You are so right! This song is timeless!🤗❤️
That's why God gave us trumpets.
That’s why Hod will announce His return by an Angel blowing the Almighty horn of the Great Judgment!
This never dates. An all time classic.
All his songs are timeless🙈🙈🫶🏼
Good song. I remember hearing this song with my grandparents in their car in the early 80s. I miss them. RIP.
This is for all my Detroit players in 2024... R. I. P. Biggie
FUN FACT: The lady Herb is dancing with and is mesmorized by ..is his wife! They celebrated their 50 year anniversary this year 2023. ❤️🥰
Nice couple. 😊😊😊
Love the magic moment this video production created among the crew. I'm turning 67 on May and still love this theme.
That guy is still in love with her❤❤❤
@@cinemaparadiso1991right? It’s so evident by the way he looks at her in this video.
@@tamlynn786 Yes it is! I was thinking about his song This Guy Is In Love. The lyrics, the feeling, the subtle brass accompaniment is everything. And FINE!❤️❤️❤️. She really hit the jackpot.
I'm 58 now in 2024 I've always liked this when I heard it on the car AM radio as a child , great memories 😊
Me too!
59. This song by chance played a lot on my clock radio when the alarm went off in the morning. This will always remind me of getting up for school in jr high.
Same impact on me also! First remember hearing this song riding in my dad’s car late at night as our family was driving back home to Michigan from Ohio. My grandfather had passed and we were in Ohio all week for his funeral. First real experience for me losing someone I cared about and understanding it as I was nine years old at the time. Hearing this song always reminded me of my grandfather and also my dad because I knew how sad he was to lose his father. Amazing how music connects us to life.
Me too ... I am 58 and have the same memories
I would crank up the stereo, in the car, and move to the groove.. What a life I have had.. 68 years old, an I still am moved..
Right On
I'm also 68 and I had the same feeling listening to Rise in a vynil record in a loud volume. Herbie cries out loud playing the trumpet. And the band is something else, specially the guy in the base.
I’m 71. We didn’t know how lucky we were to be born when we were.

This song is HYPNOTIZING ;)
Hahhaha I see what you did there buddy 👌

Congratulations on winning the comment section
my dad was a huge herb Alpert fan , from the sixties . r.i.p dad I love you.
Not just a great musician, but a great philanthropist. Over the years Alpert's foundation has given away 200 million dollars to help communities and families in need and to fund music education.❤
I am 58 2004 , this song all you need to do is close your eyes , hi volume and it will place you anywhere you want with whoever you want . Best instrumental ever .
Yes❤
One of my favorite songs in the whole world!!!! Been listening to this song since 1980!!!!
“General Hospital” Luke and Laura theme song?
Tbm...❤
I’m so glad I went through my grandpas records thanks grandpa for the great introduction to music
Picture this.. I was a trainee chef hired to work at a summer BBQ for a wealthy host at a farm in Cheshire, it was a hot summers day and Rise was played a few times during the course of the day, I can still smell the food, see the faces of the guests as they danced, a beautiful memory made more special every time I hear this ❤
This is gorgeous. Thanks Dad. I'm still listening in 2024 🙏 my dad loved his music. Great taste!
Same. Reminds me of my father
Me too with my Pops.He was a deejay then from midnight to 6am.I thank him everyday for his musical taste❤
My dad loved Herbie too. ❤
So did my Mom. Herb Alpert & the Tijuana Brass. Still adore him because of her....
it was cool 45 years ago, it's cool today, and still will be in 2069
People in the 60s and 70s have so much passion .❤❤❤Im so fortunate to be a Generation x I was there when this cool music came out
Yes! I’m 48 and fortunate to have grown up with this kind of music! We are the last of a dying breed.
@@tamlynn786I can't stand to think about it I really can't I'm 62 and you're right we are a Dying Breed and don't know if they'll ever be any more of us I don't think so
I hear you on this. I was just entering my teenage years when this came out. Memories.
@@vivianlunsford4052yes music has lost that magic touch! It’s so empty. We are fortunate to be in that era when people expressed the deeper meanings of life through music.
Beyond amazing tune…brings a lot of nostalgia! I was born in ‘81 and this was released in ‘79. the funk and rythm are incredible!!
The art of rap sampling has brought me to some truly excellent music. I'm so grateful to all the producers that keep great music relevant.
One of the best instrumentals in human history.
❤
Agree. Love it!
What they said.
I enjoy it very much.
However anyone who is familiar with Kind of Blue (Miles Davis quintet) might disagree

I'm still listening to this 45 years later. Thankful for my Father for introducing me to Herb Alpert's music when I was a teen.
I have been listening to Herb since I was a little girl listening to my brothers records. In love with the music and with him….a beautiful man!!!❤
Herb Alpert understood what too few musicians do these days imo- that not all music needs words. Words are superfluous when you create music this beautiful. God bless him & his talent.
I cant even talk because of my tears just hearing this. So many lifetime memories !! BEAUTIFUL !!
I’m 48 yrs old and I sure remember this when I was in 1st grade 🎶💃💯❤️
It played on General Hospital
Yeah, when Luke raped Laura🙄
My husband and I met in '79!♥️
It´s me!
Herb was so handsome at this time and most of all so talented. He is now 88 years old and still a handsome man and beautiful wife from, Sergio Mendes and Brasil 66. She sings beautifully.
Magic already happened in that era.
And we enjoy via RUclips today.
Hatts off. Hand down !!

Those years when people enjoy life but really enjoy life
When musicians were great and first class human beings. Herb Albert the most humble billionaire in history.
Still Rise in 2024.
We're so happy you're still alive and well at 88 soon 89 years old and still follow your passion for music and playing your trumpet, you given so much musical magic and joy brightening up this world. Every time I feel not too good I put on "Rise" and after I suddenly feel better, it brings back joy to my precious heart. Thank you so much, I'm forever grateful, God bless you. From Norway with love.
God bless you, you have the vibe
Love your precious heart♥️
Brings back so many memories........❤❤❤
Love that opening bass line leading to the horn solo. The opening is bouncy and warm, but the horn is melancholy to start then leads to an upbeat feeling of hope. And then it doubles back to the bass line.Pure magic by Herb Albert.
Totally Classic. This reminds me of my childhood in 70s with my dad and mom would play this on our BBQ partys. Great memories.
A masterpiece instrumental music along with him dancing 💃 with that special woman in his life and the way she looks at him, priceless
Herb's wife, Lani Hall, was lead vocalist with Sergio Mendes & Brasil '66.
Thanks for that info
I want to believe that kind of love still exists in today’s world
My Mother died on May 18th, '79; I remember distinctly one day driving from the cemetery in a daze on the freeway back to Manhattan & having the radio on & this song woke me up as it was playing on the radio! I remember this day like this was yesterday!
In 1980 I bought {2} albino cockatiels I named them ' Rise ' ♡♡♡ &

This one of the greatest jazz song ever played
I love this video herb looks the double of my dad who passed away a few years ago it's like watching my dad over and over ! ❤❤❤❤🙏🙏🙏🙏
Best instrumental EVER 😘🥰🤗✌🏼
This is one of those songs that the music actually sounds like it’s telling a story from start to end.
You expressed your thoughts so well. What you said is very true.
Absolutely, incomparable
There is nothing I dislike about this song or video. And, it’s from my birth year!
Excelentes todas sus melodías de Herb Alpert, honor a quien honor merece, un saludo desde la ciudad de México
This song was such a success on varied charts! ALMOST EVERYONE loved THIS one! It's timeless! Loving it in 2023!
62 and he never gets old. Mom and dad loved Herb l, Mom passed 2021.
63 and ditto! Lots of memories
Im sorry to hear about your mom
Sorry for your loss 🙏. May your mom rest in paradise 🕊️
Same. I'm 62 and dad passed in 2021, mom 2023. Herb was always being played in our house (along with Sergio Mendes and Brasil '66).
In my life there is always more or less the same amount of happiness as there is restlessness, more or less like this song that doesn't even have lyrics but doesn't need it either.
I remember my Dad listening to Herb Albert when I was a little girl. RIP Dad. I love you
Tijuanna Brass on his Sears console stereo....@ our house....
Very sweet memory. I bet your father was a good man. God bless you

This has to be one of the best instrumentals of all time. I love Herb Alpert's music. Music this good isn't made anymore.
Common scene from the late 70's / early 80's -- see a guy playing trumpet on the beach, pick him up, follow him around boogieing -- happened all the time!
Listen all the time. All year. 3-16-2024

Thank you Herb for such a great song 🎵 that trumpet magnificent 👏 🙌 🙏

70’s gold right here. For those of us who grew up with this stuff we were so lucky.
OMG, this song was the best when I was a teenager. Still today I listen to this, and I actually workout to this in the gym.
The bass line is a great complement to his horn. What a great song.
Eppaaaa for people as gifted as Alpert. You have made a lot of ppl happy inside 🎉
Feel for the young and their blasting music. They have no idea. They need to hear more of this
My mate and I were driving in California that year and this was constantly on the radio. My mate died last month and I dedicate this to him. Rise brother

One of the greatest instrumental songs ever produced in the whole life
True
The Luke and Laura song. 😂😂😂😂 Timeless piece. Never grows old! ❤❤❤
Laura's Rape Song. And yes, this is how I asked for the 45 at Montgomery Ward. And the salesgirl knew exactly what I wanted lol
She recently said she wished she had not done that scene and storyline. All I can say is that it was a product of its time, for better, or worse.
A few years ago I googled Luke and Laura's rape song and I couldn't find anything that came up. As far as humans have come in 2023 I am so glad that I grew up in the 80's. Imagine being bullied online or having people take pictures of every damn thing you do in life? If this rape had occurred in 2023 no doubt there would have been pictures all over the internet and not just a song.
@@stogiedad1Luke and Laura were the hottest couple in daytime at the time. Their wedding was the most watched in daytime history and number 2 in 1981 after Charles and Diana!!!!
Still listening to the genius playing that horn, hells bells who needs lyrics with his kind of talent? NOBODY!?! Mr. Alpert keep rocking it n we'll keep listening.
Being born in the 70s, this song reminds me of my childhood and gives me butterflies like a crush.
I ageee 100% with you this song reminds me of my childhood.
This song would come on in middle of the night, every night on my Grandmother's clock radio. She would keep the blinds and curtains up so i can stare at the stars with this song as a toddler in the 70s.
RIP Ester Mae Thank You!🌹
Oh sooo cool new years eve 2021
Being born in the 50's makes me think that this is real music. Nothing past '90 resembles music to me. Generic hogwash.
Yes! Same. Butterflies, romance, nostalgia -
Love Herb Albert....n The Tijuana Brass...they are great in my books...
Not only is he a great musician, he was gorgeous 😍😍😍
Drop dead gorgeous seems applicable.
Richard Rudolph, The late great Minnie Riperton husband. He and Herb Alpert could have passed for brothers.
This sing gives the sound of a time passed by, in 1979, and I can feel Hollywood and all the restaurants and pools where people drink and hoped for a better futere, that never came, but nevetheless living in the precious moment. Where did you find that beautiful tune Herb Albert? In a dream? Anyways, you make this world a much better place, I love you!
I remember getting ready for school . The radio was on. The sun was rising. I was a freshman in high school in 1976. This song came on. I watched the sun rise to this song. I have loved this type of music since then. It is absolutely magical.
It was 1979
Ok..
But comment is great.. BOY GOING Happy to school followed by fascinating rhythm which marked our lives. That's the points, not 3 yrs up or down

Herb Alpert is a certified legend! Loved his music as a kid and Rise is a classic twice, the original and the section starting at 3:12 that became the beat for Hypnotize by the Notorious BIG. His music transcends generations.
It’s so crazy because I never realized that this song was sampled by Notorious BIG as a teen!! I was just listening to Hynoptize a week ago, and then last night I watched Spiderhead and it finally clicked in my ears when the song played in the movie!!
as a musician, I can truly appreciate other musicians who actually write and compose their own, original music, not "borrowing" others,
@@markgood9453 and as a musician herb can appreciate the money he got from 20 seconds of a song he wrote
