I quit smoking cigarettes a few months ago and I did it by the Willie Nelson method. I pretty much just smoke crazy amounts of weed and barely put down my guitar. Crazy to say, but this is the most complex thing I've tried to learn, and after a couple days of practice I've got this intro down mostly mistake free. Gotta say, these videos are magnificent. I don't know why they don't have millions of views. This Hill Country stuff is so badass, and Junior did it so casually like blues was just an instinct, a part of him, like blues was just another bone in his body. I've always been fascinated by musicians like him, and I can't believe I'm just leaning about the Hill Country style now, but I can't wait to dive into more. Thank you so much for these videos.
From what I can tell junior didn't start recording his music until well in the twilight of his life. He spent years playing what he wanted to and became a master of his area. We are playing the long game friend
What was it that led you to start making Hill Country/Cotton Patch blues lessons? It's such a unique style of guitar playing that not very many people I know listen to. You are one of onlyma handful of people helping us learn this stuff and you are so greatly appreciated man. I can't thank you enough.
What a great lesson, loved this song for a long time and always wanted to learn but never found a decent tab/lesson until now… I’d encourage anyone struggling to keep the bass going with your thumb whilst playing the melody independently with fingers to persevere as it will get easier with practice, and the end result is incredibly satisfying. Nailing down the rhythm and melody separately rather than trying to learn both at the same time helped me a lot. Cheers for the video, it’s a belter.
What a great track. Listened to blues all my life and the hill country stuff has become an addiction. Its so fun to play. Only thing similar I used to listen to was John Lee hooker with his one chord boogie. Thanks for the in depth lesson. I've lost the track structure after half a minute when I play it but still end up playing it forever anyway. Most jammable style ever!
I'm a long time fan of blues with a special emphasis on fingerpicking artists such a Scrapper Blackwell and Junior Kimbrough.. Its hard to find lessons that are explained as well as this. Thank you for this and everything you do!
Dude, thank you for your lessons. I've been obsessed with this song, got the covid a month ago and basically played my way through it. I have never seen such clear and easy to follow lessons for this style of music. Been having tons of fun. Keep up the good work, greetings from Finland.
This one that Stud Ford (T-Model Ford’s drummer and grandson) & I perform, which Stud was taught this song from Robert Kimbrough . For the fact that it’s such a slow drone, it always gets the crowd going.
The thing about this kind of music is that if the thumb is not thinking for itself, it hard as heck to play. I tried this lesson and got frustrated. After a couple months of working on the thumb it's much easier. There's some good thumb exercises on this channel and others that I'd make a priority.
I’m new here and new to tab and playing other players songs. Could you please put the tuning as the very first bit of information? It would help so much. I’ve watched a lot of your videos and I’m guessing that if you don’t specifically say that it’s open G or D that it’s standard, but an affirmation of this would be really helpful to us newbs. Thanks a lot.
Ha! I came to RUclips to check out Scrapper Blackwell as someone on a Facebook page I'm on found an old album. I saw your tutorial on Scrapper so I made a detour and then stumbled across this Junior Kimbrough lesson! Noice.
Such a great lesson, thank you! Question....it sounds the same and seems easier, can you do the intro starting on the B string of the 7th fret and then the 5th, and going from there? I'm a serious amateur so prob a silly question but wanted to check. Thanks!
Yea anytime you find an easier way its usually okay! But you should still work on getting the "long A" chord since itll come up again in similar songs. But its okay to change it to make it easier for now. Thanks for watching and commenting!

P.s tapping your foot might help. You’ll probably find it tapping when you’re playing this tune anyhow

awesome lesson - little miffed that I can't barre the second fret very well - so there's today's project... (at least the next hour)
Thanks so much- Keep it up and you'll get it! Thats one of those things that takes time to get. Good luck!
