i never understood what the uproar was about with "oh they just ran off with the money" I understand that the backer updates don't exactly give much in the way of details but if progress updates were what you wanted, phantomarcade, the face of the dev team at this point constantly streams him working on the game and talking about how it's coming along the fact that you are able to go to one of his streams and straight up ask how the game is coming along is a lot better than a backer update, but i guess i'm the only person who sees it that way
I feel the exact same way. People act like they went completely radio silent when that is just not true. Sorry they didn't write out personalized emails giving you every single detail about development down to what they ate for lunch each day but the information was out there. That being said, I do somewhat understand the anger and I'm glad that it seems they are now making it a point to really be more transparent with things like the back end, dev blog, and the official Twitter account for the game

Don't forget that they also have an ENTIRE game to make. They didn't deliver it now but that doesn't mean it will never come. Eh, this is what mods are for. There's a million and one BF reanimated and GF reanimated mods. Besides, I like the current sprites. They're classics. And *besides* besides, the erect remixes in the final version are apparently gonna have new sprites and everything anyways, so I can see how it'd be a bit of a time-waste to re-do them.
they could have a skin select which like lets you choose between the erect and normal sprites, it would save phantom a lot of work, people would still get pissy and bitch regardless on how much effort he puts in due people being people. But i think it'd be neat that if someone wanted a different sprite for bf that they could choose, that way if you like the iconic style you can keep it like that

Someone already said this but I feel like I wouldn't mind if they change the skins or not, of course it feels old because of the mods, they've been used so many times making it seem overused, they came from the base game and they should stay in the base game
Personally, I believe it's less of a matter of making it "look prettier" and more of making him more consistent with the surrounding characters. Darnell and BF are clearly on a different level of quality in the way they are drawn, and it's rather obvious if you compare them side-by-side. Additionally, a lot of the separate frames the BF sprite transitions to along with the way he's drawn generally looks jarringly different compared to his appearance in the sprites. Along with this, the sprite for BF was ridiculously rushed: it was for a game jam with major time constraints. And if you look closely (I recommend doing this with the .fla), you can see several errors and inconsistencies: there's even a portion of his shoe that isn't colored at all: it's just transparent. I understand the need to prioritize future content, but I believe it might be beneficial for BF to get a few tweaks with his sprite. An overhaul would likely be far too drastic when there's so many other stuff that needs managing. Also I feel he's really the only sprite that could use tweaking, everything else looks good.

Also, as of the recent update, we can see that they're able to make the old art fit in with the new art, I mean Pico looks slightly outdated compared to Darnell and Nene, but he still fits in. Another example would be some of Boyfriend's new sprites, like the "yeah" in Spookeez, the results screen or even the freeplay animations. Even if the FNF artstyle has slighty changed a couple of things in these last 4 years, it's still the same style at core.
I think what PA's trying to say is that by allowing himself to revamp already-finished assets, he'd be putting too much time into trying to "perfect" what already exists instead of putting new content out there. If he wanted to polish (or even remake) the existing BF or GF sprites once, it wouldn't take terribly long. However, keeping EVERYTHING up to increasing standards, updating them to include changes to PA's style/designs, AND adding new content would be too much to do within a reasonable timeframe.
Well, considering that the sprites get progressively different as the weeks go by (Christmas outfits in week 5, 16-bit style on week 6 and Boyfriend carrying Girlfriend in the last song of week 7), it is understandable that they'd want to keep the old ones.
I think it's a perfectly reasonable decision on PA's part to keep things as they are for the time being. As they say, "If it isn't broken, then don't fix it," and his reasoning from the standpoint of a game dev is perfectly understandable. Besides, much of FNF's appeal is in how it can be modified. If people want to play the game with "updated" or "remade" assets, there's an entire modding community ready and willing to put their own versions out there to replace what exists until new official sprites are released.
