Your comments about a mk1 escort brought back some bitter sweet memories. It was my first car and like you say most young lads spent their spare time applying body filler to various bits of body work. I also spent many hours painting on underseal to a few vehicles. The trailer is really coming along nicely, I'm sure it'll look great when it's finnished.
you should have welded plates on
P38 is for filling small holes. P40 is for filling large holes

Richard I do remember putting body bondo on cars growing up had to impress your friends lol.
Don't bother painting the underneath of the trailer , just spray it with old engine oil every year . That's what we used to do to stop our machinery rusting on our coastal farm , [salt air is very corrosive and will cause rust under poor quality paint ].

Great video Richard. Here’s maybe a idea for you perhaps. Why not put the trailer through it paces and run it along side the forager just for one load on the maize harvest.? She how she stands upto it.? 👍
The spreader isn't for digging and mixing the product. That's what popsicle sticks are for.
oh yeah, use a knife big enough for the job. Maybe 4 to 6 inches in width.
Should have stuffed the holes with newspaper before you filled them, most of the cars I've bought were filled like that lol.

Piece of cardboard for leveling is easy and neat .I would sprayed fish oil in before filling would stop re rusting

should have used P40 the fiber glass version on the large areas or the body shop trick scrunch up news paper and pack out the bigger areas ten P38 on top.
You used take magnet when buying a old car to check if car was more filler than thriller
It's a shame there wasn't enough to fill that bit at the end but maybe another day? Once the bit's you've done are sanded it will look great and it was a good idea filling them to stop any water ending up in there behind the bit's you got welded and starting rust off again. The trailer is coming along nicely :)

Blast it back....Weld new plate on it. Blast again and paint. Painting over rust is a bad idea unless you've got rid of it all.
In the ideal world of something expensive thats the answer, an old farm trailer that probably cost less than a 1000 to buy and is going to haul cow manure spending loads of money on it's a bit of a waist. thats why he's doing it this way, if he's going to spend lots of money on it he might as well of gone and got a new or better used one.
I work fixing this older stuff for my workshop customers, and repair my own farm equipment to sometimes you do it as cheap as possible to get what the customer wants to spend or scrap the machine and get another one like happened with a couple tractors guys had round here a few years ago, that started turning into bottom less money pits .

You're supposed to mix it in the metal bowl you took out so you can see how much you have to work with. Apply a thin layer, sand, apply, sand etc. P40 would have been better for that job

The more hardener you use the quicker it sets but there's a point where too much makes it brittle
I’ll give it a fortnight before the bog falls out, I’d have dressed the hole first mate...
