PSP simple ? Bro, I was lucky to never have that screen show up in the nearly 10 years I've played my PSP. If I started it up and all of a sudden got that bright red screen filled with caracters from tons of language I may have shited my pants ! The French text is pretty direct and scary "une erreur grave", like it was a nuclear power plant about to explode...
As a kid, my old PS2 didn't like to read disc's very well, even less so on some of my more scratched PS1 games, so the RSoD was common but it still scared the crap out of me. It got to a point where I could tell if it'd be a RSoD by the lower pitch of the start-up whoosh and I would panic like "NOPE NOPE NOPE" and scranble to turn it off lol
The ps1 one scares me the most. It gives me the same vibes as the Emergency alert system, where it’s just text on a coloured background, with no audio. It’s just really eerie to me
Am I the only one that finds the PS2 screen to be the least menacing? The background actually looks pretty cool, and the “Please insert a disc” message is much more reasonable and comforting than a straight up error message. In my opinion, PS3 is the most menacing and unnerving. It comes out of nowhere, it doesn’t look like the typical PS3 UI, most of the stuff is in a different language, and there’s no sound to accompany it, making it a lot more creepy than the PS2. PSP red screen doesn’t quite make it due to it being a handheld and the creepiness only takes up a small screen rather than a whole TV. And the PS1’s suddenness and eeriness makes it creepier than the PS2’s screen in my opinion.
I remember I was too scared of the RSoD of the PS2 (and maybe I still am) that every time I booted up the console I just changed channel on my TV waiting for the analog light to turn on. It always worked except for two times: the first happened while I was playing for the first time Crash Mind over mutant, I remember Crash walking all by himself, he fell and died and then, outta nowhere, the RSoD came out, it just freaked me out. The second time, the analog light turned on, but by going in the PS2 channel I found that static color screen that yelled at me *BEEEEP* like it was exploding! MOM PICK ME UP I'M SCARED
I remember sitting in front of my tv with all the lights off at 3am with a *barely functioning* ps2 and that *stupid red screen* scaring the hell out of me
Same....Lived in darlington for a bit, had a PS2 and was playing Mortal Kombat Armageddon, I turned on the console and my room went red...I felt like i opened the gates hell 😰
It makes me sad how underappreciated and forgotten the power of evil, agony and suffering of the ps1 death screen is. It's not pitty towards the ps1 itself, it's the victims of it, and the traumas that they'll encounter till their last dying breath...and no one will ever know about it...
Wanna know what’s scarier? Getting that message IN the game. When it happened to me, I just wanted to snap the disc in half!

there's something about the PS1 that makes it feel creepy. imagine you, a young child minding his own business and playing games alone in his dark bedroom. then suddenly a popup appears with a red appearance. then calling your parents to ask if you could sleep with them because you now have nightmares
For some reason the PS2 I have will not give me the RSoD when I put in a damaged/dirty or incorrect disc. It just takes me to the menu... it might be because if the model I have.

And I remember my dad saying ‘It’s not real, relax’. But I couldn’t stop thinking about it, I probably had nightmares for a week. That was probably the first time I truly experienced fear. But now that I’m older, it’s actually pretty cool to see, although it still jumpscares me because of the memories, and every time I see it, I wonder if Sony intended the error screen to be scary.
I would like to say that the playstation 3's red screen of death is NOT caused by an unreadable/pirated disc.
