  • Shimano's LinkGlide 9-Speed cassette is their e-bike and trail focused cassette. In this video, I'm going to measure the cog pitch and cog thickness of this cassette. Then, I'm going to show you that Linkglide only possible with the accurate shifting from 11-speed systems.

Magnificent, you've done it! Your effort on these jigs provides scientific data that will save people from the expense and pitfalls of trial and error. A suggestion: feeler gauges could help measure between cogs. Also, 1st cog is often thicker for strength and the two highest have integral spacers that may be thicker than the plastic ones. The plastic might be closer to 2mm, a feeler gauge may show that. Rivets compress so when disassembled the plastic spacers will expand. Visually, Linkglide 10 speed and HG 10 speed have identical cog spacing. In practice, I can use either with a non-CUES 10 speed shifter and derailleur. Would you please also measure SL-M4100-R, SL-M5100-R, and SL-M6100-R? These are 10, 11 and 12 speed. Thank you!

Thank you! I really should build a dedicated jig for measuring cog pitch. I've experimented with feeler gauges, too, but I didn't feel super confident about the numbers I got. I do have those shifters, I just haven't finished the videos yet.

Thanks for the very informative video - i just (literally just) finished installing the "Deore XT" Linkglide 11s on my Bosch CX Hardtail coming from the regular Deore 11s.
I switched all parts over, since i actually need the bike and didn't want to take the risk of blowing old stuff up.
Will see how she performs tomorrow :)
(the old parts will be used again in the next Suez Canal thing, if neccessary)

Cues in fact have 10sp shimano cog spacing, so 9s, 10s, 11s cues cassete will work with shimano mtb rear derailleur and shifter and chain.
But with 9s you need to use Low or Hi screws to disable one geor on the shifter.
With 11sp scenario your only way is cues shifter (but it will work with 10sp or 11sp or 12s rear derailleur)

and iirc link glide technology is only about cassete, chain or derailleur doesnt care, except shifters have less click from one push because ebike motor can bend cassete if you can try to shift 3 gears up in one push.

    Great video thanks for that.
Guess the next big question is, how long will it last, and will it live up to the durability claims? Just purchased a set as ebikes do work the drivetrain hard.

Do you wax your chain? That would be your first sure way to get more life out of your chain.

@@pierrex3226 yep already do. Last one went 4500kms to .7-.8% stretch.
