Here Comes a Thought changed my life. I came home from work the day it aired, angry and crying over something a customer wrongly accused me of. The way Ruby reacted to that little butterfly was how I felt all day. "Here comes a thought that might alarm you. What someone said, and how it harmed you." I was sobbing by the time it got to the end. "It's ok, I'm here..." I think of it every time I get upset at work. It really helps.
No but fr I relate sm. I listen to this every time I'm overwhelmed or inconsolable. It's not just comforting, but also so genuine and non-invasive. It tells you how you can deal with the emotions without being condescending. It's beautiful.

Different gems serve a different purpose (Rubies are bodyguards, Pearls are servants etc.) and their leaders are the Diamonds. Gems can fuse if they emotionally connect with each other too.

That analysis of Spinel and Pink was so far off it made me giggle, lol. You'll definitely need to watch the show and movie. I'd say avoid Future, but eh, I'd give it a watch anyway, it has some nice moments. Also, Drift Away happens after Other Friends, so the second song you heard actually happens early on in the movie.
I have a huge attachment to the last song it’s not the best but it’s my favorite so as the character lapis is a gem to my eyes no pun attended lol. Also the girl singing with garnet is a fusion of Steven and the other little girl you see honestly I recommend listening at least once to we are the crystal gems it will show you the mane cast and let you know there aspirations and all ,hope you start this series ait can drag at some places but it’s definitely worth it.

Spinel ain't a robot (spinel is the singer). She is a gem that was designed to be a playmate to that other pink gem (her name is Pink Diamond). Since Pink is basically a queen, Spinel is forced to follow every order she gives but pink abused this power and ordered Spinel to stand still until she came back, but she never did and abandonded Spinel and left her in the garden for 6000 years. She says "survived by her son" because Pink gave up her form (gems are made of light) and passed her gemstone to Steven, who is Half Human, Half Gem.
I am a bit late, but the reason that you see a lot of cuphead in Spinel is that she's intentionally animated in the older rubberhose animation similarly to cuphead
spinel (the pink gem with crying marks) is a very tragic character. imagine being completely abandon by your best friend, the friend saying "let's play a game, stay still here, I'll come back!" and then she never does for *thousands* of years. then you find out she had a whole life while you were dumbly sitting in that exact same spot thinking she'd come back. she had other friends, she had a lover, she had a son, and now she doesn't even exist anymore. as someone with abandonment issues spinels story and the song drift away never fail to make me cry
Spinel was basically made to be a playmate for pink diamond, the person she was clinging too, and survived by her son, pink diamond wanted to be known as Rose quartz and gave up her existence in order to create Steven, so the moment he was going to be born, she disappeared in order to make up his other half, gems like spinel and pink are literal projections of light, so in order for Steven to even live like a healthy person he needed the power that rose/pink had, if she hadn't done that, it'd been like making a child who's too weak to breathe, eat, etc
The commentary on this makes it very clear just how much context you need about the world to make sense of Steven Universe. Drift Award hurts so much more when you understand what Steven is.

Yeah, definitely one of those shows that starts slow but becomes incredible.
I would suggest watching them in like 6 episode blocks so it doesn't feel like it's dragging on. Each episode 11 minutes long, so it's better binged.

i think you should watch the show! it touches on a numerous amount of topics that other kids shows wouldnt dare to. the first two songs you reacted to were from steven universe the movie. which takes place after steven universe. hbo max has the whole steven universe show on there so i recommend watching it there. right after watching steven universe you should watch steven universe the movie. and after you watch the movie, you should watch steven universe future. all of them together make a great franchise and its very much worth it when you know the context of everything

well spotted! cuphead and spinel both are intentionally aping the old style called "rubber hose animation", seen in some of the oldest animations, most famously seen in the old Disney short Steamboat Willy.
in this movie i think it's a stylistic choice meant to imply both how much Spinel is stuck in the past, as well as how silly and exaggeratedly cartoonish Spinel is by her nature.
