Tell them your symptoms and ask if they can prescribe a different supplement for you. You can try incorporating green juices. I love getting spinach, parsley, and/or cilantro and blending it with a pear or grapes. If you don't like pulp strain it. It taste good. If its too bitter add more fruits.

I have heard that cooking items in a cast iron pot will help raise iron levels.
A nurse at the blood bank told me this.
And eating a spinach salad raises iron levels. I was eating them so much that my levels were equivalent to a range for a man.
    However it wasn’t sustainable.

Hey AK!!! Happy New Year !! 🎉. I have iron deficiency also. I tried to take prescription iron also and it was brutal with the constipation. I stopped taking mine too. My hair, I noticed was thinning and lifeless without the iron. I researched about if there was a gentler iron I could use. I started using Ritual multivitamins for women a couple years ago. I have not had any problems with constipation or stomach issues. There are only 9 vitamins and minerals in their vitamins which I like also. The only drawback is they are about 30 a month and it is online. You can't get them in the stores. I would loo into them if its something you could afford.

I'm severely anemic, to the point where transfusions were on the table. I've tried plenty of iron pills and none of them work like megafoods blood builders. Also taking electrolytes to keep myself hydrated has helped too. My doc thinks I have sickle cell now because my RBC's are irregularly shaped. Also you may not necessarily be deficient because sunlight helps blood flow too so if you're not getting enough sun your blood can become coagulated, or not flow properly. I forgot to add if you get cramps with iron you have to drink more water and/or take it with vitamin c, it's easier on the stomach this way.

Hey beauty, I'm so sorry to hear that you're dealing with severe anemia. I'm stressed from my doctor prescribing iron supplements to take so I can only image the anxiety that came with the discussion of blood transfusions. It sounds like you have solid knowledge of which treatment(s) work best for. You mentioned some extremely helpful suggestions in your comment (mega foods blood builders, electrolytes, sunlight, vitamin C, water). I'm definitely taking notes to incorporate into my own treatment. Thank you so much!

@@AfroKhadisiac Thank you 💜 I definitely understand how you feel about having to take iron again. I couldn't take the pills my doctor prescribed because I always felt nauseous afterwards, but with these I have no side effects. Nobody knows your body like you do, not even your doctors, so at the end of the day, my body has the ultimate say over my doctor.
The blood builders comes in tablet and liquid form. So if you don't feel like going back to a pill right away, you have that option. They're also made with Vitamin C, B- 12 for cell production, beets, and other healthy foods rich in iron. During the winter I take it with a multivitamin for the extra support to help my immune system stay strong as well.

If you're aren't vegan try adding in red meat. Rule of thumb is the redder the meat, the more iron you will intake. Avoid tea, coffee etc. You can definitely cure your iron deficiency without the iron pills. I took them once and never did again. Also try eggs for breakfast(cut back on diary) and lean cut white meat. Hope you find what works for you!!!

I’m going to try to find a super informative video about iron deficiency. I believe the poster outlined exactly how we metabolize iron supplements, highlighted how only a portion of the iron in the actual supplement is bioavailable to us, how one pill might not be enough, and the foods we need to eat in conjunction with iron to best absorb it.

Hey Chris! I found a really good video by Afope Atoyebi. Her video was extremely thorough and helpful at breaking down iron deficiency & providing recommendations! I agree with you. I would focus on getting the cause of the iron deficieny anemia under control if that's an option for you. speak with your obgyn. it sounds like even with diet that may not be enough if the bleeding is uncontrolled. Vitron C supplements are great cause it already has the vitamin c added to help with absorption. iron unfortunately has the side effect of constipation for some ppl so lots of water is definitely important. its best to take it on an empty stomach for absorption but some ppl cant handle it and eat it with a vitamin c rich/small snack to help. Best of luck to you!

@Afro Khadisiac I haven't experienced any side effects with the patches. I typically wear them at night. But you can wear them whenever you want. I just figured at night there would be less disruption. You're not supposed to put them on right after lotioning. I usually shower in the mornings. And I usually would wear the iron patch by itself to avoid any interactions with other vitamins like calcium. If you opt for patches, get the separate iron patch. Not the multivitamin patch. Even though it says it has the same concentration of iron. My sister did that and didn't notice any improvements in her labs. I did the separate and mine improved tremendously. My sister's levels got so low that she had to do IV iron infusions periodically. That may also be an option. Of course your doctor would have to order the infusions.
