Early Ford "Buzzer" to "Chime" Swap - Episode 22

- Hate that annoying loud buzzer in your early foxbody mustang or ford? I do. OR, your chimer is not loud anymore? Swap to a friendly more modern "chime".
Swapping the 79's obnoxious buzzer to a much more soothing chimer. Easy as swapping it out. We also fix the low volume on the chime and wake it up!
Those old buzzers bring back memories.
100% exactly what I was looking for. You’re on your game man. Something so simple can drive a person nuts. Lol thanks
Right on!
@@HOUSEOFDULA I have been trying to figure out what causes the volume to be so low on some of these warning chimes, thinking it was related to the audio system, never did I think the sound was projected from the Relay/fuse itself.
I was intrigued for the Buzzer replacement but finally found the answer to fixing low chime volume, I can't be more grateful for this video, thank you very much!
@@xxtaas777 You bet! I know its odd sticking "paper" in it but thats how they work. Im sure proper foam would be a longer term fix IDK lol...glad it helped you
I've heard a buzzer I believe, but the 90s Ford ding brings back the most memories. My mother had a 93 or 95 Taurus through the 00s, and there were plenty of trucks.
I now have a 94 Taurus with the same sounding chime, but it is in a black box and doesn't use the metal diaphragm but rather an actual wired up piezo, which was introduced after this white one (which was used 87-91 I believe). I had it apart since it was rattly, a little tape or foam fixed that up.
I see several comments mentioning GM chimes, which I find odd, since they have a different pattern. Both my 94 Grand am and a 92 Olds had a faster ding-ding-ding-ding then two slow diiiiing......diiiiing before stopping, when the key is inserted. I believe in the run position, it will continuously beep slowly.
These Ford chimes are a mellow, constant ding. I think they also are wired to ding very fast when the headlights are left on.
#29 O ring ace hard ware
.49 cents fits perfectly around the speaker.
Yep, that more a proper fix. o-ring is a perfect idea.
I have an 86 mustang convertable and it has the annoying buzzzzzzzzzzzz z z z zzzzz. Now I know I can swap it out. Thank God. Thanks for doing the hard work. Oh yeah, love the chime fix too. 👍
Appreciate it man! No problem. I've learned some like it....It drives me crazy, so yeah nice to know these are swappable.
Hey men, I just did the steps as instructed on my 1993 cougar xr7 made in Mexico and wow I didn't even have to try twice, I really appreciate your help.
Sweet!! Interesting a 93 mexican cougar have the "buzzer" lol
Great Hack! BTW, the situation with your 86 is a wire under the dash that was cut so the chime only works when you leave the lights on and the door open with the engine off. We did that to all of our foxes back in the day because we would take them to Port A during spring break and we'd all have our doors open and BIG stereos on the same radio station. 8 to 10 mustangs lined up on the beach with big music drew in quite a crowd of ladies back in the day. For the life of me, I can't remember which wire it was (I've had a few thousand beers since the mid 90s), but if you don't mind it not working, just leave it like it is.
Haha, awesome man well said! Been to Padre a few times back in the day, but not Port A. Good ol days man...Your likely right, I'll double check and look. I replaced the whole damn dash in that car but likely over looked something like that near the buzzer. Either way Im good with how it is.
Perfect.....My 1990 f150 chime was barely audible....I cut out a piece of thin leather in place of deteriorated foam....worked perfect. Great video.
I prefer that old buzzer, i actually came here for information on how to fix it lol
lol I have one I'll send you! ;)
@@HOUSEOFDULA i think its more of a wiring issue lol but i might have to reach out to you for that :)
This channel is so underrated I’ve been saying this for years 😐
Appreciate the hell out of that man. Thank you
@@HOUSEOFDULA no doubt bro keep on making hits and I’ll definitely tune in 😎
That buzzer is like an old friend. I could never get rid of it lol!
Sorry, I had to ditch that friend and didnt think twice.
That thumbs down never owned an 86 or older Foxbody. Both of my 86s, and son-in-law's 86 all had the annoying buzzers. All 3 were pulled from the dashes and tossed. I'll use this trick on my 89 and 91 and post back the results. Thanks for the knowledge share.
Lemme know! Those years should all have the chime Vs buzzer id think
My 84 SVO had a buzzer, but I don't remember it sounding that annoying!
@@HOUSEOFDULA 89 not sure if it is in there. That car has had a rough life. My 91 has the chime and you can barely hear it. All the 4 eyes, annoying, annoying buzzers.
@@halljam70 1987 and later Foxbodies have the warning chime instead of the buzzer. Car chimes should've been standard equipment in the mid to late 70s instead of the buzzer.
The buzzer is the Boss...hell we just unplugged em....
The chime is so much better.
Another great video, and a topic I never knew that I needed to address. :-)
Hey Thomas! Thank you lol You only have to if the buzzer annoys you like it does me ;)
Sick I have a 90 Gt and my chime is pretty low will try this paper method😆
Not proper, I get that but works lol.
You saved my 90s Ford ranger
NICE
Nice tip!! I’m sure there’s lots of people who appreciate this.. Thanks
Appreciate that!
I cleaned off the foam and put a rubber O-ring there instead. Wish I did the paper trick and saved a trip to the parts store lol 😆 great job!
Thats a more legit fix lol i thought about a correct fix, but then was like screw it…it sounds fine haha
@@HOUSEOFDULA whatever works.
Even though this is a ford chime video yours deemed helpful with my Pontiac one!! Have a dinger from an ‘84 fiero I’m gonna swap into my car and it has the same issue where it sounds worn out. Gonna try your paper method!!! Was stumped for months on the issue! Thank you!!
That small pin is hot when you turn your lights on (at least on my 91 is) so its probably for when you leave your lights on.
Likely correct. If I recall the early car like this 79 didnt chime when lights we're left on, only door open / key in ignition.
I missed that chime sound. My dad's 90 Taurus had that.
Possibly my first memory is that sound. I’m on my mother’s hip and it’s dark and we’re getting ready to take my sister to school. I think it would have been a pinto. Yep. Still awful. 😂
lol yep...not very soothing, definitely got you attention!
LOL Always a thumbs down from some hater haha, I posted this video, and literally, 3 views, 1 minute after publish a thumbs down. Its a 8 min video! you hated it 60 seconds in? Give it chance man ;)
This is one of the best vids. I locked my key in the ignition cuz i couldn't hear a quiet and worn chime. Cost me $75 for the locksmith. 99 percent love your content bud.
You can’t acknowledge the trolls that feeds them
As usual awesome video! My 85 Twister II doesn’t work. Now I know how to fix it.
Rare car! Love to see pics of this,
That is a great video, I want to get a newer module for my 85GT
Good to know 85s still had the buzzer, Have no clue on the cut-off years
@@HOUSEOFDULA When I had my 86 GT back in the day. It had the annoying buzzer sound as well. When I checked the build date, it was built in the first batch of 86 models.
Thanks
I fixed the chime on my 89 f150 lariat
Nice! You are welcome
I love the buzzer
HEY! lol to each their own.
0:07 You forgot ding, bells Car
My '86 had the buzzer. As I understand it, they used whatever they happened to have at the time. I don't think they went to the chime all the way until '87.
Interesting my 86 has the chime. Looked to have not been swapped / altered so likely Ford started swapping them mid 86 for the 87 model +
@@HOUSEOFDULA My '86 has a high VIN and as I recall, when I looked up the rear end's buck tag date years ago, I matched it to August '86 so yeah, must have been a Tuesday at the Ford plant. The negative power cable to the engine block had a bolt that was larger also than most others for some reason. I lost the original at one point and had a heck of a time finding the correct size to replace it. As far as I can tell both the rear and engine were all original.
It's for when you have the door's open!
Great info right here! Thanks for the tip.
Cool vid ...changing mines soon....lol
Good info bro and haters will always hate 60 seconds in smfh
Oh yeah doesnt even phase me, if it help 3, i can take the haters
Thats a nice upgrade.. Great video !!
There amazing! The dinger in my 91 is s as leister in-audible. I was thinking I was going to have to try and find a good used one. I’m going to try the paper first!
Why not! lol
That chime is in the GM vehicles.
At 5:37, that second chime sounds like a Chevrolet Express, Chevrolet Cavalier, Chevrolet Malibu, Late 2000s-Early 2010s Volvo vehicles, and 2010s Jeep vehicles.
My boys January built 86 has the buzzer my 86 that was made later in the year has the dinger.
Interesting. Great to know. So mid 86 seems to be when they changed it.
@@HOUSEOFDULA that's what I'm figuring. And man my son hates his buzzer lol.
Am I weird for liking that annoying buzzer lol. Great video
Yes lol but you do you man
It sounds like an angry hornet nest 😂😂😂😂😂
where can i buy the newer module? I have a 86 Mustang with a buzzer :(( and i would like to swap it
Bought mine used on ebay, I think most post 86 fords used the same one, but no guarantee...I just bought one from an 89 mustang, 20 something bucks.
Mmm 🤔 rn mine is in the body shop but iirc every time i opened the door i heard a buzzer maybe the previous owner changed it but i don’t think so
I’ll try to find one too
gooood job men
id get a different buzzer, but to each is own
Nice!
Good tip bro 👌 I like
No hablo inglés 😅
Can you do a custom door chime for the 1986 Ford Mustang that plays the Death Skulls Appear music from the arcade version of Bubble Bobble and have it play when you have the keys in the ignition and the door is open and when you start it up without your seatbelt on?
Yes. Absolutely. lol - Kidding aside, that would be rad. The nerd in me wants to hear like the zelda tune from the original NS when the door is opened. I have friends that can make this happen.
Will this work on a 1987 F series truck as well?
I no experience with the 80's F series but as cheap as you can find them its worth a shot.
Is there anywhere I can buy fully fixed chime module I need to replace mine please
I havent shopped for new, not sure anyone reproduces a "new" one. I bought mine on ebay used. Cheap enough to buy a couple if one didnt work.
Hi!!, I have a Ford Fairmont 1982 Station Wagon, Do you have the part number of the Chime at 6:38 ???, let me kown. If you have someone, let me know, I'll buy it. Regards!!
Hey man! Go to 2:06 in the video. Its all there
😅1917 ford mustang
What is the part number?
Cool mod. But why on earth would you want it louder????
Its not louder at all, WAY quieter and easy on the ears. When I said it needed to be louder it was so faint you almost couldnt hear it at all, but still at its loudest quieter than the buzzer. That foam just deteriorates.
Is it possible to replace the chime in a 1990 Ford Taurus with a scary buzzer from a 1983-96 Ford F-Series XL truck?
Lol, I dont know. I dont see why it wouldnt be backward compatible?
The buzzer on my 85 will buzz even with the key out and door closed. Any suggestions?
Check wire to ignition cylinder. It has a main plug to it but a little single plug and wire to it. That single wire if grounds out will make it chime. Look at pic of replacement part online and you will see what im talking about, only solo little wire to it.
@@HOUSEOFDULA Thanks!!
Hello, where is the 85/86 chime located? I have an 85 and it's not working at all. I hear the start buzzer behind the glove box but no lights on chime or door open chime.
Its a box behind the dash above the glove box. If you take the glove box off, reach your hand up behind the upper dash. No lights or door, likely a wire was cut? Let us know.
Thank you for responding. I will let you know, thanks again!!!
The only thing above the glove box was a low fuel sensor. Any other ideas?
Is the start buzzer and door chime part of the same module?
I just found out that the 85 mustang had the buzzer and not the chime. The 86 had the chime. This was my whole confusion.
Were you able to get a diagram for the newer chime box?
No sir, never found it, I heard that pin was for when headlights were left on?
Just disable the whole thing 😂
Why a GM chime though?
Its not, its from another mustang, 87-93 chime.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Why a GM chime though.
Ford Mustang Chime from a 87+
