No it’s not. On the contrary, usually chess players have tons of annoying “habits” to distract you and make you feel uncomfortable. With a fríend you Know you can relax and focus on the game. You do feel bad though if your friend blunders or has a bad day and plays worse that usual. It’s sometimes hard to actívate your killer instinct against a friend.
I love playing chess against bot and doing puzzle but as soon as I have to play against humans I completely fall apart, shacking, cold hand, heart pounding and everything. Whenever I lose I'm so mad at myself and I don't play anymore for weeks. Seeing you take the L graciously like that, even laughing about it and being able to analyze it is really inspiring. Well done.
I want to say something. You brought such a positive energy to this video that I thought "She must have won the game." Really appreciate how upbeat you are and that you have the right attitude. Thanks for "bringing it" every single video you make. Also... as a lowly 1600 player who has a fair number of high-level scalps... do NOT underestimate a 1600 player. They may have some kind of weakness in their play, but they aren't always going to drop a piece at move 20. Sometimes they'll play tough and give you a real scare. Don't underestimate us. I myself have knocked off an expert once and 1900 players multiple times in tournament length games, so don't assume we are easy targets. Take us seriously. And have fun. =)
Just a quick tip Anna. When Eric almost made that blunder where you could fork his two rooks, you grabbed your pen and were ready to start writing the move. Don't ever do that! Eric saw that and then stopped his move and changed his mind. Stay calm if you see an advantage and just be quiet and don't move a finger!
I'm a big Eric Rosen fan. I discovered Anna because of Eric's channel. What an amazingly small world that these two played over the board in an open tournament in Iceland.
Anna, you are scary... I have never seen someone so enthusiastically explain such complex subjects like it is second nature. You are one of my favourite content creators overall
Love the style. Attacking dynamic chess! I'm the same, I do badly against solid positional players too. Always look for the active move. That one passive Bd3 handed initiative, then you're just swinging punches. Great lesson. Thanks for the content!
Excellent commentary thanks Anna. Your mother's live commentary was amazingly good, please thank her as well! She gave a whole lot of detailed analysis all through the game explaining in simple terms just how a top grandmaster thinks. Her suggested moves checked out really well against the engine moves and explained them!
9:00 thank you Anna for this new word "atrocious". I'm also not an native english speaker (I'm german) and I learnt something new here :-). I like this word and I will use it in the future to describe my chess posotions :-). Btw. It is great that you was paired with Eric Rosen. Fantastic!
The Trompowsky was named after Octavio Trompowsky, a Brazilian chess player. I went online and though 'Trompowsky' is pronounced in various ways in various dialects, the Portuguese (Brazilian) pronunciation seemed to be /trompovski/ or /tromposki/ from what I could find. So I feel like you were pronouncing it closer to right initially.
As a Slovenian I was told multiple times that I was pronouncing Pirc defence the wrong way because I said [pɪrts] instead of the americanized [pɜrk]. Like he was born 80km from where I was born, so shouldn't I know? ^^
That's because the name isn't Portuguese. The name itself came from Polish-Brazillian immigrants and is Polish. And if it still matter, yes, we would say trompovski/tromposki, very close to Anna's old pronunciation. But even he might have pronunced his name differently and Levy's pronunciation is just, well, English.
I liked the 0-0-0 idea for two reasons: your pawn structure dictates it, the opponent’s attack with the BB-pair was oriented toward your K-side… good game!
Love all of your videos. You have a great personality. Always entertaining! Congrats on gaining around 120,000 more subscribers in the last 6 weeks or so.
I don’t know that there’s a more wholesome and lovable personality in the chess scene than you, Anna. People will always root for you. Eric played a great game though, it was basically a forgone conclusion right out the opening when he stayed accurate and solid and shut the attack down. Respect for the way you never took your foot off the gas in spite of that, kept posing threats, and most of all provided an analysis between games!
Hello, Anna, the Reykjavik Open videos from you and Pia are absolutely awesome, thank you so much! Your broadcasts truly bright up the days! Anna, please let me tell you, Pia is working very hard to commentate your games. Please take good care of her. I believe she is overstraining. Set her an alarm so that she takes a break every hour or so, or just "give" her a free day. Was impossible to hear her crackling voice during your second game yesterday, I had am impression her voice is just going to fail. She was almost whispering at some point. And she was making _a lot_ of factual mistakes, mixing up words, and apologizing for her tiredness! There is no need for that kind of sacrifice. At 7:50 You missed a big opportunity. Bishop e4xc6 forking 2 rooks and if the b7 pawn takes your bishop you hit back with the queen forking the 2 rooks and the bishop. Black can move a rook or move the queen to protect a rook but the other rook is bye-bye and if you are lucky a7 pawn is also taken. The balance is 1 bishop saced but a rook and 3 pawns taken.
I normally watch Eric's channel and get his analysis of his games but RUclips recommended this "perspective" to me. It was interesting. Good luck with the rest of the tournament.

So in Polish it would be Trom-pof-ski. The Americanized pronunciations is Trom-POW-ski.

The biggest problem is that your whole point was to attack on the king side but your f and g pawns basically never moved until far too late. When you sac’d the exchange, it wasnt in service of that plan. The problem wasnt in the plan you chose, but in execution of it. You had the right idea of attack a higher player that can beat you in positional play, be willing to accept material losses for an open game with more threats on the king, but like you said, you actually abandoned that idea a bit after already having committed to it with long castling. Sometimes instead of defending, continuing an attack can be better. And even lost pawns are open files attacking the king. Im newer to your channel but it seems like you have strong chess vision and the things that will improve your game are understanding concepts better (what is my plan, how do i commit to it, what can be a stronger place to more optimally use my pieces (i was SCREAMING for you to move the knight to g5 in my mind long before you did) and those things are things that actually *can* be improved relatively easily, as opposed to the chess vision which is partly innate. IT might sound crazy, but a lower rated coach than your parents that can effectively communicate these ideas for you to internalize better could help you make an *enormous* leap in your chess game. Great match and love the content though! =]
