Just want to take the time to say that my uncle learned leather craft in WW II In rehab from injury and when he retired I spent some time with him and he passed the art on to me before he passed away. Now I'm retired and 71 years old.I enjoy your videos no matter how you present them and I still learn some great things from you.....thank you so much and your artistic abilities are just awesome
I have Wills pattern pack but haven’t made a holster from it yet. I’m going to order his 1911 100 year anniversary pack soon. Love your videos. Keep up the excellent work. Thanks for sharing your journey with the world.
Another beautiful creation, I have'nt done a toe plug but had a project with a lot of box stitch, which is basically the same thing. Got tired of the pliers thing and dug around for my old sailmakers palm thimble, seemed to speed up the push-thru process although I still had to use pliers to pull the needle through. Thanks!
I love a double lined holster myself, back when I was a younger man I started out making knives and axes and naturally you move into making sheaths and such for them. I recall seeing a fellow at a show who was making the double lined holsters and I talked with him about it and when I got back home I made several and honestly, the police went nuts over them. Gave them a smooth draw and didn't rub the blueing off their guns. Of course back then, most detectives carried revolvers, .38 Specials mostly. Then came "Lethal Weapon" and suddenly Berettas were suddenly all the rage. Since then it's mostly Glocks, Barrettas and Sigs, Occasionally you will run across a S&W M&P, or something different. I had one detective up in Greensboro who used a Maab, which is a French made 9mm, but at the time it was the first semi-auto that had a fifteen round magazine. The other side of this is when you make a holster for a cop or detective, he's gonna need magazine holders as well and they need to be readily accessed from his off hand. Biggest set up I made for a fellow was a frontier reenactor and he had me make him up a western style pistol belt with holster for his .45 long Colt peacemaker on his right and a Bowie Knife on his left. He specified he want the belt holster and sheath to me double lined, but I talked him into using Kydex as a liner with a leather sheath. I don't normally care for Kydex, even though they are popular but I hate drawing a pistol or knife that makes too much noise and if you don't have them tight then the pistol or knife could fall out. I also warn people about having lanyards on their knives as the lanyard will get caught on something and next thing you know you look down and somewhere along the trek you just took your custom made knife you love as good as your best girlfriend is laying on the ground or dangling from a bush. I always tell folks to have your lanyards ready to take out and put on so you can handle your large knife for detailed work, then take it right off. I actually had a fellow come to my shop and tell me he'd lost his knife he bought from me and felt that since he'd only had the knife for less than thirty days my unconditional warranty for materials and workmanship applied and I owed him another knife. Needless to say we had a rather intense exchange of thoughts and ideas and then I offered to make him a new knife at the same price I'd charged him before. Losing the knife, was not covered, or he could go back track where he'd gone and find his knife. Then I reminded him that I warned him about lanyards left on your knife.
Beautiful holster. I have made several on the same pattern, although most of mine are not tooled and carved. I would like to ask you a question if you don't mind. How do you go about folding a carved and tooled holster body without having the tooling lose its "depth". Mine kinda go flat-ish when using traditional methods such as wetting and casing before folding. Thanks!
Have you tried the Osborn petal lifters? Comes in two sizes. Not much difference in the two. About $15.00 each. Really gives the lift with good control.
Thanks for subscribing! I machine stitch liners simply because they're so tedious and time-consuming (It's one of the primary reasons for purchasing the machine.) As can be seen in the video, it has a speed reducer that can slow the stitching way down. That gives me plenty of control over the placement of each stitch.
Absolutely stunning! I'm typically really good at anything I set my mind to. Tooling leather is the exception. I do love watching you create amazing works of art though.
I’ve been a subscriber for a while now and love your videos, I have a question about what you use to thin your leather dyes as I see you do often in your videos. Is it just plain alcohol, or denatured alcohol, or an actual thinner? Your advice would be much appreciated
Beautiful! I'm not familiar with these types of holsters, but when drawing the firearm, will the holster rise up with the gun a bit before being stopped by the band?
Another beauty. Never seen anyone bevel a stitch groove before..interesting. Do you make your own flower pattern tap offs with a laser printer? What devise are you using to cut out the small trigger guard welts?
Just watched your Tippman Boss video from 5 years ago. They sell for 1200.00. The Cobra 4 for 3,000.00. Never having a sewing machine, looks like the Cobra would be the way to go. Money for value would seem much better. What say you? I’m in Rowlett Tx. Have tried all three Tandy stores in the DFW area. Where are you located? I use Angelus dyes and Frogjelly has a much larger selection of dyes and has the Angelus acrylic finish which I prefer.
how do I commission a custom holster? Colt python 6 in barrel. You make the most beautiful stuff. I think I've asked this in just about every video you have posted. Perfect work my man. Just perfect.
Unfortunately, I don't have the bandwidth to take commissioned work at the moment. I would also have to have the gun in my possession to make a holster for it.
I hope you know I meant no disrespect. Your workmanship in leather tooling is extraordinary. We all have different tastes in what we like. I'm more of a plain guy. Even my belts and holsters I had made with no tooling. But I do enjoy your work.
Beautiful work my friend. Quick question: what kind of glue do you use? I have been looking for a replacement for rubber cement, my work has been feeling a little lacking because of it

You do incredible leather work I’d love to watch more but I’m sure your making money off the commercials but for some of it gets to be to much. With everyone on RUclips now an entrepreneur. Well if you have RUclips channel that you follow I’m sure even you get tired of skipping every few minutes. Maybe it’s just me but there was a time before RUclips created this mess and no commercials it was great. Sorry to go on and on but a lot of time is being wasted your work is beautiful and I’m sure your channel makes money. Four break in a 35 minute video was just to much. There used to be a site with RUclips but no commercials I gotta see if it still exists. Great work though!
Let me see, you are making a holster for a man's firearm. And you are putting tulips and posies on it? The silver concho is fine, but not the posies. That belongs on a lady's purse. The holster is very nice, but far from manly.
What a rude comment to make about this awesome looking holster! Really shows you don't have a clue about these. Always has to be that one person to crash a party...
@@RoadAgentLeather You never see tooling on a working saddle. Why? It's so hard to maintain. Dust and sweat work their way into the leather. Just to much work in maintenance.

I use plain denatured alcohol. Make sure to apply some neatsfoot afterwards as will dry the leather out otherwise.

Gorgeous, love it! Please make one for me exactly the same! I’ll pay everything what you ask me for one? 1911 5”
What weight of the milled veg tan do you use?
Where do I get started in this craft?
Are your holsters made to order, or do you have stock for sale?
Beautiful!
I'm not familiar with these types of holsters, but when drawing the firearm, will the holster rise up with the gun a bit before being stopped by the band?
The heavy leather it's made of is pretty stiff (especially when it's folded over on itself). There's little movement when unholstering.
Another beauty. Never seen anyone bevel a stitch groove before..interesting. Do you make your own flower pattern tap offs with a laser printer? What devise are you using to cut out the small trigger guard welts?
the floral pattern was made on a 3d printer. The welt was cut on a Creality CR Falcon 10W laser
