  • Today, we discuss the new ‪@behringer‬ mini synths recently announced and what we know about them so far. I'll also share some of my thoughts.
    The synth snobs are always quick to attack and judge. Let's also read what they have to say for fun!
    This video isn’t a definitive source for info on these products and I’m sure I missed some information. I invite you to check out Behringer’s website or Facebook for more. I’m newer to the synth community and synthesizers. I wanted a place to discuss and talk about their recent releases.

    The real negative thing you can say about Behringer is that they're bullies, suing (or threatening to sue) bloggers who critique their synths and so on, and their boss is a jerk. The comments dissing on the synths for being "cheap" and not from a "major brand" are just BS comments from people trying to appear superior...

    Synth snobs are the broken knobs of the synth community...I currently own an Arturia Polybrute & Microfreak, Hydrasynth Deluxe, Behringer Deepmind 6 (which is I absolutely love) and will be picking up a couple of these mini synths as they look a lot of fun

      Only have a Microfreak myself so far, but these might very well expand my collection, so long as I like the sound when demo'd... and they don't burst into flame or something.

    Compared to most of the electronics we use every day, analog synthesizers are stone-age technology.
    Don't get me wrong, there are a lot of finely crafted machines out there, that deserves their price tag because they are built by innovators, in small series.
    However, the extreme prices on some vintage synthesizers are because they were built long ago. They have since become legendary, and there aren't that many of them left.
    It is a supply-demand thing.
    I recently saw a tr 909 advertised on auction, starting on about 7000$.
    If Behringer can build, advertise and sell an equivalent product for 400$. Well let's go!
    Yeah, it is a rather distasteful knock-off but they are using 40 years old technology for crying out loud!
    You can stick to Levi's if you want, but don't get upset when people choose to wear other brands of jeans.

    I am a long time musician, took up guitar when the Beatles were still together, later bass, piano, harmonica etc. I always thought synthesizors sounded really cool but they were always too expensive. Times have changed. Here I am in my 60s and have taken up a whole new amazing set of instruments. I bought a Behringer TD-3 when I saw how cheap they were, was amazed, and have since acquired 3 Korg Volcas, an FM, a Sample, and a Bass and an IK UNO, a Behringer Pro VS Mini, a Monotron Duo and a Monotron Delay. Not only have these inexpensive synths opened new doors, but they have shown me new uses for my digital pianos. I have no idea what the synth snobs are going on about and care even less. This is a whole new musical world for me.

    Surely at the end of the day it’s how someone can use this to make great music right? I’m new to this world (a year in) and I love it - but I got into synths/DAW/electro because I love music, I love sound, and who gives a fuck if it’s expensive gear or not? We are here to make brilliant music right? so lets do that & if we use cheaper products so be it. Great artists will always find a way and if the gear is accessible to all then I think we are going to hear some great new music made by talented folk. Crack on music lovers & fuck the synth snobs.

    Behringer has always walked the line. These days, of course, they have lawyers, they know exactly what they can and cannot afford, but one has to remember that Behringer started as a guy building cheap copies of good gear in his basement.
    And personally, I'm torn on Behringer.
    Their self-developed gear? Great. I love my Neutron.
    Them offering cheaper alternatives to models released by big name companies?
    Yeah, also good. I have a Crave, it's okay... Looking forward to the edge.
    Them trying to muscle in on small innovative synth companies?
    uhm... maybe not that great? The Beatstep-clone made me uncomfortable, because the original is like 300 bucks and made by a tiny company in france.

    • @Tiger.Arcade
      @Tiger.Arcade  2 года назад +1

      I felt the same way about the arturia beatstep keyboard. I also agree with them being innovative. In reality, most synth companies are borrowing or sharing ideas for creating new synths. Cloning synths that aren’t made anymore is cool with me too. Patents expire and not everyone has $2,000 for an original. Behringer has always been controversial and that may always keep them in the spotlight. They shouldn’t rip off or take things from smaller companies current products though. That’s messed up, whether it’s legal or not.

    • @designator7402
      @designator7402 2 года назад +2

      @@Tiger.Arcade Precisely that. Let them revive the dead, let them rival the living giants, keep them away from the newcomers.
      The one exception that came to mind since is that of open source. Behringer has a VCO module based on the open source multi-oscillator engine that Arturia uses as well.
      That is fine. It's non-viral open source, so they're both in their legal and moral right to use that.

    I'm excited about these. I have a similar setup with the Modal SKULPT. It has so many different levels to it. The 1st synth I bought, was a Behringer Model D, about 2019. Behringer made it affordable for me to get into analog synths, instead of using soft synths. I now have the K2, and Wasp, and put a mixer extension on the Model D. Chaining them all together is awesome! Think about getting all these Souls Series synths and chaining them all together! I just heard you say there is no Midi In on the JP-4000. I'm sure there will be Mods almost as soon as they come out. There is a Midi Out mod for the Volca series synths from Korg. So hopefully, Midi In won't be a problem.

    You can't boil down the gripes people have with Behringer only to "synth snobbery." The company does some shady stuff and has for a long time. Some of us started taking notice of that long before they ever announced their first synthesizer. And I actually own a DM12 but that brand can be problematic. That isn't just snobs reacting.

    I don't have "feelings" about behringer, nor am I partial to them. But I have found the neutron useful in my set up. As to these new machines, I feel 0 guilt about considering one of these over a roland or a korg, considering when if anything with "those" sounds are released by those companies they are so far out of my price range it's clear they were not released for me (as opposed to a collector, etc.) or they're purposely hobbled...for reasons. Bottom line, if any of these might fill a gap in my sound I will be happy to add them to my set up. P.s. 2 of the 3 are ugly, almost to the point of being charming.

    Yo I love your attitude on the hatin' attitudes rampant online. Geessh! Yah, the accessibility factor - Roland, moreso than any of the other makers, never bothered to re-issue their analog classics in any format whatsoever so Behringer didn't rob them of the right to their IP. $50 pricepoint that you're getting any of this is incredible, just think about the new possibilities for teaching synthesis to so many more potential students than ever before! Analog synths especially, really any hardware synthesizers have always been prohibitively
    expensive for people to casually just dip their feet into the pool but there is a joy of experimenting tactially and alongside other instruments (elec / non-elec). When Korg debuted those monotrons it was incredible to have analog synthesizers offered again, sub $100, but unfortunatley they weren't usable for even hobbyists to play a melody in most cases, they were just too cut down, but to try and do something really entry-level analog synth-wise these feature-sets could allow you to actually do something. The Volcas are a bit too expensive for their aim in my opinion, nearly $200, and they don't even offer stuff like USB I/O (until the 2nd gen Volca Sample), I think these'll fulfill the original mission of the Volcas almost a bit better than the Volcas themselves (but Volca original trio trio paved teh way for this whole category mating the small knobby synth to the 16-step sequencer.

    • @DaveDaves

      And yo the reason for all the hater comments? They're shaking in their boots realizing that everyone's gonna know that us synthists aren't superior to everyone else, having some magical knowledge & ability to operate electronic instruments while everyone else just better be listeners and not players. I've never been so interested in vector synthesis, but at $100 ? Yes for sure I'll give it a whirl
