    Analyze the cultural shifts in the black family and black community that occurred in the 1990s leading up to the new millennium (2000s).
    Examine the cultural attitudes of America in the 'New World' global landscape. Analyze the popular culture norms and practices leading up to the historical election of Barack Obama.
    Critically analyze the intersection of race and racism as they relate to class, gender, sexuality, religion, spirituality, national origin, immigration status, ability, tribal citizenship, sovereignty, language, and/or age in African American, American communities. Analyze the post Obama-election era, including the Arab Spring and Global South social movements; the Black Lives Matter movement; the Black family in the age of mass incarceration; the case for reparations and Trump's birtherism -- assess what they mean for African Americans, and the current debates around income inequality in the United States. Assess the rise in racial violence and animus in Donald Trump's America and the ongoing evolution of the Black Lives Matter and other civil rights movements as well as voting rights and social justice movements in the aftermath of Trump's election.
