Once you get super addicted to cooking it is exactly like this. I could never run a restaurant but I love making tasty meals for people and getting that little smirk like House does when people enjoy the food.

House could have started a music career to keep himself distracted from the pain tbh. He can play piano and guitar (also air guitar).
Problem there is that unless you're already established, you gotta go around convincing club owners etc to hire you for the night. That's a highly people-oriented task, which isn't something House excels at. He'd probably be blackballed from every club in the city within a month, from insulting every club owner.
Working in a kitchen works to House's preferences because it's not a customer-facing role. Unfortunately it wasn't challenging enough to hold his interest because he was only doing single meals whereas most of the challenge and variety of a chef's job comes from handling dozens of tables a night with multiple options on the menu.
House needs something where the challenges are as unique and diverse as people are, without needing to be ANSWERABLE to those people. Being a police officer might work except his anti-authoritarian personality would never allow it.
I love House and 13 when they get scenes alone together. Their respect for one another is endearing. Respectful and challenging, which they both need.

I wonder what 13 says after House admitted his leg still hurts. He was always comfortable to be vulnerable around her, something Wilson and Cuddy had a hard time getting him to do. There's one episode in season 7 when Wilson and Cuddy both asked 13 to check on House when he was taking experimental drugs. They knew House wouldn't hide anything from 13
@@ethelping9227 It's because like House, 13 was also medically crippled due to her Huntingtons, and House knew it. 13 was already very much broken like House himself, with the pain of knowing she will not live long, while House was broken by the pain of always being in pain. 13 and House are fundamental broken people and as such they can confide in each other whereas Cuddy and Wilson were generally speaking normal in comparison. Wilson and Cuddy never could fully understand House, and why he did the things he did. Neither could anyone else for that matter in many scenarios except for 13.
Cuddy and Foreman understood how manipulative House could be.
Chase understood House's intellect and his ideology.
Wilson and Cameron understood House's need for challenge and addiction.
But only 13 understood House's pain and sadness.
Olivia Wilde's eyes are absolutely stunning.

In a sense House is an incredible weak junkie persona. Great contradiction to his dominant assuring performance as doctor
I wouldn't say he's weak. He's supposed to be arguably one of the best diagnosticians in the country in the show's universe. A generally "weak" person would not be able to attain that level of success in any field, they'd give up on it early on, deem it too much effort. But he's certainly weak against Vicodin.
@@madelaki I meant weak in his personal life. He avoids all necessary conflict and instead copes with vicodin,alcohol,excess. His inability to challenges there make him weak and impossible as a partner for Cuddy exemplified when she needed him. As a doctor he is a monument. A giant.

I will NEVER understand why Dr. Nolan never discussed amputation with House.
The amputation was discussed back when House's life was in jeopardy from the toxic materials from the dead thigh muscle, now that it's no longer a concern, no doctor in their right mind would agree to voluntary amputation, it's only done if life is in danger or if there's no other option.
Plus as the first two episodes of s6 show, House's leg pain is mostly, but not wholly, psychosomatic, even if he amputated his leg he would still feel phantom pains from that, they would just be a little lesser, not really worth it
@@drmajalis1583 Don't forget, that House would immediately reject that due to what Cuddy did by betraying him and having his leg surgically repaired which didn't do anything to help with the pain.
@drmajalis1583 as someone who has lost four toes and part of the foot, I can attest that the pain is not reduced by any appreciable amount.... In some ways it's worse because, you know that it's not real....
He may have. We don’t hear every part of their conversations and he probably made it clear several times just like he did in other seasons

I will always like this scene because Dr. House was trying to find new outlets to distract himself from his drug addiction to pain pills. Cooking worked for him for a while but he never really changed for the better. At least he hung out with Wilson before he passed away from cancer. I admit Dr. House will always be one of my favorite dr shows and I'm now into more medical type of shows. I was never into those kind of shows when I was younger but now I am lol. I'm now in my mid 30s and I still like this show.

I’m doing group participation in that I too accidentally 1 decade ago I hit my right knee just above the patella by a sharp 🪓 hatchet 4 stitches yet minimal to .007 thousands of an inch damaged a ligament. Certain shoes help but, it gets overused in pivot and, feels tired lots blood flow to my foot is compromised not to the point of prosthetics it’s not a pain which I need medicine for. Yet has some fluid not drained present day so it pops. True events when it happened this program was not going to air until a series of events. Was house an addict, someone in severe chronic pain, or an addict who had chronic pain? The script seems to want him to be all at once. I don’t think the writers did their homework on chronic pain, opiates and addiction. Opinions?
You can be both. Many people become addicts due to an injury, then being prescribed opiates, less common these days but in the past they handed it out like candy. House clearly has an addictive personality, that's why he HAS to know what's wrong with people, he's addicted to that high. So when he found opiates it was a foregone conclusion. People with addictive personalities need to stay away from certain drugs and fill their time with something else, like House's doctor is trying to do with finding him a hobby.
Seasons 1 - 4 he was an addict, he didn't realize that he was an addict until way past season 2 where he willfully checked into rehab, however, when he came back, Cuddy had signed the papers for him to get his leg fixed, which House didn't want to happen as he didn't know if the surgery would have worked or not (in which it didn't, because he had to rely on his cane even more).
Season 4 onwards, he was criminally prosecuted for killing someone in surgery and had two options - go to jail for several years, or lose his license to practice medicine. House decided to go to jail, however after four months, Foreman came to him saying he could work his sentence out by coming back to work, but if he slipped up, he would go back to jail to serve the remainder of his sentence.
House agreed, but was given a lousy paycheck, smaller office and found he couldn't "boss" around his team, with Foreman being his boss. This encouraged everyone to literally play pranks on House to get him to retaliate in order to get him sent back to jail, with the likes of Cuddy hiding his cane, putting a tripwire in his office and other stuff. It came to a head when his tickets to a basketball game was found to have flooded the hospital and caused thousands of dollars in damages, which was confirmed in the next episode not to have been House's doing but the person he was overseeing when he was given the tickets. He was told that he would have to serve his remaining days in prison, where House then fakes his death and rides into the sunset with his friend with his last words being "Cancer sucks"
@@GenGamesUniversethat's not even close to what happened. He went to jail for running his car into Cuddy's home and it was the end of season 7. Season 8 starts with him in jail.
