Historically, MLS had a draft, but most drafted players never played meaningful minutes. Academies are somewhat recent. Mostly it was recruiting out of other leagues.

Highlight videos are seriously so important for any players wanting to play in college... if you have a good video, you can make a lot of things happen for yourself. I went from 0 offers at the end of my junior year to 10+ just from sending out my highlight video

My dream is to play D1 soccer. I've been training hard everyday so that when my highschool season starts I can be the best player that I can possibly be. How can I get recruited if my season doesn't start and I can't get game footage?

I'm from the UK and I have the same problem and right now in England the lock down covid rules are harsher over here than in the US- so the season starting normal time is looking hopeless. But, all I'm saying is keep training, keep working hard and have faith that the season will return and you will have games to record- it will pay off. Plus, the coaches are going to understand and have exceptions because of this whole corona virus shit.
Try contacting 1st grade coaches to see if they can let you train on or trial to give you a shot. If you don't have contacts, find someone you know and get it from them. It's all about being proactive and giving yourself max opportunity. Hope it helped :)

Hey Matt, I am a 13 year old player, and I have been playing for about 9 years. I lived next to people that I scrimmaged with and played games with. Until quarantine i never trained on my own. Everyday today I run a 6 minute mile, do 500 passes against a brick walls(checking my shoulder for each one), about 2 hours of stomach and arm training, plus doing shooting drills to work on my accuracy and shot power. I am a CM. Do you have any Recommendations about things for me to do to play at a lvl like u do? Thanks 😊

Don’t you think when u was young guy u was just better than now? Quicker and good in dribbling. My thoughts: because of you training and stay aware of every aspects of the game what made you think in different way than when u was younger made you slower player(I mean gym workouts, lose natural speed), without calm with the ball ? I based only on your videos so I don’t actually know that you are slower than before maybe you are quicker.

In my opinion I think it’s best to start Jr year it gives you enough time for many contacts and more highlights of yourselve

Matt I’m a sophomore now is it the time to start recording my soccer clips or should I wait till I’m a senior?
Thought I’d pop in and give my advice ( I’m not in highschool but will be this year, you don’t have to listen to me I know ) I would’ve started recording my clips as a freshman, say you get injured in your senior (knock on wood) and you’re out for the remainder of the season you won’t be able to get clips since you’re injured, so I would start recording. that’s my take you don’t have to listen to me but that’s what I would do hope this kinda helps tho 🙏🏾

Hey @ become elite i am 13 yearly old I wish of becoming a soccer player when I grow up any ideas of what I should do to get to that level please keep in mind that I live in Zimbabwe a country next to South Africa so my exposure and coaching staff and opportunities are very low for me to play abroad + my parent don’t really see a future in me playing football please help on what I should do u seem like the guy that would know just by the way you got to they pro level
