    Hi! Chef Rose. I was thinking if I can use lumpia wrapper for my kikiam. Thank you so much for sharing this recipe. My question is now answered through you. Now I can use lumpia wrapper instead of taupe wrapper if I can’t find in the grocery here in Luzon. I’ll keep to watch your video for more recipes. 😋❤️🙏

      You can but the taste is different. The flavor from the taupe makes it kikiam. You can buy in shopee - kikiam wrapper or taupe. Search mo. By the way, this ngohiong recipe is not kikiam recipe. Iba ito.

    Is there a substitute for ngohiong powder? Or what's other term for that

      Ngo hiong powder is also known as 5-spice powder. You can search online on how to make you own combination of spices if you can not buy them.

      Try singkamas or grated green papaya but you need to salt them first and then squeeze out the juice before using.

      The commercial street ngohiong in Cebu does not use meat. We use ubod not dabong but I do know some people who use dabong and add meat too!

    What’s is liquid seasoning? Substitute?

      I use Knorr liquid seasoning. You can use soy sauce instead. Liquid seasoning has an unami flavor. Anothe option is to use oyster sauce. They are not the same but they will give you acceptable results.

    Hi Chef! due to scarcity of ubod, can we use bamboo sprout(dabong, Labong) instead?

      Yes you can but it has a different taste. You can use singkamas instead but singkamas just tends to be very watery so you have to squeeze it well.

      Pwede ra but expect mas watery ang singkamas kaysa sa ubod. Medyo tab ang sad ang singkamas compared to ubod so adjust the seasoning a little.

    What can be a good substitute for labong?

      I used ubod from the coconut not labong from bamboo. A subsitute would be singkamas or green papaya (add salt to remove the sap).

      Yes. Ngohiong powder is 5-spice powder. Ngo means 5 and hiong means flavor or aroma.

      Same recipe. Pack after you finish wrapping. Here in Cebu, they are sold frozen half cooked never without pre-frying it.

      Yes you can but singkamas tends to be more watery and lacking in flavor compared to ubod which is sweetish, so you need to adjust the seasoning.

      If you are in Cebu, we sell it in Caro and Marie. Otherwise, you can buy it in the supermarket. It is called Five Spice Powder.

      You can use singkamas but you need to adjust the seasoning because compared to ubod, singkamas is a bit bland in flavor.

      Sure you can but I suggest that you pre fry so the wrapper will not be watery or sticky.

      You can use singkamas but hahabulin mo ang lasa kasi ang ubod medyo malasa. Adjust mo ang timpla.

      Bakit naman hindi pwede. Lulutu in pa naman yan nang dalawang beses. Hindi mo ma tancha ang dami nang filling kung mag kuchara ka. Sa pagluluto, pwede kamayin as long as lulutu in
      pa at malinis ang kamay. Wag naman tayo maging OA.
