Felt the same way about the climbing switch at first until I realized its not really a climbing switch, its basically just a firm or plush ride and it pedals great in either position! At least that's how SC had it set up for my demo. This bike is the best thing I've ever ridden, can't wait to get mine!
@@schwajj I've demo'd both. The Ripmo twice, the Hightower LT once. For me, it's the Ripmo, hands down, more playful, quicker turning, and better climbing. I have been comparing these as I'm stepping away from my Specialized Enduro 29.....(however they just released a new model yesterday, oh well). That Ripmo is money!!! The only other one I want to demo is the Mondraker Foxy 29 RR, but good luck finding them in the US, I know of only one place, Colorado.
I just took my Hightower LT 2019 for a third weekend ride - BAM!!! Crashed and scratched up my new frame and that beautiful Fox Factory Fork!! Ugh!! Nothing bad, just a scratch.
Ripmo is a snappy poppy bike and the Hightower is a planted bike hugs rocks and small bumps haven’t had the Hightower but I have the megatower and I had the ripmo best all arounder has to go to the ripmo
Interesting. I just built up a Megatower and so far I really like it, but I was also looking for a more gravity-oriented bike compared to my Primer trail bike. I bought the MT to replace a M16C DH bike as I wasn't really riding the DH bike enough or on terrain burly enough to justify it. After riding the MT on some of the same DH trails I've rode the DH bike on, I don't regret the decision at all. Conversely, I'm actually considering a more XC-race bike to complement the MT. A Blur-trail, perhaps.
Rode the blue Hightower in Whistler at the SC demo and loved it. I can't wait to get one. I hate that yellow color though. What did Hannah think of the Maverick? My wife wasn't able to demo one, but would probably be looking more at the Joplin anyway. Looking forward to your Tallboy review now that it's been updated as well.
Anybody got advice on Tallboy vs Hightower vs Bronson vs 5010 for Sedona, AZ trails specifically? My GT 29er was heavy and harder to corner out there (but it's an entry level bike from 2013) also rode 26" HT and full sus there and those were more fun and easier to carry around when required. Only Santa Cruz I've ridden is Tallboy from a couple years ago. Climbed well enough for me, but that wasn't a twisty trail, not sure about tight cornering.
@JF I've been watching retailers to see the 2021 frame show up as available, I wasn't sure if the 2020 (yellow or purple) was the same geo. Hightower seems tempting too though.
Hey Mo and Hannah , greetings from Thunder Bay Ontario For looks it has to be the Juliana , the colour of the Hightower is pretty bland to say the least, I’m sat at home with a ruptured rotator cuff, so no more biking now until winter time for me 😢 Keep up the good work guys 👍
Hey, awesome video! Which build did you test? Carbon? The entry level Hightower is reasonably priced but weights in on almost 35 lbs, not sure if that will have a big impact on it's climb effeciency... Really exited to get one but the weight holds me back a bit - a lot of climbing where I live :) Again, big thanks for awesome videos!
For me a better climber will always have the edge just because you got to get where your going and if its a fight just to get a tad more reward on the decent its just not worth it
Love my Nomad V4, but all these Santa Cruz bikes are sweet, high end machines. Stuck at Ft Bragg for a little longer on orders and haven't been on my bike in a couple months now. I'll be home soon though. Just gonna watch your vid's and relax.
yay new video!!! can’t wait to see it :) EDIT: awesome video guys! hope you’re having fun at Crankworx, wish I could go there but will wait till next year probably.
Great review Mo.! I have 300 miles on my Megatower now, and tired it in the long setting for a bit and ended up going back to the short setting ( rear axle position ). The Mega is for sure a long bike, and I have to agree that if you could only have one, the HT would be the way to go for most riders. That said, the Mega eats up tech and bit terrain, and it's a blast at bike parks. I'm pretty happy with the Mega and don't think I'll be parting with it any time soon.
mySportsclinic I’m 6’1”, working at a Santa Cruz dealer and the Large feels TERRIBLE. compared to the XL, it’ll make anyone over 5’11” feel like a circus bear. current sizing trends are moving in a way that will have you on a bigger size than was considered traditional.
Hey MoaAwesome, how tall are you? I am just over 6' and feel an XL would be the right fit for me, but could be a little long. Sat on an XL and it felt good... Jest wonder your thoughts.
Hey Tony!!! Probably the Hightower cause it can handle it’s own on the downs but you can still do all day rides and not feel like your wasting a bunch of extra energy on the climbs!
Hey man I really enjoy your informative bike reviews ! You have a great way of presenting the bikes pros and cons and you do not play favorites . Thanks again for the very informative bike reviews , it really helps the leman like myself find the perfect bike with out having the option of test ridding them all ourselves ( yes I am jealous of you and Hannah ) . :)

Looking at new Hightower and Yeti SB130. How do they compare? More interested in climbing ability.
How would you compare the Hightower with your RipMo? Trying to pick between the two. Currently have a 5010 and used to have the HD3 and HD4
Can you do a Hightower vs fuel ex 8
I am more thinking between Hightower or Nomad... what would you suggest?
What about Hightower vs Ripmo?
Both are great RipMo is a bit more playful and poppy Hightower is a bit more stable at high speeds. Can’t really go wrong!
