When he mentioned the Sega CD, it brought back the memories of me trying to set up my Sega CD, it took me forever to realize that I had to take off that piece that said "DO NOT REMOVE" or something along those lines.
It's not dumb, thats what the engineers needed for it to work. It doesn't need the modem to be inserted in to it, that's a convenience for the customer.
They were working on that actually. But it never got finished. Honestly, if it had been released, I doubt it would have been successful. Add-ons seldom are.
@strictlysega Gameshark, Codebreaker, even the Utopia boot disc should launch a Japanese game on a PAL Dreamcast. I'm glad you checked it out, feel free to check out the others. I do almost all the voices in every episode. :D
This is one of the most intriguing I've seen from you so far. Would've been cool if they actually released the other stuff you talked about to the public. I also lol'd at the shout out. Keep it up!
It’s a bummer that the karaoke adapter’s only function was for karaoke. The adapter aesthetic-wise actually looks cool. Sorta like leaving the N64DD attached at all times for looks.
Yup. Homebrew, apps and emulators would be the next great thing to have on there too. Check this out if you haven't already seen it. It shows the prototype working and he just uploaded the vid 2 weeks ago. /watch?v=XKwbf14oojk
i scored a samba de amigo full playkit today... got a good deal.. but untill i score a pal version of the game is it possible to play the us or japanese? im having trouble finding a pal version on ebay
Hi Adam ! I bought this karaoke unit and I would like to know if there is a cd with all music from the sega website ? I have found nothing about it... Thank you for your videos
Wow...It a cool looking unit.Would like too have one.Just to make my dreamcast unique. Great video. Sad you don't know japanese ...Would love to see the options screen? Or just running. Thanks
I was wondering because I have discs with emulators and games on them, like Dream SNES and such, I would be willing to bet there is a way, Singit Star I believe is a Wii game but somebody converted it to Xbox 360 with custom songs, I will look more into it.
I was also watching your video where you connected a Dreamcast controller to your 360 with that nightmare of a daisy chain and wanted to bring this to your attention if you hadn't seen it yet, not sure if this would help, but you can check it out. I'll PM you the link, I don't think it will let me post the link here.
This might be a silly question, but I noticed that when you first turned on the DC in this video, it had a different start up screen. Is that something you custom made, or was it already set up to be that have that opening from the DC dev kit?
This is a prototype of the player. How it would have worked with the Dreamcast is beyond me. 3.bp.blogspot.com/-OvAVkMgqW5I/UV0DPi7x7_I/AAAAAAAACr8/sG2ifpLkti4/s1600/Dreamcast-DVD-Player.jpg
I've heard that the reason this doesn't work on us machines is because of the power. This thing will actually explode. (Ok maybe not) but I were to put a Japan psu in an American dc, would it work?
Im suprised no one hasn't thought of gutting the insides of the karaoke thingy and make so it could work like an external drive/SDcard for the Dreamcast. That way, you could use the GDI if you wanted or the hard drive/SDcard.
@@AdamKoralik If gut everything out, and just use it has a shell, region lock would become a non problem. Maybe finding a way to connect the hard drive/SDcard to the main board using the modem slot (via strip connector for e.g.
@@Gouveia100 Er.... that's not what I'm saying. I'm saying that because it was only released in Japan and in low numbers, most people wouldn't bother importing one just to gut it.
Jessey Lawson I already know that, its just I'm asking if the karaoke hardware itself can physically attach to a North American dreamcast. It looks interesting together, or is there some sort of thing blocking it preventing the two to attach together?
When he mentioned the Sega CD, it brought back the memories of me trying to set up my Sega CD, it took me forever to realize that I had to take off that piece that said "DO NOT REMOVE" or something along those lines.

@strictlysega Ah, well thanks for checking them out. I appreciate it. More are coming, I promise.
They were actually. Prototype photos are out there. If it had last another year, maybe even just six months, it would have been released.
There was a karaoke add-on for the Saturn...?
Wow dreamcast was really head of it's time
It's been a while since I saw this video, when did I turn a Dreamcast on in it?
@dilky71 You can't use VGA either. It only supports composite (and possibly RF).
@jrlegomaster I assume so, but like I said, I think karaoke discs are a specific type of format. I don't think regular music CDs will work.
@jrlegomaster If you're asking which I prefer, the Sega CD.
@jrlegomaster Music CDs? I think they have to be Karaoke formatted discs. In which case, probably. I think those things are region free.
The 64DD, I'd love to have that thing.
Ricky grows the best dope in Sunnyvale Trailer Park
Wow... Dreamcast had damn near everything didn't it? Truly the GREATEST.... CONSOLE.... EVER!!!!
Well, I always recommend the Dreamcast.
They were working on that actually.
But it never got finished.
Honestly, if it had been released, I doubt it would have been successful. Add-ons seldom are.
It was likely the development kit bios you saw.
My shoutout from like 3 years ago!! I think i forgot to thank u Adam
It's the spiritual successor, in more ways than one.
I like it because it makes your system look cooler
Hey, yes there is a GD-ROM that came with it originally. But you definitely can't get it from Sega's site anymore.
Thanks.
Maybe eventually I'll do a video on the software.
I'm a fan of it, yes.
@lemonlimestiv Thanks, thats the first time anyone has ever commented on it.
The ZIP Disk drive? That was never released. Just one prototype is out there, somewhere.
@MikeStutzzzz Someone might be able to, it might be worth looking into.
No accessory is region coded, it just tells you where it originates from.
@strictlysega Gameshark, Codebreaker, even the Utopia boot disc should launch a Japanese game on a PAL Dreamcast.
I'm glad you checked it out, feel free to check out the others. I do almost all the voices in every episode. :D
@strictlysega I have the Japanese maracas and the American game, and that works. So, I assume it would be true of any version.
I want to see someone stack multiple karaoke units.
I never got it to work with an American Dreamcast.
I don't own any karaoke discs to try unfortunately.
I like to respond if people take the time to comment.
@5585deathmage Ha, yeah that was kind of the point.
Oh, the Bleemcast beta might support one of those. But I highly doubt it.
@aztec005 Yeah, thats true. Its unfortunate.
Yep, that's how collector's items tend to work.
Yes It was a Hitachi unit that sat under the Saturn. He had the Hitachi Hi-Saturn model.
I don't own any others, so I can't be sure. But you're probably right.
@ORLANDOG5 Thanks.
This is one of the most intriguing I've seen from you so far. Would've been cool if they actually released the other stuff you talked about to the public. I also lol'd at the shout out. Keep it up!
Agreed.
This is cool. Didnt know about this till I was on ebay today and got curious and found your video. Thanks!!
Thanks.
@dilky71 I pride myself on that.
@hitachi088 I doubt any homebrew game works with this thing. I only paid $25.
Ok I'm waiting my package since 3 weeks from Japan. Thank you again Adam from France, you have a very good french accent :p
Japan gets all the cool stuff.
Somehow I get the feeling that the original Xbox was supposed to be a
Dreamcast add-on. This machine had incredible base/expandable functionality.
That would be a neat site.
@Dant2142 Impressive.
Let's be very clear here...
Dreamcast will forever be known as that little-white-box-of-awesomeness!
@RaGeQuiiT Thanks man.
I like your dreamcast stuff dude, you have a great collection
I haven't tried that, but I can assure you it doesn't explode.
There might be a way to play the songs on the disc. I'm not sure. But if you can't, then yeah its useless.
@stunycrew246 I admit the novelty value is nice, but its just not worth it.
If you can track down the one and only copy of those and give them to me, I'd be happy to make a video.
Yeah, I know.
It’s a bummer that the karaoke adapter’s only function was for karaoke. The adapter aesthetic-wise actually looks cool. Sorta like leaving the N64DD attached at all times for looks.
Just saying, it's unrealistic to assume I would have the one and only MP3 VMU unit that Sega made.
..Exactly the same way...?
@hegnia32 Thats what its there for.
@patrickallen13 Thanks.
...Because that's what it requires.
I'm not sure.
@bestsonicfanever Well I posted the video a year ago, so thats impossible, but you're welcome all the same.
Came here for ricky.
I'm here.
Those don't...exist...they were just prototypes or fan made.
Both.
Ha, thanks.
Yeah, I really only got it for collector's purposes.
I have no idea.
Yup. Homebrew, apps and emulators would be the next great thing to have on there too.
Check this out if you haven't already seen it. It shows the prototype working and he just uploaded the vid 2 weeks ago.

i scored a samba de amigo full playkit today... got a good deal.. but untill i score a pal version of the game is it possible to play the us or japanese?
im having trouble finding a pal version on ebay
@AdamKoralik but i wonder why that is, would you have more info on as to why the game discs are so weak?
Thanks
What format are the songs in? Maybe it's possible to host a local network server for the karaoke program to look in.
I still want one..
Get multiple units and attach them to each other. It would be like a karaoke tower.
I'm sure it wouldn't work, more likely it would actually damage something.
I'd assume so.
Why did that kind of Add-On come with a twin power and AV adapter?
I was wondering because I have discs with emulators and games on them, like Dream SNES and such, I would be willing to bet there is a way, Singit Star I believe is a Wii game but somebody converted it to Xbox 360 with custom songs, I will look more into it.
Get the zip drive and/or DVD prototype! You know you want it, and I need to see the video!
does it work with seaman and other microphone games?
As I recall it only works with the Karaoke "game."
@strictlysega ive seen everyone,, i dont know how but 2012 just snuck under my radar....
So like if you had this thing and a DVD player add-on and a disk-driver addon. You would have a TOWER OF DREAMCAST!!! xD
@AdamKoralik yes
music cds

i cant find the picture of the dvd player that was going to go on the bottom what exactly do i type in to find it
This is a prototype of the player.

I've heard that the reason this doesn't work on us machines is because of the power. This thing will actually explode. (Ok maybe not) but I were to put a Japan psu in an American dc, would it work?
Couldn't you make a modded version of Singit Star to use with this?
Well how would a Karaoke Add-On work on an American Dreamcast?
Im suprised no one hasn't thought of gutting the insides of the karaoke thingy and make so it could work like an external drive/SDcard for the Dreamcast. That way, you could use the GDI if you wanted or the hard drive/SDcard.
I doubt no one has thought of it. It's more due to the item being uncommon and regionally exclusive.
@@AdamKoralik If gut everything out, and just use it has a shell, region lock would become a non problem. Maybe finding a way to connect the hard drive/SDcard to the main board using the modem slot (via strip connector for e.g.

@@AdamKoralik Oh! OK. I get it now. I was saying that because i found a video of a fellow that bought one for 10$. Thats like dirt cheap.
Yeah I seen one online earlier today.
Did you try any other CD+G karaoke discs? I think they should work.
Wait, can you attach this to an American dreamcast? I plan to get it, but only for the look obviously lol
Jessey Lawson I already know that, its just I'm asking if the karaoke hardware itself can physically attach to a North American dreamcast. It looks interesting together, or is there some sort of thing blocking it preventing the two to attach together?
+videogamer004 I'm not sure how the software would react, but I'm sure you could probably attach it to an America Dreamcast hardware wise.
holy crap FINALLY he gave me a shoutout!!!!!
