It is amazing how we all do it a little different. You guys seem to have extra steps in there. Not sure they make a difference, however. I would want to check that the fin will be perpendicular with an angle gauge. How much masking tape do you go through a week? Its $7 bucks a roll here in Aust. Keep up the good work.
I sometimes do it a little different from job to job... Sometimes I do have some extra steps in, in this case I really wanted to make sure I did not get into the existing tinted laminate or nick the pinlines creating extra work, hence some of the extra steps and copious amounts of tape. Some guys don't cap the boxes, but I think that is important to do as most longboard box failures begin at the front edge of the box and capping helps strengthen and seal that area.

Did you use laminating resin or sanding resin or does it matter? Thanks
Laminating for doing the putty and the glass patch, then add surface agent to make it a sanding resin for the hot coat and gloss coat.
