You will definitely want both until you get them. I have the Dual Rec and still eventually want to get a nice Marshall, just haven't saved enough money lately.
Killer video! So final conclusion ... you just need both. and a Plexi... and a JCM900... and a JCM2000, and a Driftwood and a Friedman, and a 5150 and an Orange... aaaaaaaand a Fortin. oh and a 1x12 Crate combo.
I have a JCM800 2204 & a Mesa Solo Rec (both 50w) Both killer amps. I like the darker tone and higher gain of the Mesa, plus the 2nd channel sounds very much like the JCM800. The 800 is brighter and cuts through the mix better. My go to set up is the Mesa + my JCM900 SL-X in stereo. 1960 & Mesa Half back 4x12's, all V30's. FWIW: The 800's sound better with G12T-75's, IMHO. YMMV.
Wow, thank you! This is exactly what I wanted to hear when I opened this video! Amazing! I am 33 years old and since I was 12 my dream was Mesa, but as the years went by and I grew up, playing in bands I tried to squeeze out the most readable sound, without sand... Once I bought an AMT R2 preamp (in Russia they are cheap and popular), which repeats the sound of MESA, but with age I am increasingly drawn to the smoother 800, now I am convinced of this, it is so clean and balanced, it seems to me so smooth that you can squeeze out any sound from it, unlike MESA, which still has a lot of "grain", its "thing", you could say.... Do I understand correctly that SOLDANO will be something in between? And, my friend, amazing playing, I HATE SOLOs, but your solos are not annoying, they are wonderful! You are great! Respect! Greetings from Russia!
Great demo. Awesome playing...I had a Marshall JVM410. I used a sonic maximizer in the effects loop to push the gain along with 3 celestion vintage 30s and 1 GT12 speaker. Was a really awesome sound. Regret selling it.
Hey I was thinking, if you're ever wanting to try something different maybe you could do a series where you take an iconic amp and through the use of EQ pedals like the MXR 6 band in front and MXR 10 band EQ or PQ4 in the effects loop, make it sound like a different iconic amp? Like make the Mark IV sound like a Duel Rectifier or a F100 sound like a Mark IV? Just a thought. I dig your content man. I like getting fucked up and watching these shootouts when everyone is asleep haha
I have 3 Marshalls and they all sound different, one sounds VERY close to the Mesa, because I found a couple of Mesa schematics and adapted for one of the Marshalls - with special tube which you wouldn't believe it if I told you! But this is the 3rd video I watched comparisons on and I'm going to get a Mesa D-rectifier for my next amp.
Now I’m curious about how a blend of these would sound…..something along the lines of taking advantage of the recto low end and the 800’s mid range. Both sound excellent in this videos mix tho!
Both amps have sat very well in many professional mixes, but the marshalls have those in your face mids. The Mesas have those in your face lows that make up for it.
The dual rect on your dsl100hr vs dual rect video sounds way more aggressive with a bite compared to here. Was there something dialed different on that video? Here it sounds a little muddy
I rarely ever dial any amp in the same way. Constantly changing things to fit what guitar I'm working with or how I want things to sound. In this one you have to account for thee body of the JCM 800 and making sure that the Dual Rectifier doesn't sound like it disappears because of the perceived lack of mids in comparison to the JCM 800. Cheers -Ryan
@@Crypticmaskguitar gotcha! The eay the dual rect sounds in that video sounds so damn bestial! Maybe the guitar used there helped the tone as well! Whats the usual procedure when you record the guitar on your videos like? Is there processing added on the computer or just straight up mic recording ?
There is some minimal EQ done to cut some of the excess highs and lows. I don’t like to over process anything… defeats the purpose. I use a Neumann TLM 107 because of its ability to capture and maintain low end frequencies and doesn’t pick up the shrill high end like an SM57. Cheers -Ryan
Sorry I don’t write down my settings and I am constantly changing them. I find the key is always Volume. Once your walls are shaking then the frequencies are a little more balanced and responsive. Cheers -Ryan
I don't know where these JCM800's are getting all this gain. I played in a band in the late 80's with another guy that had one and he played a Melody Maker with a Bill Lawrence L500 in it and the amp had Malcolm Young kind of gain at the very most. Basically, I'm saying that the JCM800 was never considered a high gain amp and I just don't understand why some versions of it sound like this. Blows my mind after playing in a band with a guy that had one that sounded like a Kix record. He cut through the friggin mix like a champ though.
The Master Volume needs to be quite high and throw an Overdrive Pedal in front to boost the Guitar’s signal (Level Max, No Gain, and Tone set to taste). That’s all that is needed. Otherwise… you might be lucky to play a bit of swamp rock without a boosted guitar signal. Cheers -Ryan
Marshall has more harmonics, more balanced sound with low end and low mid at my taste and less sand, especially on rhythm, less noisy highs - it just sounding more compressed, compact compares to Recto. Mesa is more angry and aggressive on solo. But, Marshall totally sounds better to me.
I brought a Legendary Tones Lynch Mod for my JMP 2203, now I actually play it. Even when played loud I find 2203's don't quite have enough gain, even boosted.
The Boogie sounds better with drop C tuning… the Marshall sounds better at everything else. And I own a Triple Recto so I’m not being a fanboy. Just honest
Both amps were on my bucket list before watching this video, both amps are still on my list after watching this video.
You will definitely want both until you get them. I have the Dual Rec and still eventually want to get a nice Marshall, just haven't saved enough money lately.

EXACTLY! Cheers -Ryan
Jcm800 dominate the rectifier in this one. Great video.
Fair play mate, I look forward to your high gain/metal vids..

Exactly the video comparison iv been looking for ..thanks
Sounds great! Marshall. + Mesa FTW... If i had to pick 1, though, it would be the Mesa. It's just massive and beatiful
awesome as always. you also make me want every amp you demo.
Marshall hands down. Great cut!
Great demo. Awesome playing...I had a Marshall JVM410. I used a sonic maximizer in the effects loop to push the gain along with 3 celestion vintage 30s and 1 GT12 speaker. Was a really awesome sound. Regret selling it.
Love the Recto's aggression here
Great comparison! Thanks.
Both those combined together would be massive
Both sound amazing! Great video! The Marshall leaves room for the bass player!
If your Metallica, AJFA Era, you don't need that room.
Thanks for making this.
Any way to shoot out the Silver Jubilee and the Dual Rec? And/or do some blending of the 2 amps?
Loved this video btw, very insightful
Duel rectifier all day. Jcm800 is great too, but nothing sounds as big and pissed off as a duel rectifier
Mesa DR is just brutal
Those are some mean riffs 👍

It’s a great idea. Just not my style. I’ve never been a big EQ pedal guy. Cheers -Ryan
Had both amps and some others but am all the time getting back to Marshall. Nothing bleeds through the mix with those angry mids like Marshall.
I wanna hear them blended

Both are great, Marshall is my fav.
Killer fkn groove!!! Love it.
What is your favorite tube amp for the tight metal tone?!
Ha……first!! Read em and weep! Great video bro, as these are two of my favorite amps in existence.
Now I’m curious about how a blend of these would sound…..something along the lines of taking advantage of the recto low end and the 800’s mid range. Both sound excellent in this videos mix tho!
I will probably do a video showing the blend you can get from both amps. eventually. Cheers -Ryan
both great amps. I prefer the Marshalls tone but the Boogie is more versitile.
I prefer both LOL. Ferrari or Lamborghini
DR sounded great by itself, but in the mix you could hear the JCM800 hitting all the right frequencies the DR is missing.
Both amps have sat very well in many professional mixes, but the marshalls have those in your face mids. The Mesas have those in your face lows that make up for it.
Both sound great, but if I had to choose it would be the mesa all day. You can dial in channel 2 on the mesa to get that Marshall sound.
wish you blended them together - it can be magical in combination.
Killer riffs btw

Metal🤘🏼
Hi ! Is it possible to have the settings of the marshall and the pedals for the test?
Thanks in advance !
Sorry I don’t write down my settings and I am constantly changing them. I find the key is always Volume. Once your walls are shaking then the frequencies are a little more balanced and responsive. Cheers -Ryan
Mesa all the way!
adorei seu video, muito bom!!!

Paired would be monstrous

Use both thats the og tom delonge setup
Marshall gives more clarity

Great Video. I Play a Recto Multiwatt, my Buddy Play a Marshall DSL. Together they Sound fantastic.
Keep up the good work.🤟🏻
800 more clean power
Always use a ts9
Mesa sounds thin in comparison 😮
the facial expressions alone are worth watching the video.
Yeah... it gets pretty bad! hahaha! Cheers -Ryan
I absolutely hate it when I click on an amp shootout or review and the guy starts playing U2 and John Mayer tones like he's BB King.
I'm not sure BB King could play U2 or John Mayer, on account of the Diabetes. Cheers -Ryan
The Boogie sounds better with drop C tuning… the Marshall sounds better at everything else. And I own a Triple Recto so I’m not being a fanboy. Just honest
I dont like amps or pedals that have this fizzy top. I like it better when the distortion happens on the lower frequencies that the Marshall do.
Marshall sounds better to my ears….
Dual Rec = Pantera JCM 800 = Metallica
I like 2203X better here. The Mesa sounds a little too dark.
