The first thing I notice is that you have a high chance that your first swing is going to get stuck and now you’re focusing your whole body on recovering your weapon. If the other person doesn’t wait for you, that could lose you a fight. There’s a sword fighting reenactment guy who used his battle axe on a home invader, and he got one good hit in the chest and the rest of the encounter was wrestling with the guy trying to get another swing. The guy was injured, but left because he wasn’t winning the wrestling match, it was a stalemate. I think it’s harder than people think. By all means carry weapons and practice with them, but don’t think it makes you safe. The fastest and best disarm guy I ever met, would misfire a dangerous percentage of the time. You video him doing it five times, two of which he would have died, and save the one where he snatched it in two frames. He still shouldn’t put himself where he counts on that, is my point. Don’t play with stupid people- focus on what you were doing and don’t sidetrack for ego or to teach someone a lesson. That’s all I’m saying.

Estwing makes a much better version of the sog tomahawk, and cold steel just came out with a pretty nice all metal tomahawk, i think they would compare pretty well, the biggest disadvantage to a tomahawk is having a short cutting edge, which means you really have to practice with it to be accurate, but if you miss a lot you can wreck them depending on construction, i have seen the sog one break a few times, always just under the bottom screw that holds the heads on the shaft.

There's several anecdotal accounts of tomahawks being used in H2H in the GWoT (by conventional troops and SOF personnel) and Vietnam War. They seem to have done the job, more or less. Not to mention the rich history of the tomahawk and hatchet in general as a weapon in times past: WW1 trench raids, various American Indian tribes and the irregular units they inspired in the 17th/18th/19th centuries, and of course fairly similar Medieval weapons. That's not to say the concerns are unfounded, but I think they're fairly proven against people rather than just zombies and robots :P

The cold steel has an articulated sheath that can be left on, and used as a bludgeoning weapon. I used a Dremel to create multiple grooves on the handle for a better grip on mine. The spike on the backside is wicked.
Enjoyed watching this video. New sub here. I have all three. My favorite was the Kangee, and it still rides in my main urban go-bag. But now, it’s number two. I took the head off of a SOG Voodoo Mini Tomahawk and put it on the longer handle of the SOG Tactical Hawk. It’s light enough for efficient maneuvering, and really packs a punch. The CS is just a beater for me and I don’t mind loaning it out if I’m with a group headed up to the high country. Amazingly to me, not everyone carries a tomahawk into the bush....
The thing about tactical Tomahawks is, that Cold Steel, United Cutlery, Sog etc. produce them cheap in China and sell them expensive here. Now you get the exact same tomahawks for half or third of the prices from other company’s (or label-less) from eBay shops, which are absolutely exactly the same ones (at least most of the standard versions, there might be some better models). The problem is, that CS and such companys get these from bigger contractors. The same is with many of their swords. Lot of stuff for CS is produced by Windlass in India, who then again produce their own stuff and Deepeeka in India produces stuff for Windlass and sells the same models under their own name as well. So obviously one has to be very aware for what prices these things are sold by what company. Anyways as usual a great video. You should try out Hema sometime.
The SOG one bounced off a tree when I threw it and stuck in my thigh a few months ago… it almost hit an artery too. in other words, I’m gonna stick to a gun 😂
I've had the SOG one since 2008. I've reground/edged the head and the spike and added a couple layers of hockey tape and two layers of digi cam cloth grip tape to the handle (that did wonders). I also added a lanyard loop to the shaft, so I don't lose it during swing or rebound. That said I'd love to see you test a 20 ounce rock hammer/rock pick.
Brilliant test of all three. I love tomahawks as weapons. The Vikings and Apaches kicked ass with those badboys. Maybe wear gloves next time. Then again, it don't hurt icy Mike. Respect. Pain is weakness leaving the body. Keep safe mate. What's gonna be next???ps. I love the safety measures.
Tomahawk is all in the wrist. I have spent alot of time with various axes and hatchets doing tree work so it is a comfortable weapon for me. I prefer a cold steel spike hawk with a 20" hickory handle that I shaped a stop in the bottom and wrapped in grip tape. My wife has RA and gripping issues and she keeps in her vehicle a SOG tactical tomahawk with at taped handle and lanyard.. as always, all bladed tools we keep are shaving razor sharp. .. A light weight tomahawk with a somewhat longer than average handle in the hands of someone with good grip strength and wrist dexterity is highly effective and itimidating.
yeah the cold steel is bearded but if you hit a guy once and its stuck thats his problem and human flesh is soft so hit him gets stuck just pull it out the beard will rip is flesh
We've dug our holes and hallowed caves, Put goblin foes in shallow graves This day our work is just begun In the mines where silver rivers run. Beneath the stone the metal gleams Torches shine on silver streams Beyond the eyes of he spying sun In the mines where silver rivers run.
I have the SOG and the CKRT. I find the Chogan's handle is kind of finicky, making it hard to really strike with the spike end. Also, the shock of impact goes straight to the hand, making chopping hard. The head design is good, though. Both are good, but I find the SOG a bit easier to use ( it's also cheaper).
The tomahawk was historically used paired with some sort of knife to offset the weakness of the tomahawk. This includes if/when the primary edge gets stuck in an enemy. The cool thing about the tomahawk is that you can purposefully use it to hook and control the enemy, which was also a common technique when paired with a knife. My preference is also for the Cold Steel Trench Hawk, but I also like their line of more traditional hawks. I have a SOG Fasthawk as well, which is just a smaller version of the one you used in the video. It doesn't give me the reach advantage of a large hawk, but it's faster and more usable in CQB. The CRKT looks cool, but makes the mistake of putting the thing to give you a more sure grip in the wrong place. Cool vid!
We have some data on tomahawks used against people, historical and modern, and depending on shape, location you strike and the length of the head, it can very easily get lodged in bone or in flesh. I'd also personally choose one of cold steels more traditional hawks over these "tacticool" options or go with something more native american in inspiration. Made me deeply uncomfortable watching some of those swings. Either over swings or deflections are so dangerous and I've seen first hand what untrained people with unfamiliar weapons can do to themselves.
I feel like you'd be better off just going to home depot and getting an Estwing hatchet. Seems like a regular hatchet would be more robust and more comfortable to swing repeatedly.
The injury to the finger is why I wear gloves when using weapons. They don't have to be steel gauntlets, but anything helps. The other thing you might try with a tomahawk is hooking and sweeping attacks. The old battle axe technique of hooking behind the knee and dumping the opponent to the ground is a deadly technique. Yeah, I know, you probably already thought of that...
My first pick is the Cold Steel Trench Hawk: amzn.to/37efdq8 but you make sure you check the description for my final opinions on each tomahawk.

You should try out Hema sometime.
imagine you're just hiking through the woods when you come across......
R.A Salvatore is my favorite Author, nice to see a Bruenor Battlehammer reference in the video :)
The SOG one bounced off a tree when I threw it and stuck in my thigh a few months ago… it almost hit an artery too. in other words, I’m gonna stick to a gun 😂
"Squeeze that purple shit out"
That's your bruised flesh!
9:30 I'm an axe throwing instructor and if I was ever on vacation near Icy Mike, Jay and Nate I'd be honored to teach them all some axe throwing 😂
Would love that
Let’s goooooo
@@hard2hurt I will definitely message you if I'm ever going to SC so we can make it happen 🪓🪓
Good to see Jay again
Y'all have too much fun and it's awesome.

Neighbor 1: Are those three men murdering someone in the next yard over?!
Neighbor 2: Nah, just Icy Mike again.
Icy Mike name dropped Bruenor Battlehammer. Forgotten realms knowledge on point.
“WELCOME TO EARF” might be my favorite quote from this channel 🤣😂🤣
I've had the SOG one since 2008. I've reground/edged the head and the spike and added a couple layers of hockey tape and two layers of digi cam cloth grip tape to the handle (that did wonders). I also added a lanyard loop to the shaft, so I don't lose it during swing or rebound.
That said I'd love to see you test a 20 ounce rock hammer/rock pick.
11:19 I love the full lap you did there
Why is my Hello Kitty on the ground 🤣🤣
Brilliant test of all three. I love tomahawks as weapons. The Vikings and Apaches kicked ass with those badboys. Maybe wear gloves next time. Then again, it don't hurt icy Mike. Respect. Pain is weakness leaving the body. Keep safe mate. What's gonna be next???ps. I love the safety measures.
Not that Vikings ever used tomahawks...
I have actually used the coldsteel hawk when I was working at for an axe range. I like it! But for throwing it’s light.
NO HE DIDN'T BREAK IT, THAT'S ICY MIKE LMAO☠️☠️☠️
Icy Mike: "Which of these hurt worst?"
Robot: "Your betrayal."
"Please listen"... I can't believe you made me get emotional about a treadmill.
I hope 🤞 your finger gets better soon. Thank you for sacrificing your body to make great content.
"Oaf" is an under-appreciated insult.
yeah the cold steel is bearded but if you hit a guy once and its stuck thats his problem and human flesh is soft so hit him gets stuck just pull it out the beard will rip is flesh
Humanity’s greatest threat….The coconut! Great video as always!
10:44 The King of Mithral Hall
We've dug our holes and hallowed caves,
Put goblin foes in shallow graves
This day our work is just begun
In the mines where silver rivers run.
Beneath the stone the metal gleams
Torches shine on silver streams
Beyond the eyes of he spying sun
In the mines where silver rivers run.
This is why aliens don't visit us.
I have no quarrel with aliens... it's robots.
You guys single handedly started the war between humans and robots
The spin hit on the coconut was fantastic.
Cool vid!
Thanks for the advice, I had a problem with mine getting stuck.
Huh I never knew what crkt stood for thanks Mike. Also love the Bruenor name drop haha
"Why are my Hello Kitties outside?"🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
12:45 Oh you guys. Reenacting that scene from Office Space.
"Get Bruenor Battlehammer out of here" a great line Mike that everyone missed lol
That "welcome to earf" in the beginning sent me. Legendary 🤣
Awesome video guys. At 13:08, anyone else getting that "Office Space" printer vibe? Lol
Loved that office space beatdown on the robot fellas!
I always wanted to get a Cold Steel trench hawk. Never pulled the trigger on it though.
It's a nice piece of gear.
