As an Aston owner I simply have to say, Thank God for Bamford with their advice, integrity and knowledge. To find this level of information available 'for free' is a boon to all owners and to those who are contemplating ownership. Thank you for all you say and do.

Always very good information to have before buying an Aston Martin... I wish I was on your side of the pound and visit your workshop and get some work done.

Great info. Very knowledgeable stuff. Thanks to you I ended up returning a lemon DB9 I bought a couple of years ago that had the ticking small end bush failure. Ended up buying a higher spec one that's been brilliant ever since.

I thought some of the early DB9 catastrophic engine failures regarding oil starvation were often due to the specification of an overly-long oil dipstick which led to consistently low oil levels and was subsequently corrected by fitting a shorter dipstick - I'm surprised this didn't get a mention! Why is this important to me? Because my DB9 was purchased having had a warranty engine replacement done at 36k miles! It carried on superbly after that BTW!

Be interesting to know exactly when were the " Cosworth " years of the V12 build.

Great informative video, I’ll keep an eye out for those issues when I finally decide to buy, hopefully in a month or so

Good for you! I love my 2006 V8 4.3. Runs great and dead smooth through the rev band.

I’m curious if the coil pack misfire and catalyst ingestion problem affects ALL 5.9 V12 engines or if at some point the misfire problem was corrected with a new coil setup?
And if so, is there a certain model year or VIN demarcation point where the engines are safe from that problem. Thanks 🙏🏻

Yes, in a separate video, Bamford Rose discussed that one of the original misfire issues was due to the earlier engine using coil packs with only two electrical leads (Positive and Negative). Once the coil packs were revised with three leads (Positive, Ground, and Negative), there was a much smaller chance of electrical interference.

The 6.0 V12 is essentially two Ford Duratec 3.0 V6s married together. Other than some oil leaks with age and the occasional tapping cam follower, those engines will run a long time as long as you don't overheat them or run them low on oil.

Good morning, thank you for the video, which manufacture built the 2014 Aston Martin Vanquish engines?

Look at ANY of the other high performance brands - and they ALL have distinct issues... Merc/BMW head bolts, Ferrari fuel systems catching fire and so on!

The cats that break up are the primary ones in the manifold? Can this be avoided by running a cat less manifold and relocating a sport cat downstream?

Bamford Rose, my engine does this clicking on an ‘06 4.3. Been doing it forever and not gotten any louder. It doesn’t tick when cool, but gets audible when warm. Is the ticking dangerous? Or just more of an annoyance?

      Maybe it's a diesel model

    • @pacrat90

Quite common (actually guaranteed) on 4.7, it may be the noisy dry sump pump - seems to only get noisy when warm. It's like a tractor sound.

What are the odds/how frequent will the tick issue appear in 4.3 v8 vantages (what about 4.7)
I don't want to buy a car that will eventually sooner or later ask me to take the engine out and pay the car's price twice.
If it is not present (the tick) when I try to make it show up following your procedure, anything that can indicate the car might be more likely to under grow this issue in the future?
