Name your C1, C2 etc custom jpeg settings so you know what they are.. And set up auto iso settings to your preferred shooting. example set 1 daylight, set 2 lower light, set 3 night or very dark.
Just want to thank you Omar. You included "shoot without a lens" setting in your camera setup. This got me thinking - as I'd been changing this setting whenever I changed from Fuji lens to older MF lenses ever since I got an adapter. Yesterday, I switched from my 7Artisan lens back to Fuji 27mm and it worked just fine - without having to hunt through menus to change settings. I'd always assumed this would negate the electronic connections on Fuji lenses - I was wrong and this is so liberating. Many thanks to you and your channel.
For when I shoot with a flash, I like to keep one of the buttons set to turn the exposure preview off to keep the EVF and screen from being too dim to compose.
Shoot without card I prefer to turn off. When I gave camera to my mom once, but forgot to put sd card, she did entire day of shooting not knowing that no picture was saved (she isn't an expert in modern cameras and tech etc). I also turn down highlights and shadows. For touch screen I chose timer and RGB histogram (I tend to do long exposures often that's why timer). Yeah, had some fun with film simulation bracketing, although I didn't expect camera to do one jpeg and one raw for each film sim (though it's only for jpegs and one raw).
Very useful, thanks. I would definitely add Shooting with no CARD OFF. It would be very unusual to shoot without a card, so this cannot be a default setting.
Thanks for the quick tips! What is so surprising is that I cannot find a single thorough in depth guide on how to set up a Fuji camera. Not talking about a five minute video? Just came from Sony and ambassadors and regular users have 30-1 hour plus videos that go through all of the settings, the menu options one by one etc.
This was really handy - thank you! I had set my rear dial button press to punch in for focus check (I, too, back-button focus), but didn't know about the lens focus ring punch-in option.
Activating the back button focus is crucial for me and I also attribute the function button (the FN button on top of the screen) for the AF-C custom settings. This allows me to modify the autofocus settings for continuous mode on the fly, very handy when photographing wildlife or sports.
I have the front custom button set to the focus assist and the back wheel to control the film sims, the top custom button is set to eye/face on/off and definitely have the touch screen off, nosing the screen is impossible to avoid
I've been a back-button focus guy for years and, like you, I shoot most of the time in Manual focus mode using the rear button for AF. (The one labeled AF-L because...OCD) With AF-C, I find it is easier to let the shutter button activate focus. With moving subjects, I want the camera to continue focusing all the way through the process of pressing the shutter.
@S Tra I find that when I'm using AF-C, I never take my finger off the focus button so it's easier to half-press the shutter button continuously than keep the AF-L button depressed while also pressing the shutter when I take a shot. If you keep your camera permanently set to AF-C, as I did with my Canon 5D-series bodies, then what I suggested wouldn't make sense. In my experience, Fuji's AF-C isn't nearly as good when used this way.
I use the front button as my back button because my second finger automatically rests there when shooting and I never have to feel about for a button at the back. I use the AFL button as an alternative playback button for using the camera one-handed.
Hi Omar, thanks for the video! Would love to see some of your looks! I always end up dissatisfied if I mess with shadows/highilights/sharpness/noise reduction etc. settings , so I leave them at 0 :/
Hi Omar! I have the front buttom to activate the Boost mode, it is helpful when I'm shooting in quiet places but suddenly I see something that needs a bit of more power. Also, the front wheel is to finely regulate the shutter speed, and the back one to choose my focus zoom in manual focusing assistance :D
Awesome Omar and i am desperately waiting Video on XT3. Really thanks and appreciate your effort to towards our community. Your Awesome buddy and let me tell you one thing you have excellent skills to make understand the things with practical session. I am following you since my XT2 and recently I got my XT3. After looking your videos. 👍👍👍👍
Will you go into detail to discuss tip #10 In a future video? Lol. I set up my custom settings same as yours when I first started with Fuji a few months back! But I think that was only one custom setting. Lol. Really helped me out a lot 😁
I went last week to my local camera shop to buy an X-T3 as an upgrade to my X-T20. It turns out someone had been in earlier that day to trade in his X-T4. It didn't fit in his workflow. It had a shutter count of less than 1000. Paid $500 off the retail price and came with an extra battery and the Fujifilm charger. I feel pretty lucky! Thanks for the timely video!
Those cameras are so customizable! They only miss one feature: disabling the red indicator led on the back. Better not having it in your eye when making astrophotography in the dark
Love it! Great video. I've just switched from 5Diii to X-T3 after giving up professional photography but still wanting something... meaty. I've been working my way through things and experimenting and so far my biggest gripe is that if I have it set to EVF + eye sensor (to save battery life) that I can't use the LCD to look at the menus - it's driving me nuts. Is there a workaround for this? Other than hitting the 'view mode' button continually to cycle through the options?
I have mine set to shoot raw+jpeg. I like using custom film simulations for my jpegs. So..that leads me to swipe. I have one of my swipe gestures set to bring up my list of custom settings so I can switch between them quickly.
Have you looked into the E-Front Curtain Shutter? I have mine set to EF+M+E as from what I hear, the EF may double the life of the shutter since it is essentially only using the mechanical second curtain to close and it may also make the shutter slightly quieter. Or something like that... I'm still experimenting. Also... The clip at the end... me too, my friend. Me too.
Thank you Omar. I don’t even have a Fuji and I watch all your videos! One day I hope to have one though. You’re funny and so helpful, much appreciated 😄🙏
Thanks for the tips Omar! Fun and informative as always. Question: I seem to recall seeing somewhere Ho you can change the number of items shown in the Q menu (4, 8, 12, 16). I’d like to add to the default 8 offered in movie mode on my X-T4. Thanks!
Hey Omar, how comes that you never tried the Fujifilm X-Pro3 here on your channel? Not your preferred form factor or never got a chance to test one without buying? Would love to see a video on the XPro3 from you. And also a custom film simulation setting rundown? Okay, stay safe and thanks for keep on doing these videos 😀
Great video! Just got my x100v, first digital camera in over 10 years. Question about focus: when I hold the shutter button down halfway it usually goes from blurry to focused back to blurry. I’m sure this is a newbie thing. I’m set to Single mode and set to AF on the right side of the screen. Thanks for any help!
It's probably showing you a "depth of field preview." So you'll see the blurry parts of the photograph. Or...sometimes the Fujifilm cameras hunt before they're happy. lol
Hi Omar, does humidity affects our camera? Should we have to store our camera and lens in dehumidifier cabinet? Pls do video on this if possible.. thank you in advance
Absolutely! Have tried several FN buttons and this is the best. I work in M most of the time. AF mode set to ALL. SS dial to T and ISO dial to A. Aperture ring is manual. Right thumb works back command dial for SS, right forefinger works front command dial for ISO, and 2nd finger is on front FN button for focus. Works well!
@@kotzjohn Drat. I found a flaw in the system. :-( With the battery grip attached, and shooting portrait (i.e. camera on it's side), that button no longer lines up.
@@david.stachon Not sure what you mean by "that button no longer lines up." I have a battery grip on and shoot a lot with the 100-400 for birds. A bit more awkward in portrait mode than in landscape but no problem. Use it on both XT2 and XT3. Maybe you mean the from FN button and shutter button are not aligned? Correct, but you get used to it.
Omar I’ve been following you since I got my Fuji X-T20! I want to upgrade my camera but confused if I should change to different brands? But I bought lots of lenses for Fujifilm already and I don’t want to start fresh! What Fujifilm would you suggest? You take great photos! I like to travel and fujifilm been so handy. I like taking travel videos as well! Any suggestions?
good walkthrough, I am just annoyed that shooting in full manual ISO and shutter locks out manual exposure compensation, I thought this was only a thing with my X-T100 but I guess it is just a thing with all Fujis
Hi Omar, Could you create a video with all your jpeg custom looks and the use for each of them? I know that you have several videos for different situations, but it could be a good starting point to have them all together. Thanks!
HI, Great review! I wish I had this 2 months ago when bought my XT3. Been 'following you', meaning channel ;-) and helped (really) a lot on my sports settings. Cheers Note: found that we are pretty aligned with the same settings but at least I'm going to recheck mine in 7 out of 15, so still improving thanks to your review.
Hello Omar, I enjoy your videos.one question, do you know if fujifilm is going to fix their app so that firmware update for lenses can be done in camera?txs
Great video and great options but you forgot the most important one... Shoot without SD card OFF!!!! No one wants to think they are capturing and saving images when in fact you’ve shot nothing but previews!!! And your SD cards are sat on your desk at home!!! 😂😂😂
Just curious why don't you use the EF-M-E for Shutter Type. Would make it easier on the mechanical shutter wouldn't it. Is there a difference with the results when using Electronic vs Mechanical at the lower shutter speed?
Hi Omar, I know that FujiFilm camera's are not your first choice professionally. Does that lead to any problems or does the app recognise the camera you have active and paired. Question for Omar and all: If you were going to Europe for a 2 week trip, and you need to pack light, what lens/lenses would you bring for an xt30? I own the 18-55, the 50-140, and the 12mm Samyang. Do I get the 16-80 and bring just the 1 lens? Do I get the 55-200 and bring 3 lenses? I'm not bringing the 50-140 as it's way too heavy but I also don't want to miss a longer reach. Should I forget a long range lens altogether? The FOMO is killing me.
Why do you switch to 425 AF points? All it really does is slow you down when you're trying to select an AF point. It doesn't do anything when you're using an AF mode other than single-point.
I changed the screen to no touch at all. I’ve got an xt-200 and I think my nose would change settings on the screen when I look through the viewfinder 😹
I was having a strange issue with that with my x-t20 where the focus point would randomly (it seemed) be scattered all over the place and I'd have to catch it and recenter and swear. Turns out the focus point location via touch screen was on ( I never use the touch screen), and, apparently, even when the screen is off (I use the EVF most of the time) touching the sceen would jump the focus point. Since I use the EVF it might have been my nose some times, or just a finger. Tricky part was that even with screen off it was responding to touch. weird. SEMI RANDOM EDIT: I wish I had the EVF from the X-t3....
Is there any reason why turning off shutter AF for AF-C? I found that I have already been used to shutter AF rather than back button AF in all cases... (except AF during Manual focus mode)

Wonderful video! I did everything you suggested here and it's a great start for a new Fujifilm user, except for the Fujifilm app, which sucks :)
Simple and to the point . Thumbs up
Thanks Omar 😃
Also Noise Reduction set to -4
totally.. Part of my jpeg looks
I've always heard that. It sounds confusing because I would think 0 would be no noise reduction. So I'm wondering what -4 does to the image.
Garret Gray nope. -4 is off and 0 is like the standart
Omar Gonzalez Photography is this setting only for JPEG or, can/should you use with Raw+Fine?
Interesting... but why all this "aversion" to noise reduction? :)
Cool 😎 many thanks 👍

Would love to see some of your looks! I always end up dissatisfied if I mess with shadows/highilights/sharpness/noise reduction etc. settings , so I leave them at 0 :/
Had to pause every few seconds to take notes. Great stuff. I will add "MF/AF: MF Setting -> Focus Assist: Focus Peak Highlight" for manual lenses.

You asked to leave a like with "please, please", that's why I did it!
Omar - does any Fuji lens has focus ring like leica glass? Which is short trail from minimal focus to infinity.
The settings can be applied on the x-s10 as well?
Any chance to coustom switch to still to movie mode.

olá, você deve colocar fotografar sem lente quando usa um adaptador para outra marca ? obrigada Brasil!!!

Omar Gonzalez Photography oh I think my eyes need better AF if I missed that fact, boost mode it is!
What button should i set my histogram?
