How was your first model? I think Ciara has done an outstanding job! :) If you want to support the channel check out - www.patreon.com/broadswordwargaming Thanks! 😀
My first models were a handful of space marines too. I wanted to paint them Ultramarines, but when I got the blue basecoat I noticed I had the wrong kind of blue, it was kinda too dark. So from that point I changed my mind and painted them as crimson fists!
Yes! Crimson fists are great, I'm a big fan of any imperial fist based chapter.. my first models were eldar guardians. A nice REALLY thick coat of yellow with a blue head. Haha. She did a much better job.
I'm still waiting on my 1st order to arrive befor I can start painting myself big pile of nids can't wait 😁(also cool vid very interesting (1st time seeing the channel too))
A metal Deathwing captain about 20 years ago. And nowhere near as well done as hers.
My first models were back in the day when Ral Partha minis were about 20mm and seriously hard to paint. There was no such thing as hobby paint - just enamels. My first attempts were dire. That said, Clara's attempt is loads better than mine would have been, even with bigger models and better paints.
"Paint it all blue but in a half-arsed way."
he most merciless put down of the Ultramarines I've ever heard.
Haha, unknowingly puts down the poster boys. She's a keep alright. 🤣🤣
"Moving on to the gold"
"The gold, yeah this was gonna be my favourite part because gold pretty."
The Emperor would like her
The Emperor protects
@@BroadswordWargaming he does
All colors are inferior to glorious gold.
If she still loves gold give her a minotaur chapter to build
@@swaglord7238 all hail Balthasar
My partner watched this with me. Never touched a mini.
She wants to have a go now.
You guys should do a whole series. From painting to eventually playing a little game/letting her pick her own army
It's on it's way. Next step will be learning the basics and some extra steps, then it's onto whatever models Ciara wants to paint :) It's exciting to see how she will get on! 😀
This. Awesome. Same with my hobby of shooting. Last class I was helping with we had quite a lot of women and girls. Almost as many as guys. I was so happy. Young women are less scared of trying hobbies that are considered "male" hobbies.
Definitely agree here 👍🏽💪🏽
I think i can personally speak for the whole internet here, We like her.
She will be glad to hear it 😁
@@BroadswordWargaming Also eager to see her next models.
I only clicked this link because she was on the preview. Sorry not sorry. Subscribed 🤣
I don't.
@@JC.Denton. That's nice.
"They've painted it blue in a half-assed way and that's what I'm gonna do". That is epic.
This was a very fine first go.
She said "arsed," in an incurably Irish way, sir. Get your quote right.
Jeremy Griffin
Jesus Christ man, it’s funny, let it go.
@@zetasann You're Irish, aren't you?
She did great using what GW supplied in the box, and is very accurate for what a completely new person would experience if they had no one to show them any painting tricks. What a great sport, the Wine took it to a 10!
Haha, yeah, she had a good time. We tried to keep it as genuine as possible, so I didn't help her! 😅 she's come on a long way now too, and is loving it. 😊
Somewhere Duncan is screaming into the void..."Shake your pots and two thin coats....FFS!!!" lol And Ciara did amazing, and if she looks on Ebay at all the "Pro painted" minis that she did way better than, she should be proud!
Haha, Duncan does not approve!
Yeah, she did an awesome job.. I'm looking forward to her next model. 😀
You guys look so official in your matching shirts!
I know right.. what a lucky lady!
So, Ciara came to the eternal internal debate of every man; moustache, or no moustache...
🤣🤣 That is one of life's big questions.
This one came back up. Just as entertaining to watch as the first time. Hope she's still gaming.
Absolutely smashed it for a first attempt! Wine is obviously some miracle elixir for painting! I haven't painted for 26 years but finding myself here, drawn back with a strange urge to paint again!!
You can do it! It's good fun and really satisfying to have painted stuff, whether you collect or play. 😀 and I think you're right, wine is the key we've all been missing! 🤣
@@BroadswordWargaming by golly I am going to do it! Now I wonder if there are any of my old models still around in my parents attic?! Warhammer circa '91-'94 could be fun!!
I just painted my first model about a week ago! It was so fun and relaxing, can't wait to paint some more. x3
Ah amazing! Keep at it and keep on going. Follow some guides, then have a play around with different things. 😀
This video was mandatory viewing for my kiddo in order for her to paint her first minis
Oh amazing! We have a little one here, she 6, and painted her first space marine .. now she want disgusting models, like trolls etc ha. Bless. It's great got the kids into it, keeps them quiet for a short while! PEACE AND QUIET. ha
I think this highlights why we need the stores and the guys as they are so helpful. My daughter started recently and our local store manager was brilliant.
Nice! I think you're right, having someone to give you tips, even basic ones, really helps you along. She will be back, with more knowledge and paints! 😁
This was cool. I use play this with a friend in the 90s original WH40K space marine pack that came with orcs too. Many years later I'm only just getting back into this but with my 7 year old and he just likes painting tbf. Just bought this pack and some extra paints. I don't even know where to start no more with purchases etc lol
Aw that sounds great. That's the good thing about this hobby, you can pass it on to kids. We've got a 6 year old at home, she painted her first model the other day.. a space marine, holding flowers, to give to his girlfriend haha.
Get into it man, 9th edition drops tomorrow, it's a good time to get back into it. 😀
Nice job Ciara!! Welcome to the hobby. 🎉
"Is this part of the fun?" feels like a quote worthy of a shirt.
Good job though, I would imagine that painting your first mini on camera isn't the most relaxing of experiences.
Haha, that's true! Time to make a t shirt with her face on. 🤣
.. and what do you mean It's not relaxing, you love spending 6 hours in the "studio".
That's no worries, but doing something for the first time and under the harsh scrutiny of RUclips is rough.
@@snejjames6499 enter.. the wine!
@@BroadswordWargaming Hehe, I figured as much.
"is this part of the fun?"
lol, fantastic
As someone just getting into the hobby I've been finding painting super intimidating. Seeing how well this turned out with just a few paints and a brush has helped ease that anxiety a ton. Thanks for this.
Arm on the nubbin, headlights on! Love it!
I did a similar video on my channel convincing my girlfriend to play a game! So much fun can be had introducing someone new to the hobby 😛
Haha I know, I loved the terminology.
She did a great job and thoroughly enjoyed it. I saw your video, looked good. 😁
I feel you and I should have a channel v channel bash soon!
Broadsword Wargaming absolutely man! I’d love to head over to Ireland at some point! Was intending on it this year but Covid has kinda wrecked that, may still work. Was looking towards August time!
@@EntmootVideos 1 game at mine and 1 game at yours!? I best get on with my Rohan bois!
I know, it's sucks, I've had to cancel two UK trips already! 😕 would be good to do a little collab.
I think you've done an amazing job for your first model and it's great you want to do more. Well done
Great job it's good to see new players that are excited to learn can't wait for the next video.
Girl that was a spectacular job!! You should be super proud of that marine. Mine still are a struggle to get right and you did it awesome the first time! Props
Bloody hell! I wish I was anywhere as good as that at painting...
Haha, I know! 🤣🤣 me too.
This is exactly what i was looking with the same kit!!!! thank you!
“I think I could’ve done a better job had the instructions been in anyway decent.”
Decent Warhammer instructions? Lol.
🤣🤣 I know! You think they'd have gotten better.. but no. Haha.
This is soooooo much better than my first model. The Grim Dark now has new star. Welcome Ciara!
Wow she did absolutely amazing for that being a first mini! She's such a goofball too!
Well done! Good instincts with half-assing the blue. Left the black where it should be
Million miles better than my first model my first was back in the 90s
Haha mine too. Early 90s, yellow, disgusting, horribly painted eldar guardians. 🤣🤣
That went from "totally clueless" to "tabletop ready" in a timespan so short that it deserves a "well, that escalated quickly" meme. Great job. And I had a big laugh when she said that Citadel pots are cool. I guess at some point we all thought that for a second.... before we found out how dropper bottles worked.
Well done Ciara ! Keep it going like that and you could be a very amazing painter !
Awesome paint job for your first model
Very nice! Excellent effort and hope we see more!
just came back to watch this again. yep still fun to watch!!!
Ciara you did a good job. keep going.
This was so interesting to watch! A lot of us have been doing this *so long* we take a lot of the barriers to starting completely for granted. It's a great guide as to the kind of questions newer hobbyists ask and what tips are useful?
It also must have taken an insane level of willpower not to backseat hobby here...
That looked great for a first model honestly impressive.
I thought so too. I know she is looking forward to her next one, with some direction and extra steps. :)
Great effort with a citadel paint brush - especially if the beginner ones are still like they used to be! Loads better than my early attempts.
"That's a classy brush water pot"
Oh, its wine!
This will end well.
MORE WINE NEEDED
Well done Ciarra! I hope your interest in the hobby grows.
Fantastic everything
Really enjoyed this! Well done to Ciara for her first model paint. Looking forward to more of this!
Good to hear! I think Ciara did a great job and she is looking forward to coming back for more! 😁
@@BroadswordWargaming i've subscribed so i can keep updated XD
Great first effort! You improve with time and experience and that's when you get more hooked. Since meanie-boy didn't help much (lol) here's a little starter tip- if you hold your brush closer to the bristles, you'll have more control (basically less chopstick and more pen holding). Also by keeping your painting hand (heel) locked into the other hand (heel), you'll find it helps to stabilise you with finer detailing areas. We all had to start somewhere and great tips are to be got on here too. You go girl! Don't worry about box-art, just see what you want to do and do it in your own style...
Better than I did when I first started! Well done!
You should continue this as a series. Just Ciara:s journey on learning how to paint models. Maybe a video showing a beginner learning dry brushing and more on washes and other techniques. Then move onto working on basing. Etc etc. She's clearly enthusiastic about learning a new artsy skill.
Can tell she's Irish with that red! ....and I don't mean her hair lol
Good job though! for anyone attempting to use that beginners brush its awesome
...and her fondness for wine
@@AmateurBarbarian ..... thats the red he meant lol
Really like that Gold... I need a good shiny Gold
I'm new to Warhammer and just got my first starter box (Indomitus), I've been snapping together dozens of minis and having a great time but I'm dreading being done and moving on to being a noob at painting.
This gives me hope, and now I know to bring more wine. Thanks, Ciara!
More wine and you'll be fine. Just enjoy the process, try new things, and have fun! 😀
Love you guys awesome energy very helpful vids
Good job and easy on the eye plus Irish ☘️❤️ good little watch nice one
I encourage drinking & painting. helps keeps the hands still & makes all the models you bought wile drunk a nice surprise when they come. I get why they use the poster boys in the box but I'd say necrons are best for beginners.
Great job way better than my first go! Keep it up
For the first model it looks very good. Some friends of mine can't paint better after 10 or more years in the hobby. Good work! The biggest hurdle are the first few models. But you get the feeling for the colors quite fast.
bloody good
Great work!
Makes me feel a lot better and more enthusiastic about doing my Space Marines now, let alone back to doing all my minis. Would love to see Ciara choose and army and paint them up.
That's great! Just get stuck in and enjoy them. Keep them simple and clean, and you will get them done. Ciara will be back soon with her next video and model! :)
Fantastic job ciara!
You did a good job Ciarra. It really shows you how much you can take for granted as a more experienced painter. A good follow up might be to take one of the painting guides from White Dwarf and see how you feel following that. It seems like there some basic things like clipping, brush care, undercoating and watering paints that should be covered somewhere in a starter set.
That's exactly it, it's surprising how much assumed knowledge it required. We will film a follow up this week, going over the basic tips and techniques, adding a few extra steps in onto a second model. 😁 she is looking forward to it too.
Great job! A little edge highlighting/panel lining, and some additional colors for things like the purity seal, a proper hand grip on a painting handle, and separating things like the head and base from the rest of the model when painting could do wonders for you, but considering how bad those instructions were, you did amazing!
Thanks fr the tutorial, brilliant!
I remember when they gave you little mini pots with paint. I spilled em all lol. I was speed painting because I dropped it on my dads desk. Thank god it was some plastic table top
🤣 well done on the speed painting.. we've all been there! I'm pretty sure my brothers and I destroyed my mother's dining room.. just covered it up and never spoke of it again. 🤣
Broadsword Wargaming yeah now it’s having a roommate that totally wants to strangle me when I need the dinner table. She’s only playing because of the quarantine.
Im going to show this to the mrs and see if she takes the bait :D
Do it! Loads of people have messaged to say how their partners have seen it and gotten involved. Ciara loves it now, so much so that she keeps stealing it paints and models 🤣
I see what you did there with that thumbnail.....
it worked. Great vid!
Haha, we have to try once in a while .. right? 🤣 Cheeky cheeky. Hope the world is alright on your end!
She is really cool, she can stay.
I suppose I'll keep her around for a little while longer then. 🤣
Great work
Was great vid she definitely needs to be on the channel more ..I'm new to the hobby too and yet to paint so was great to watch another new person
Oh awesome! Glad you enjoyed it. 😀 Get stuck in and keep it simple. Follow a guide and you'll pick up more as you go. Ciara will be back for more videos, think she's enjoying the idea of a beginner series, so keep those eyes peeled. 😀
Looks WAY better than my first models. Well done ma'am.
"is this part of the fun?" :D
🤣🤣
This looks a million times better than my first model I painted some 20 years ago.
Great advice for a first model: do not paint anything on the face! Just a basecoat and a wash. No eyes, no lips, no no no ;)
Yeah, haha, eyes. Sometimes, less is more. 😀
Good job! I still remember my first model looking like it fell in the paint pot :)
Yes Ciara this is fun........ and yeah you’re meant to water the paint down. Another thing; the painter’s elixir is Tea ☕️...... not usually red wine 🍷
great work!!
Totally looking forward to the followup.
Great job! 🤠👍
she did amazing!
Really great job on a first mini. I would love more of this. Maybe a few videos with the 2 of you painting side by side (like you mentioned) answer could see the magic of progress and improvement.
Then I think that is what we will do! 😀 She is looking forward to getting some more painting in.
Ciara did a great job, so much better than my first attempt at a mini. Somone else said do a noob to expert series ... create an army play some games ...
Awesome for the first timer :)
Good job for first model 👍
Well done! Inspiring!
Wow much better than my first attempt well done 👍👍👍
That looks awesome, nice work!
She did a great job right!? 😀
That was actually really good! My first looked like it had been dipped in the pot. It was a Genestealer from Space Hulk 2nd edition in the 90's.
the set i got way back when had tiny paint pots
We just want her as part of ur Team. Great job and cool partener ;)
Hi from Spain
Well done!!!
You should be very proud of yourself!!!!
Good job Ciara!
I prefer a bit of Rum myself but "Wine Time" is an amazing way to battle through the process.
I painted my first sets of models and i think I did a decently well done job at making the Necrons look withered, damaged and dirty as well as making them look like metal
Fantastic job Ciara, I laughed! 😂😁
She did alright didn't she! 😊 ..the wine helped! 🤣
For a first attempt, bloody good job Ciara and it's awesome to see more women getting into the hobby. Can't wait to see what's next
Honestly with almost no direction She did excellent also her brush control was great and She wasnt even bracing her hands arms together that I saw.
Really good 👍👍
Good job Ciara
Absolutely fantastic work! Definitely better than my first model - better than most of my models, in fact,, and I've been going for 20yrs :p take into account copious amounts of wine too... ;) great you enjoyed it so and look forward to seeing you complete the squad - maybe a little direction and information beforehand/throughout.
I agree, she did such a good job.. waaaay better than my terrible Eldar Guardian haha.
She's been painting lots at home and is doing so well now, improved loads! If you want to follow her progress, check her instagram @untamed.brush for the latest stuff. 😀
More videos will come.. won't be long until she is better than me! 😅😅
For a first model that is an amazing job.
I totally feel her pain. I started playing 40k in the 90s, and back then all we had was printed guides in paint sets and white dwarf...
Those were the dark days before the coming of Duncan.
I get what you mean, I started in the early 90's too, I didn't even know you were meant to thin paint. My eldar guardian looked awful haha.
She did a good job overall and I'm looking forward to a follow up video with her! 😀
wine and painting..... I like your style Ciara
It's the only way. 🍷🍷
