    Thanks for this video. I just picked up an original Famicom and disk system from an auction in Japan.

    I wish my Famicom was that version with the 7 pin ribbon cable; nope I have issue 1 with 4 pin and heat shield more or less welded (seems that way) to the PCB.

    I recommend adding a expansion port controller as well as a expansion port cord extender. I have a modified Famicom with a SNES power led, front exiting controller cables, av ports (with 15 ft av cables) added to where the original holes for the controller cables in the back, new decals (including decals that mention AV output) and the aforementioned expansion port controller with extender cable.

    great video, though this left me with one big question. I notice that most people with Famicom mod videos go with either composite or RGB. I did a quick search to see if anyone has a video showing the Hi-Def NES HDMI mod on a Famicom but can't find anything. There's one RUclips video of a Famicom with an HDMI connector on the back but I can't find any mod installation information. Do you know if there's some technical limitation? I've been getting back into retro gaming and though I grew up with the NES, would like to mod a Famicom for my collection as long as the HDMI mod can be done to it.

    Well does that work on an AC nes adapter? If you're using a DC power supply than there is no need to have a bridge rectifier on the board.

    I’ve bought some years ago a famicom that I didn’t manage to revive, because I’m a total noob at electronics, and maybe with this it’ll work. Also, av will work fine here in Europe, even if it’s ntsc

    Are you sure it's Phillips and not JIS? Not many people know about JIS.

  • @sawarineko4491
    @sawarineko4491 3 года назад +1

    actually all you need to do to use AC power adapter is add a filter cap after rectifier diodes, 1000uf*25v would be good enough... also it doesn't affect DC input anyhow

    • @LIRetroGaming
      @LIRetroGaming  3 года назад

      Awesome, that is definitely good to know

    • @xenoxaos1

      Yeah... I was noting the discreet full bridge rectifier on the board as well.

    • @sylvaingauthier908
      @sylvaingauthier908 3 года назад

      looking for this. The board would seems to have a bridge rectifier which job is to convert AC to DC. so it would technically work but would get dirty power without some filtering

    Just an FYI, it doesn't matter which way you wire up the power switch. It's a switch, it's just making a connection, that's literally it.

    They should design this board to also replace the barrel style power supply with a standard micro USB input.

    • @LIRetroGaming
      @LIRetroGaming  3 года назад

      The jailbars are very common with the original famicom. The NESRGB mod should address that, but that is a much more complicated mod

    For powering my Japanese consoles in the states I just picked up a step-down converter ( can usually find them for any country, only familiar with US ones though), works great and lets me use the original power adapters, and makes it easier now that certain adapters are getting more expensive, and I've had some that shorted out from being stored by previous owners (don't wrap cords around the power brick, or around anything honestly, stretches the interior wires over time and can cause shorts) and the quality of some third-parties products are somewhat questionable sometimes. Personally I use a model VC-100J from PowerBright for my step-down.

    • @LIRetroGaming
      @LIRetroGaming  3 года назад +1

      Having a step down converter is definitely a good option as well!

    • @AceTrainerX3
      @AceTrainerX3 3 года назад

      I'd say just get a new quality power supply form Triad Magnetics (that fits within you console(s)' specs and be done with it. Those old PSUs won't last for much longer, after all. For systems with built-in PSUs, though, a step down converter is the way to go.
