A retired farmer/mechanic started restoring my ‘53 WD in April of this year; the restoration is about 80 percent complete. The tractor is the only big-ticket item my grandfather ever purchased brand new and it means a lot to me. Watching your videos while my WD is being restored has been very helpful in understanding the restoration process. You are obviously a very skilled individual - mechanic, painter, welder, machinist, and teacher - and very competent. Thank you for sharing your wealth of knowledge.
What a blessing it is to have these videos. I inherited my grandfathers 1957 WD45 wide front and have just started tearing it apart. Yesterday I pulled the motor and it needs to be overhauled (coolant in the oil) and I have no clue how to work on motors. We'll see. I grew up with this tractor working in tobacco and it's a huge part of my DNA. Thanks for the time and devotion.
Thanks for the view and comment. Coolant in the oil is usually from a bad seal on the bottom of the piston liner. If you plan on tackling the engine yourself, stay tuned. I will be getting to mine soon and I will be addressing the common issues.
That spindle barely fit lol. Another inch longer or more of an angle to it and it would not have fit 😬. Thanks buddy! I apprecaite the shout out! I'm going to try and shout you guys out soon! 🙂👍 hopefully I can help more...top secret project?? 😲
There was literally about 1/4" of clearance on that spindle! I was one nervous Nelly. Thankfully the old girl is heavy enough that it didn't vibrate at all. Not sure how long I can keep that next project secret. I really need to get this tractor done. I never thought I was going to wind up with pallets and boxes of parts scattered all over the farm trying to do this restoration!
That lathe is such a cool piece of equipment. I thoroughly enjoyed watching the cutter shave down the diameter of those shafts. You can’t even tell they were scored to begin with. Congratulations on hitting 200 subscribers! It’s an awesome milestone, and it’s only gonna get better from here!👍
Sparks Fire and Baling Wire 🤔 The Allis Chalmers tractor would be a good place to start🤣! Seriously though, perhaps an old tool, or something vintage that someone would like to hang up on the wall of their man cave, and since your one heck of a machinist/welder maybe make something that has your channel initials on it? Hope that sparks inspiration! 👍
YDOC Productions agreed Cody! Jason has a multitude of skill sets I’m very impressed with...electrical, machinist and welding just to name a few...shoot he’d be a top notch maintenance coordinator at my plant probably way high up. He could cobble something impressive together easily that I’d kill to have in my shop!
Snakes, flying cockroaches and lathes...3 things that terrify me Jason...I’ve mistakenly went to the dark side of RUclips and unfortunately came across those accidents you speak of, horrible stuff! You did AWESOME work on these spindles , they came out beautifully and great job on narration and showing the work brother! Unreal how Zane blew up this week, very happy and proud of him. I see your channel is gaining a lot too man, we’re getting there slowly but surely 😂. Appreciate the shout out man and really enjoyed this upload!
Ha! Snakes don't bother me, we don't have any poisonous ones, we don't have roaches either, although I remember those disgusting things from when I was in the army! You just have to have a healthy respect for lathes! That is probably the scariest thing I've ever turned on a lathe, much less trying to video it too! I've been real happy with the way our sub rate has been going up lately, but Zane just blew it out of the water. I'm more than happy to give you guys shoutouts, keep the great content coming. It's one of the few things I look forward to nowadays!
Sparks Fire and Baling Wire no poisonous snakes and no roaches! That’s it I’m moving up there soon lol. I feel the same way about y’all channels man, I hardly watch tv anymore and became a RUclips addict waiting on notifications for you,Cody and Zane 😂. It looked scary turning it but you seemed cool as a cucumber doing it! Thankfully the machine is in good working order and had no wobble, of course that lathe looks like it’s industrial grade! You got some cool toys man...speaking of which.....new project in the back there, can’t wait to see it!
I enjoy the video’s that you are doing . The work looks great and you seem to be very detailed . I have A WD 45 with the single wheel front end . Hoping to do the refurb on it asap . Keep on trucking !!
Hi, I have the same tractor, I painted it and did a little restoration work. I was very interested in your project and I liked it very professionally and successfully.
@@sparksfireandbalingwire8467 I just heard a amish young fellow was working on some kind of lathe, wood or steel? it flew out, hit him & killed him , maybe experience ? Thanks
@@donvoll2580 When I was learning, I was preached at over and over to be careful. No gloves, no long sleeves, no long hair, etc. It's just like a PTO on a tractor, it will reach out and grab you if your not careful.
jason - one of the few, but major additions i want to add to my shop is a lathe . Can you give me any direction what you are working on ? I am just starting to search for this type of machinery, and it's kinda like buying a car . thanks - great channel.

Thanks Cody! The boss keeps telling me I need to do a giveaway like you did, but I can't think of anything good to do. Any Ideas?

Well done. The lathe is a great tool.
Thanks, I love standing in front of a lathe or mill watching metal take shape. It's good therapy for me!

Beautiful job. Nice shop also. Yeah, I was a little nervous with that spindle spinning around but you were keeping track of it.
Those look factory new!
Good day Well I think you have a good channel too. Boy when you had that spindle in there , I thought if put your hand wrong place. Thanks for now
It was a very dangerous operation, had to really pay attention to what I was doing.

Was there any heat treated parts on these old tractors that you have to be careful about doing welding repairs to fix things?
Not on these
Are those spindle shafts hardened? Does getting it hot ruin the temper? Theu turned out great regardless.
No, they aren't hardened. It is important to let cool slowly after welding so they don't get brittle.
