I'll admit it - I completely skipped the DS back when it came out. I was super into PC gaming at that point, and my only exposure to the handheld was from a room mate and a few kids that my mom would watch sometimes. Fast forward to about two months ago, where I go on a bit of a DS-games-I-never-played binge. This was one of the games I picked up, and it's just great! A classic, with an amazing classic Mario soundtrack! Hopefully all the people who requested this song enjoy this, and I have to say...it's great to be back making music!

The year is 2013. You and your best friend are playing Ocarina of Time and Mario 64. He goes onto his iPhone 5 that his parents got him to show you this really cool new youtuber called "Smooth McGroove". You spend the next couple of days downloading a couple of his songs onto your usb mp3 player. Life is easy, life is good.
Warp speed 8 years later and he's still making great content and doing better than ever for himself.

Most of us never actually met this man, yet we feel like meeting an old friend after a long time
Seriously. Smooth has been around since my early days of using RUclips back in late elementary/early middle school. He’s always been around and it’s always been heartening to see updates and new videos from him. And Smooth, if you see this, you’re awesome and I hope you know I’m not the only one who you’ve reserved a place in the heart of. Thanks for doing your thing and I’m glad that you’re feeling better again.
I met him back before he started his channel. I was playing Super Metroid for the first time and he asked me how I was enjoying it 🤯

@@aaronhackett6626 Honestly, not that much at the time. That was in 2008. I loved Fusion, Zero Mission, and the first two Prime games (Echoes is my all time favorite). Super didn't really grab me on the first playthrough. But I beat it again in 2010 and enjoyed it much more. I've beaten it dozens of times since then.

This is bringing me straight back to the 8-hour car trip I first played this game on. Squinting because of the sunshine on my dirty DS screen. Sitting under a pine tree playing the Mario vs Luigi thing with a friend in 3rd grade. I used to wonder why people liked the older Mario games so much. Now I understand.

Listening to this song is like calling an old friend who you haven't talked to in years and hearing the joy in their voice when they realize who you are. Welcome back old boy, you were severely missed.
I'm convinced this is the way the song was meant to sound with being all BAHs
Maybe this is what they thought they were doing in New Super Mario Bros. Wii/U? Unfortunately, it was ear-grating. Smooth, however, has lessened my "BAH" PTSD.
This definitely fixes the sharpness that the Bahs have which leads to it being grating on repetition.
New Super 2 is especially egregious where you don't even get the full BAH and a bit of breath after each one. It's just this premature BA- that cuts off each time.
Fun fact: The enemies reacted each time the song did the BAH part

Whyd the ds have so many games that look modern but are actually from lik 15 or so years ago- and if you dont know what i mean... the games back then just had such a unique, timeless polish, and also who doesnt miss the mario vs luigi mode?
because Nintendo. The 1985 Super Mario Bros. still holds up today, that's just how well and creative Nintendo was and is.
I always thought that as I got older the Mario games I played would start to look old in comparison to new ones, but I'm happy to see people disagree with that idea I had after all this time.
I love the fact that McGroove returned the day after Easter. Plus it's a Mario song, which only makes it more magical.

I don't think people realize how fitting this song is for Smooth's return other than "B A H". New Super Mario Bros came out after a long period of silence from the series as a bit of a reboot of 2D Mario games, and this video is the return to form for Smooth after his hiatus.
