Maybe this is what they thought they were doing in New Super Mario Bros. Wii/U? Unfortunately, it was ear-grating. Smooth, however, has lessened my "BAH" PTSD.
New Super 2 is especially egregious where you don't even get the full BAH and a bit of breath after each one. It's just this premature BA- that cuts off each time.
If, in 2019, someone had told me that I would wake up one day in 2021 and listen to Smooth doing a Mario theme again I would probably have laughed myself in the face and then wept.
