I see this post for Challengers a lot and while it is absolutely true, what makes the movie even better is when you start to dig deeper. For example, Tashi absolutely loves Art. If she only loved Tennis she wouldn't want Patrick to throw the match because that isn't good tennis. That's giving up on the relationship tennis provides as she puts it earlier. Another example is that Art loves Patrick. Patrick is the only one who can challenge Art and get him to actually fight for something. It's how all these characters tie together in this very complex manner that makes this movie such a winner.
I love that we don’t know who won the match. (I believe Art lost that point for touching the net, but it was only the first point of the tie break). It ends right when each character reaches catharsis: Art gets his drive back, and is playing for himself rather than his wife. Patrick gets to hug and play tennis with his boy toy again. Tashi gets to see some good f*cking tennis. I don’t think an ending to a movie has ever gotten me like this one. I literally cackled for 30 seconds straight in the theater. I also believe that what lets Tashi finally feel that thrill again is that control of the game has been taken from her at the end. She’s no longer the thing that Art and Patrick are battling over-they’re just fully invested in beating one another for themselves. Losing that control, and being on the outside of that relationship again is what lets her fully invest in the sportsmanship.
I love how the perspective on who is the "real villain" will vary depending on who you ask, it speaks to just how well written all three of the leads are. They are all really complicated messy individuals, all of them have sympathetic and rather tragic traits, while also capable of being absolute manipulative snakes and generally scummy people. It's fascinating to watch the back and forth between them, seeing what makes each of them tick and seeing which one of them is in control of the situation at any one point. And that's on top of the excellent performances, the dynamic and exhilarating direction, the phenomenal editing, and Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross' God-tier soundtrack, it's just a fantastic film all around.
it is like that churros scene "it is good to see you fired up like that, it is whats missing in your tennis, even if that thing is my girlfriend" thats why he provoked him like that in the last set, they finally got to have that relationship in the court, and tashi finally got to watch some good fucking tennis. for what happened afterwards the director said ALL THREE went back to their hotel room hehe this movie had me obsessed, another good 2024 movie is called society of the snow i hope you watch it! it is a spanish true story survival movie that is amazing :)))
My dream for them all is that Art wins the match, goes on to win the US Open and then retires, THEN he and Tashi both dedicate themselves to coaching Patrick to winning an Open, all while the three of them live happily in their throuple
I looove this movie, it brought back love triangles in a revolutionary way. I think the interpretation that theyre poly is a huge disservice to how complex the story is
patrick loves art. art loves tashi. tashi loves tennis.

Your commentary in the end is probably the best take on the ending that I've seen from every reactor, very spot on!
the director said in an interview that after the match, the three of them went to the hotel... together... in the same room...
😂😂😂 Send me that link of him saying that.
Tashi and Art absoluteley do not need to divorce. Patrick just needs to move in with them!
Exactly they are never leaving eachother they just needed to add Patrick
This one of my favorite reactions to this movie!! So great to see someone who actually WATCHES the movie and picks up on the subtleties 😂😅

Tashi's kid looks to be a little under 8 years old.
[in the voice of Megan]: Interesting.

Team throuple 🙂↔️🙂↕️
It's the only valid option
I feel bad for Art Donaldson and the kid in this movie
Regardless of whether tennis is your racket, this is a movie that is worth checking out.🎾
