Mari, THANK YOU for choosing my request! I'm so pumped to start working on this and I love it in G Key! I absolutely love looking forward to your monthly videos. Please keep up the great work and thanks again for choosing 'Foxhunter's'
Yay, thanks for the request, @Shawn Huckins! :) It's a GREAT tune. Hopefully we'll get to play it together in person somewhere/someday!
I hope you can imagine just how much we all look forward to the first of each month, to enjoy your constant enthusiam, energy, and superb skills in both performing and teaching the tune of the month. Thank you, as always, for this monthly gift. Hoping to connect in person soon. Linda, from Maine
Thanks so much for your sweet note @Linda Bohm! That means a lot to me. The whole reason I started this video series was in the hopes of helping spread some fiddling joy, and I'm so very happy that's been able to happen for you! Keep fiddlin'!! :)
So glad you created tune of the month! I’ve been learnt so many great tunes over the years! Thank you 🙏
Thank YOU for joining in the fun, @Philip Legare Stokes! I'm delighted that the videos are helping you expand your repertoire and that we can share some tunes together via the internet!
Fantastic fiddel player 🙂
Cool tune, great playing
Thanks @Fiddle Express! I've been enjoying your videos too!
Wow.❤
Thanks for the heads-up, this was on my list for a long time and will feature in one of my videos shortly.
BTW I suspect that tiny fiddle on the piano leads a secret life and shifts positions overnight when nobody's looking...
Haha @OctaveObsessions! What a great image! :) That tiny fiddle is my pochette fiddle (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pochette_(musical_instrument)) -- they're such delightfully strange little things, and lots of fun to play. I wish it would do some chores for me instead of just playing around when no one's looking....! Then **I** could have more tune-playing time!
The way I learn is play on piano record it play back with hornpipe lilt at 69 crochet beat so can be 100 per cent on left hand notes then gradually speeding it up memorise it complete to try achieve the fluid flow of the rhythm from the start. As my memory concentration is limited I do it for not too long each day. Hopefully by the end of the week I will reached the right speed . I find A major a better key for string crossing. G major takes more work barring the 3rd on d and a strong. Anyway different approach although I find your tutorial easy to play along with. Adam Beanstock
Awesome @adam beanstock -- go for it! That's a cool tune-learning process you've devised there. So fun how each player develops their own system for learning tunes by ear over time! Sounds like you've got a good one working for you! :)
I came here to ask if you take requests, and now I know the answer! Can you do Tam Lin?
Hi @Oberon4278, thanks for stopping by the channel! Yes, I DO love fulfilling tune requests for this video series. Tam Lin is a super fun tune, and I'll add it to my list! Keep an eye out...! :)
@@mariblackmusic Yay I can't wait!
Mari, do you still post the sheet music for your tune of the month.....I am looking for the Foxhunters
Hi @Steven Raichelson -- I don't actually post sheet music for the Tune of the Month publicly (largely because this video series is all about getting better at learning these awesome tunes by ear!), but I do send it out as a little "bonus feature" for folks subscribed to my email newsletter (www.mariblack.com/newsletter.html). If you weren't subscribed at the time this video came out, you missed my hand-written version, but there are many great resources for finding sheetmusic for fiddle tunes online, including www.TheSession.org, tunearch.org/wiki/TTA (the Traditional Tune Archive), and others. Hope that helps! :)
