  • @senakssssarnab

Pujara has a long way to go...
Comparisions with Rahul Dravid will only increase the pressure on him...
Dravid was a legend, his average during the Ganguly era was mind-boggling! He used to score a hundred every two-three innings and that too in overseas conditions...
Dravid was one of the few players who had a better average overseas than at home!
Also Dravid, Kallis, Waugh were ball magnets, if there were edges they simply cling on to it...
He was an astute captain too, his captaincy period is often lost between Ganguly's brilliance and Dhoni's success, but India's chasing success can be attributed mostly to him, because he elected to chase after winning every toss...
This ultimately made match winners out of Dhoni and Yuvraj!!!
But the thing that set out Dravid truly apart was his selflessness and versitality!
Also Dravid was a very under-rated odi legend with 10K runs and the one with the second highest number of fifties after Sachin Tendulkar!!!
A long way to go for Pujara before comparisions with 'The Wall' can be justified.....

    • @vishvice12
      @vishvice12 5 лет назад +10

You are spot on with Dravid's captaincy. India won a record 16 ODIs I think chasing ultimately falling to Dwyane Bravo in the final over of the match where he bowled a slower one to Yuvi and he was bowled needing 2 runs. The first series under his captaincy was against Sri Lanka which India won 6-1 and most of them were chases I think. India had a solid team on paper heading towards the 2007 WC.
Remember how Vengsarkar blamed Dravid after the loss to Bangladesh stating that dravid insisted he wanted sehwag on the team whereas the selectors didn't. But sehwag performed in the next 2 games but we were out of the tournament anyway. Dravid failed to perform in the next Odi series against Australia and was dropped for 2 years. India went to 2009 champions trophy in SA and wanted Dravid again due to the bouncy tracks. He played well in the tournament but was dropped again after the tournament. Lastly was picked again in 2011 against England after his terrific showing in the test series. Dravid eventually decided to hang his boots from the ODIs. Only wish Dravid was treated properly by the BCCI. Legend of the game and it's still an understatement

People should not get carried away by performance in 1 series. There are several problems in this comparison
    1. Dravid averaged 50+ in an era when we had bowlers like Wasim Waqar Walsh Ambrose Donald Pollock McGrath Gillespie Warne Murali.
    2. The supposed increase in Pujara's away performance in second half of his career is largely due to this series. Remove this series and his average is back in 30s. Dravid was in his 60s
    3. There is significant difference in overall average at this stage 54 (Rahul) vs 50 (Pujara).
Pujara is a good player but I believe he still has to prove himself a lot. He is miles behind Rahul Dravid.

One thing you've to see is the ability and patience. Pujara doesn't throw his wicket easily, can bat for a day. Its not always the numbers you've to see. Why should you remove this series while comparing? Dravid didn't played 60 average in all of his away series. And moreover in this series Smith and Warner are gone, not Stark and Cummins. Its still a great bowling attack if given proper motivation. Pujara is equal to Dravid. Technology advanced and bowlers know what are all your weaknesses are.

Check Rahul Dravid's records in Australia and South Africa and you will realize. He excelled in England and New Zealand where there's not much bounce.

I do understand that shorter format is more suited for current times, however the greats are a product of unrelenting scrutiny of test cricket and not a product of T20.

But Dravid also has well over 10k ODI runs at an average of almost 40 and he played in 3 ODI WC's too. Guess with the current Indian odi line-up, Pujara may not even get the chance to make it to the odi team and he's already 30 plus.

Cyrus Loves India odi in that era was different even 250 was a big scores , now chasing 300 hundred is a joke.Scoring a ccentury with strike rate of 75 would be huge in that times now you do that your team will lose. And this is test comparison.

My favourite test match batsman is Rahul Dravid , but pujara impressed me with his mental and physical fitness to bat that long in this series, if he can do this regular basis on other continents also from now on, very interesting to watch those series. I like pujara's back foot punch.

But I do pity pujara for not getting enough chance for ODI's and t20.
No doubt that he is classic player as Drawid used to be. I wish in test arena pujara too surpasses more than 10000 runs as drawid has surpassed. All the best Pujara! (When I watch u batting on TV, it reminds me about drawid's gritty batting attitude )

*Ind ne 2017 mai SA,Eng mai 1 test match and Australia mai 2 match jita usme Pujara ka 50+ score tha*

When it comes to Tests, it lovely to see the mirror images of Dravid and Pujara. What Pujara lacks is Dravid's adaptability. Dravid, around 96/97/98, was declared not good enough/not suited for ODI's, fast forward 10K runs later and nobody can ever question his credentials in the 50 over format!
Given India's riches in the 50 over and T20 format, Pujara may not get chances in white ball cricket but I will enjoy his test batting for years to come!!

Dravid faced the most balls in test cricket, more than any other batsman in the world. Pujara did a fine job in Aus, but still has long way to go near Dravid considering various other factors. Dravid was the captain who won test series for the first time in ENG, WI. Highest run scorer in 1999 world cup, So many ODI chases during unfavoring batting conditions and lethal bowlers like wasim Akram, waquar younis, akthar, McGrath, Lee, Gilespee, warne and many many others.
