What a tremendous gentleman, a great short interview. I loved WKRP in Cincinnati, that show was really ahead of its time. It really shows how great it was because it has been off the air for over 40 years now, and we are still talking about it.
Haha, I said that on another WKRP video , here on RUclips. The guy was the epitome of late 70's cool/handsome - I bet Gary Sandy had women literally throwing themselves at him during WKRP's height of success. What a great show, great time to be alive.
I always respected Gary as the top billed guy on WKRP. Although he was constantly upstaged by the other characters, he was the glue that balanced all the episodes during the entire run of the series.
I always liked Andy's calm demeanor, people skills and diplomacy. All the other characters had some sort of quirk, varying levels of insecurity, hangup or preoccupation. Probably true of every workplace.
@@msr1116 Ironically Hugh Wilson who created and wrote the show said that Gary had to be slowed down. "Heroes never hurry" was his quote. He had so much energy on the set that I guess thats why Loni Anderson said he was like a nuclear explosion in a small area. I never heard that before, its pretty funny.
Right, the reason WKRP along with Barney Miller and Andy Griffith were successful was that the creators were smart enough to surround the star with funny people, thereby the stars were funnier because they played off their costars so well
Great interview! It's always fun to learn a little something from an insider on one of my favorite shows. The character Andy was like the eye of the storm, with everyone else so extreme and out there, and Mr. Sandy did a really good job of being the "sane guy" in a way which heightened the comedy.
