I've been rediscovering Joy Division this week. I was in junior high school when this was new music. Great to see you guys sharing it with your age group. That sounded old, but you get it. Joy Division and New Order paved the way for the great 1980's love songs and laments. The wall was still up, Cold War was raging, Reagon was President and we were scared. Music like this and John Hughes films got us through it all. Thanks for the song, well done.
Wow, this came out of left field, wasn’t really expecting you to cover Joy Division, but I love it. I’d like to sugest a cover of any Elliot Smith song, I am sure you like his music and I think it suits your style quite well
Agreed… I’d love to hear his take on Elliot Smith! but I cannot stress this enough, it needs to be Josh’s vocals as lead. Sometimes when he duets with others(cough Carson) his beautiful voice is overpowered.
I'm with ya, now if other folks wanna provide accompaniment with harmonies and such I think he could make a beautiful arrangement of a whole host of Elliott's work (Can't Make a Sound, Alphabet Town, Roman Candle, Waltz #1, etc).
Gen xer here. Chilling with my buddy in a Oldsmobile station wagon looking for some random stranger to buy us beer and listening to this on cassette. Thanks for bringing back the memory!
Wow! Wow! Wow! As a big Joy Division fan, I’ve heard this song covered so so often and almost always it is completely butchered and very rarely done justice. You have absolutely nailed this! Coming from Britain, this is one of the greatest songs by a British band and I’m so happy to hear you cover this. Absolutely fantastic, wonderfully subtle vocals, beautiful instrumentation. The use of a twelve string was a stroke of genius and I love the electro feel on the accompaniment, gives it a real modern feel while sticking to the Joy Division/New Order sound.
Wow ! By the second verse, you guys were dialed in without a rhythm section or a synth. I'm impressed that you did that with just 2 instruments. Josh your ability to take on challenges and impress, is an inspiration, and not just in music. Thank you, brother.
This is magical. The tone of Rotem's guitar is very similar to what I'd hear in the early 2000's on australian TV ads. Takes me right back to childhood.
I am a fan of Joy Division, as well as a fan of Rotem and Josh. Quite a surprise to see all three come together in a single video. Like an eclipse. A happy and unexpected treat.
I am so stoked to see you live in Colorado! I showed you to my dad a couple years back and we both love you and the gang, so I got us tickets for his birthday
Wow, not just an interesting, but also very beautiful version! Rotem´s guitar sounds like a myriad of computers, that all make some sort of a beeping noise until it´s sounds like a space symphony. Bowie would have loved it!
Not familiar with the song or with Rotem, but I really enjoyed this. I got a strong Pat Metheny vibe from Rotem on this (playing and facial expressions!), which is about as high a compliment as I can give. Excellent!
Josh. I've been watching your channel & Carson's channel for the last 2 years. Very impressed by your approach to music. It's very refreshing in comparison to all the overproduced music & video crap we've had for the last 20 years. Keep up the fantastic work with all your collaborators. GAZ (Melbourne/Australia)
Great comment. I share your history with both Josh's and Carson's channel. Their view counts have gone sky high since we started watching them, and I'm glad these guys are leading the way back to real music.
I couldn't agree more Gazza, although I reckon Carson's baritone vocals would of been more suited for this Joy Division cover. I hope the biblical floods disappear soon down your way. Stay safe Bro. Sam, Hertfordshire UK
Great job! Not an easy song to cover. This song means a lot to a lot of people, Particularly those of us who were your age when it came out. Nicely adapted.
I'm not familiar with Joy Division, but I like this. The guitar solo lifted my spirit, and the lyric reminded me of my youth, so much longing for love that went unrequited. Too much pain for Ian Curtis. I hope he's fairing well in his new home.
I own a late '70s Aspen 'law-suit' copy of that Martin D18-12. Makes a fantastic sound. Also live about 15 mins away from where Ian Curtis was born and brought up. I was living and working in Macclesfield when he lived there and worked in Manchester when he played and recorded there. In the late '80s and early '90s I met Tony Wilson, then co-owner of Factory Records, a couple of times too. Ian's daughter Natalie went to school with my daughter and they remain friends today, though she's now a well-established professional photographer living in London. So I relate to this song and strongly suspect that Ian would have approved of this version.
How to pull a rabbit out of a hat: cover a song with such a distinctive base line but don't use bass. Incredible! You gents knocked this one out of the park!
When one visually thinks of Ian Curtis and 1970s Manchester, then contrasts that image with Josh Turner and 2020s Brooklyn, then one is in for a surreal moment. Hope this cover makes the set list for the upcoming tour.
oh, oH, OH! Josh, been a fan for quite a while, first I've heard Rotem. Wow, this song just takes me to a place that.... well, that's mine. But, another beautiful arrangement, and while your vocals and guitar playing are impeccable and as captivating as ever Josh, Rotem hits it out of the park, absolutely marvelous. I found myself having to remind myself to breathe during this performance. Fair enough, even if The Shaggs did a rendition, I might be captivated. But seriously, this was a killer, well done! Thank you so much.
Thank you Josh a great and sensitive cover of a song by my favourite band of all time, you both nailed it, maybe you could look at adding you unique spin on some early New Order in the future. Shout out to Rotem, great job buddy.
Did not expect this cover. Excellent. I hate the fact that people that were around in the 80's and early 90's think that Depeche Mode or The Cure wrote every single song in the 80's.
Almost miraculous in any fashion Ian Curtis might have conceived of a legacy. Doubtful at that. I’m 62. Identified with Punk the few years it lasted. JD for me is the quintessential band, sans costumes. This is the most genuine version of the song I’ve ever heard. Thank you.
The guitars on the wall look nice but how do you record and not get the sound of all of them ringing. When I sneeze I can hear my acoustic across the room.

As a 60 year old Brit I love that you covered this. Great job.
Wow, this came out of left field, wasn’t really expecting you to cover Joy Division, but I love it. I’d like to sugest a cover of any Elliot Smith song, I am sure you like his music and I think it suits your style quite well
PLEASE
For me it came out of right field
Agreed… I’d love to hear his take on Elliot Smith! but I cannot stress this enough, it needs to be Josh’s vocals as lead. Sometimes when he duets with others(cough Carson) his beautiful voice is overpowered.

One of the great musical themes to come out of the early 80's. Totally timeless sound.

Never thought my love for Joy Division and your music would come together in one video. Would love to see you do a cover of a song by The Smiths.
A contagious guitar solo Rotem! And what mellifluous voice, Josh!
This is magical. The tone of Rotem's guitar is very similar to what I'd hear in the early 2000's on australian TV ads. Takes me right back to childhood.
The original was recorded in a studio next to my old High school, great to see an American take on a classic
You Sell out yank!!
Sorry, I don't know what that means, because I'm American...
What high school exactly? It was filmed in the old mills in Ancoats Manchester you muppet stop lying
@@travelthebest2676 it was recorded at strawberry studios in stockport. Your thinking of the music video...... Do your own research
This is true, seems we’re both not wrong then. Muppet remark withdrawn
Born and bred in Manchester. Done us proud lads
I am a fan of Joy Division, as well as a fan of Rotem and Josh. Quite a surprise to see all three come together in a single video. Like an eclipse. A happy and unexpected treat.
The tone of that solo guitar is killer! Don't like to compare originals to covers, but I prefer this indie kind of take on this song so much.
Haunting. Can't stop listening to the riff
I am so stoked to see you live in Colorado! I showed you to my dad a couple years back and we both love you and the gang, so I got us tickets for his birthday
Flirting with different scales and ethereal feel. This lifts the song.
Beautiful
I really like the collaborations. Josh's style is always so complementary.
Love this song, love the original, love The Cure’s cover, but this is easily the clearest vocals if ever heard of this song.
Lovely Josh and Rotem - thank you for sharing your talents. A fan from Seattle.
I really like how you keep you natural voice and don't try to imitate the singers voice
12 string makes everything better. Josh, your timing is awesome
That was really amazing! Congrats, guys!
Wow, not just an interesting, but also very beautiful version! Rotem´s guitar sounds like a myriad of computers, that all make some sort of a beeping noise until it´s sounds like a space symphony. Bowie would have loved it!
Lovely rendition. The gentleman playing lead has a wonderful style. Really creative use of jazz technique and phrasing over a song like this.
Not familiar with the song or with Rotem, but I really enjoyed this. I got a strong Pat Metheny vibe from Rotem on this (playing and facial expressions!), which is about as high a compliment as I can give. Excellent!
Rotem is a hero
Rotem’s guitar reminds me of wind chimes, mounted to the front porch of a cottage on a fall day
Sivam, a master. Love It

To see both of you that I follow on RUclips is really great. I love your duo, thanks guys. Merci.
A very hard song to sing, Josh cracks it here. Brilliant. Great guitar too.
Great job! Not an easy song to cover. This song means a lot to a lot of people, Particularly those of us who were your age when it came out. Nicely adapted.
Holy cow your acoustic interpretation is amazing.
Wow. The mixing here is amazing. Not a note lost.
That's a beautiful version of a classic song. Gorgeous guitars. Amazing guys! Much love ♡︎
FANTASTIC PERFORMANCE !!! Greetings from Europe , Estonia.
Hats off to the both of you fine gentlemen.
I'm not familiar with Joy Division, but I like this. The guitar solo lifted my spirit, and the lyric reminded me of my youth, so much longing for love that went unrequited. Too much pain for Ian Curtis. I hope he's fairing well in his new home.
Pre-New Order. It makes me sad to think what Joy Division could have done but the familiar trope of the troubled doomed artist.
brilliant as always
Good show!

One of my all time favourites... bright and breezy version given the dark nature of the lyrics. Good job, giving it your own take.
Now this is a crossover I didn't know I needed it. Keep getting at it boys!
Always a real pleasure
Thanks

Your arrangements are so solid.
Maluco, você é muito bom, parabéns!!!
Bom demais!!
Tasty! Love y'all leaving dynamic space for each other!
the vibes emanating from this cover are immaculate

Cool collaboration.
Josh managed to squeeze an upright piano into that apartment. Nothing can stop this man.
What are you talking about, that is Rotem Sivan apartment not Joshes. :/
Fantastic! Rotem Sivan's guitar playing reminds me of the way Lee Underwood played guitar for Tim Buckley.
Fantastic cover. Was not sure what to expect but I loved it
I’m your first Italian fan. Been following you from the start. Love u ❤️
No, I’m his first Italian fan
Mettetevi in fila!
Ti sbagli sono io! 🇮🇹
Io sono un altro 😁

Très beau solo. Bravo Rotem
Josh, you sure know how to find great collaborators! Outstanding job gentlemen!
So chill, I really enjoyed it
This is my favourite RUclips channel.
Josh what a master at your craft. Sounded awesome!
Amazing! I'd love to see you do more British classics!
Yup, it's not just old Bob Dylan songs you're good at covering. You can PLAY. You and your friends are TALENTED.
Thank you Josh a great and sensitive cover of a song by my favourite band of all time, you both nailed it, maybe you could look at adding you unique spin on some early New Order in the future. Shout out to Rotem, great job buddy.
New Wave on a 12-string, who would have thought it could sound so natural and right. Amazing music as always Josh you still get better every video!!
wow fantastic
Once heard a bluegrass cover of this at a local festival; this one rivals it in surprising appeal.
yes ,,,, you have nailed it again ;;
Nice one guys. Safe travels
Really amazing , I also do music with not this much Subscribers, if you have some free time ,check it out
Did not expect this cover. Excellent. I hate the fact that people that were around in the 80's and early 90's think that Depeche Mode or The Cure wrote every single song in the 80's.
Che chitarra elettrica eccezionale. Mi ha veramente emozionato!

Seems we're flying over landscapes, running after the sleepy red sun...so much beautiful . Thank you guys ! Avignon France
Excellent, as always. Great job guys.
NEW ORDER Please!! Can't wait to see you in Phoenix!
Yes!! Love it!!
It IS a cool playing style. Nice job!
Amazing cover as always!!
Wow. Hauntingly good. Gives me the chills.
Rotem!! I know him because of Paul Davids. Such a kind person and great guitarist :)
Man how did I miss this one 🤔🤔🤔you have elevated Ian’s tune 😎👏👏👏👏so good 👏👏👏chops on the guitar 🎸👏👏👏👏🥂
magical
Wow! This took me back to when I watched the movie "Control", back in the 10's, about Ian's life.
beautiful work, please cover a Townes van zandt tune
Great performance! A new Josh Turner video always brightens my day. Thanks so much!😎
Manchester's own ♥️
Very cool. Rotem's playing and Josh's 12-string strumming and vocal almost give it Bill Frisell meets Pete Townshend vibes.
But The Captain and Tennille said Love will keep us together!
I love this
Great Job!
Marvellous
The guitars on the wall look nice but how do you record and not get the sound of all of them ringing. When I sneeze I can hear my acoustic across the room.
What a great sound! Lots of heart in this
Oh, Man ! I enjoyed every note of this! Fabulous cover guys !
Oh, this took me all the way back to high school; thank you!!
Great cover lads.
Well done. Rotem's playing, tone and tasty licks were delicious. Josh, I like what you did towards the end on the 12.
