Jupiter Inlet Shoaling victim here...Sat 3/9/24. This inlet used to be dredged regularly for the past 4 decades until recently and was always 15-20' deep all the way across, that's why there are no markers til the bend. Local authorities not doing their jobs and getting the dredging bidded and done, so now 50' plus running aground in the middle, south side, north side, anywhere at low tide. North side was always the right way to come in. Got stuck for an hour today, and had to wait for an hour for the tide to come up and spin off. I run a Bertram 54 which stuck front just North of Center about 3 houses east of this. No damage to tackle thank God. #jupiterlocal #dredgejupiterinlet

My family friend that owns Black Pearl Marina said stay South in and out right now. It changes weekly, so best to get updated info from someone in the know until it's dredged.

This is much easier to happen than people understand even as an experienced captain. The inlets and channels are terribly maintained up and down the east coast. It’s super easy to get into trouble when you aren’t in these inlets every day. It’s really negligence on behalf of the government for lack of maintenance and keeping up with temporary markers. You shouldn’t have to study a corps of engineers survey to drive the ICW but you do. You can’t just stay between markers and be okay like most people assume. Hopefully he had a spare set of wheels and didn’t have too much trouble.

I checked the local marinas this morning and did not see the boat in port. Maybe they went back to Coral gables or are behind a large estate waterfront home

    It is an un-navagable inlet.
They are just finishing up dredging now- May 2024.
When my father was a kid, the inlet would completely block. The locals would come together and dig a small trench which would then open it up for a while.

@@edwardranno7119 With a Boat like that I guess the saying is true $ Can't but you Love nor Brains, even though a Dime of Common Sense would get you far away from trouble. Anyhow that's how I see it, Shame Real Shame .!!

The channel markers are posted at the mouth of the inlet and then not again until further in, past the point where this boat ran aground.

I hear the channel is shold up, so stick to north side only.

These little inlets are "dynamic" (NOAA official term). The charted buoys are not necessarily accurate. The last survey of this inlet is over six months old. The bars can move around with just one storm. The USCG and Army Corp try to keep up but funding... Depending on water conditions seeing where to go is tricky. The Chart actually says to seek "local knowledge". Boat US/Sea Tow or a local charter captain are usually your best source. I was once greeted in Ponce by a USCG launch that routed us outside the channel markers. They said the channel had shifted 50 yards since the buoys were laid, only four days before.

I ran the Jupiter Inlet from 1980 until I moved down near the Lake Worth inlet in 2000. Last time I was up there taking the wife and her wine gang on a river cruise the inlet bar looked to be in the worst shape I've seen it.
