Arguably the most uniquely weird, 'left-field-piano-pop' song ever written? I mean listen to those chord changes...minor ninth followed by Dominant flat ninth? Check. Sequence of Dominant chords in 3rd inversion? Check. Moody 'Elton John on Acid' overall vibe? Check. Fatalistic, resolute yet sardonic vocal delivery? Check. Reference to Vietnam War Soldier's catch-phrase in the title? Check....The tune's A section verse almost has a slowed down Stride Piano feel.
I really Enjoyed your review of this album. You're right That this song has Incredible lyrics and probably the best piano solo of any song ever I mean in my opinion.
I've always loved this one, but maybe because I'm slightly partial to Can't buy a thrill, dan is just too damn good. It's that intro part that I could literally just loop for like 10 hours
This by far the most slept on song by the Dan.
One of em for sure!
@@SightAfterDarkI agree, just discovered it last year.
Best lap steel line ever recorded.
love this jam !
This takes me back to high school when I first discovered the Dan. I was blown away when I heard this album. This and Dirty Work are genius!

Agreed! Amazing keys!
Another mad scientist piano solo by Fagan.
It may be about a waiter trying to hold in a bowel movement...
The most likely explanation
